IDK what people are saying. Kanan being blinded and then beating Maul is one of the best scenes in this episode, and it had a lot of good scenes. Kanan is someone who has been metaphorically blind from the jedi way and so for him to be physically blind and then finally be able to see the path of the jedi is really smart. He beats Maul, not because of plot armour, but because he has to. Kanan, much like Qui-Gon, follows the force more than most jedi and for him to use the force to see and then for him to use the force to restore his sight right before his death shows a much deeper side to the force than we previously expected. Kanan is a jedi without the clutter of the Order and so for him and Ezra more niche skills like using the force to see or control animals is expected. Maul didnt expect to lose that fight, because of his arrogance, but what he doesnt realise is Kanan is more than just a Jedi, he is an untraditional fighter and so he beats Maul easily because of this. In a one on one duel Kanan wont win, or at least this version of Kanan (Final episode Kanan would smoke Maul imo), but in an actual fight he takes the win because he uses more than just his saber and the force. People just dont like the fact that Kanan beat the shit out of Maul in like 5 moves
@@mightymiggle eh I think it tracks. Maul basically loses all of his fights cause he’s arrogant. He should’ve been able to beat (CW) Ahsoka and Maul, but he got arrogant. Kanan literally survived a hit to his face from a lightsaber which a sith assasin was using. Plus maul was toying with kanan and kanan didnt even beat him he just pushed him over the edge of the temple
If Maul didnt go somewhat crazy and didn't let his overconfidence and areagonce get the better of him he wouldve been able to get his revenge and done some really good damage to both the empire and rebellion and would've got what he wanted if he played it smart and calmly. But then again if it that were to happen then it would alter the star wars timeline completely.
y’all will stop playing on dawg Kanan man. He defeated the grand inquisitor, a former temple guard. Kanan has a very strong connection to the force and that helped him beat Maul as it did with the grand inquisitor
Grand Inquisitor is nowhere near Maul level. He’s not even close to Asajj Ventress. And are you just gonna ignore Kanan struggled with every inquisitor that came after? Lmao stop being biased and just accept that Kanan is nowhere near Maul level. Didn’t even win in a duel or by using the force. Kanan’s overrated, not that powerful, has a biased fanbase, and is fodder.
@@BlueLight136my point is Kansan is undoubtedly strong with the force. He mastered sight with the force man. Maul’s arrogance got the best of him and he underestimated Kanan
All the people in the comment arguing about how much stronger Maul should be in a physical fight against Kanan have, by and large, missed the entire point. Kanan won that fight because, in at least that moment, he had found his way. Then he loses it again shortly after to doubt, only to find it one final time and become what the Jedi should be by the end. If you're asking "how did Kanan become as powerful as Maul in this moment" you're asking the wrong question. I don't know how people manage to watch Star Wars and all they can take away is who the strongest coolest guy with a lightsaber is.
So well said. Every hater in this comment thread needs to read your comment. He caught Maul in an arrogant moment and tripped him over the ledge. That doesn't mean he "beat" Maul or that he's a "better fighter" than Maul. Kanan losing his eyes is a huge catalyst for him deepening his connection to the force, and it's one of the best parts of the entire show.
Arrogance is what has stopped Maul almost every single time from reaching his long term goals. It's a consistent character flaw. Kannan opened up to the force and let it guide his hand in that moment. Could have it been executed better? Possibly, but it's in line with most story telling fights when it comes to star wars, and this being a show that was originally aired on a network rather then just streaming, couldn't draw out the run time with a prolonged duel with out cutting into Vader vs Ashoka.
Coulda been executed better. Being blinded is a pivotal moment for kanan and if maul trashed him like he should have it would have been more traumatizing and believable, and his doubt as a capable jedi and mentor would take a toll on his relationship with ezra who slowly strays from the light as a result. Kanan learns over the course of the show that being a jedi and letting the force guide him is bigger than himself and he overcomes his fears and his blindness and prevents ezra from being corrupted, and he redeems himself as a fully fledged jedi master. Now that would have been satisfying. Instead he gets crippled, but oh well he beats the guy who maimed him anyway in 5 seconds
I remember watching this scene. As soon as Maul's blade struck Kanans eyes, the entire scene was a blur. I was thinking "Oh god, is he alright?!" then when I see him still moving "Okay, okay...he's just injured." Seeing him beat Maul despite his injury was satisfying.
Maul sure has caused a lot of inconvenience 😂 bringing down Ashoka’s cruiser, blinding kanan, being the reason Kira didn’t go with Han & Chewie, ruling the underbelly of the galaxy.
One thing a lt of people overlook is that in this moment Kannan does the exact same thing he does in his last fight with the grand inquisitor. And that's letting the force take hold of his body and letting it guide him through the fight. He never would've bested Maul in combat but by allowing the force to guide his body he manages to win.
Scenes like this make me miss some of the legends continuity, because anyhow this was old canon Maul would have been ragdolling everybody here, he was second only to Sidious when it came to Sith lightsaber combatants, now they turned him into a joke.
Often Jedi train with the helmets to deflect training bolts Learning to trust in the force and not let their eyes distract them Kanan didn’t need his eyes to defeat Maul, Maul is the superior duelist. But Kanan used Maul’s overconfidence against him. Jedi trusting the force over their eyes makes them more focused
Anyone judging Kanan for defeating Maul ‘blind’ Clearly didn’t pay attention to A New Hope or source material. Why else did Jedi often train with helmets, they had to learn to trust in the force not based on what they see. Which is why Kanan became more focused and used Maul’s arrogance against him Even tho Maul is the superior duelist.
My theory: If Disney use George Lucas story for the sequel which Maul is still alive and became the Godfather, he would successfully activate this battle station and destroy some of his enemies until Kanan turn it off and destroyed it
U know, if ahsoka had just force pushed maul when he kept for kahnan. He would have never lost his eyes😂. She literally sat there and watched. This is why I laugh when people try to over power her. She’s a great character. But not as powerful or smart as maul.
Maul is a really good fighter and he would've beaten Kanan in a normal fight. But Mauls greatest weakness is his arrogance and his underestimation of his opponents. He got defeated in Phantom Menace, Clone Wars and in Rebels by Obi wan (Thrice) and Ahsoka because of this. He was like Kanan is an average jedi and he is blind , what can he do and totally underestimated him then he lost.
Well, in Phantom Menace, the existence of the Sith is kind of the biggest secret in the galaxy... So it would stand to reason Maul was smart enough to just complete his missions and bring as little attention to himself as possible.
In TPM, Maul was no match for a Jedi Master in a straight fight. He just wasn't ready yet. Instead, Maul relied on pure rage and hatred as a shortcut to become more powerful. It worked, but after Naboo, it backfired. Pain, trauma and petty revenge infected his rage, diluting it, and erasing his shortcut. He never overcame that problem, which is why he steadily weakened over time, to the point that he was no match for even an ordinary Jedi Knight.
Even the most powerful can be outsmarted Maul is stronger yes but arrogant as a muthafucka lol Kanan used this to his advantage just like Obi-Wan would have. (Not saying Kanan and Obi-Wan are on the same level btw just pointing how both used Maul's aggression and arrogance)
Maul lost to Obi-Wan near a pit… Maul lost to Ahsoka because he fell from a bar. Maul lost to Kanan because he fell off a cliff. I think having the high ground is actually very bad for Maul.
God this scene is so bad. Like Kanan just had his eyes cut open, and then Ahsoka just leaves Maul with him the second he stands back up. Or the fact that Maul says I’ll make this quick, but then proceeds to slowly sneak around him. He could’ve just jumped and killed him then that would’ve been it. Or how Kanan just immediately knows how to see with the force, and can defeat Maul flawlessly, even though he couldn’t even beat the inquisitors, who Maul destroyed.
Maul is careful because he is very wary of the Jedi. He's been beaten three times before when he's had an overwhelming advantage against a Jedi (Ahsoka wasn't technically a Jedi at the time, but close enough). He respects that Kanan has to be taken seriously, so he attacks carefully, strategically. Then he cocks it up because Kanan flat out beats him through a stronger attunement to the Force. He's a fully realised Jedi Knight, with the Force as his ally. Maul's Force powers, by contrast, are considerably diminished from his prime.
I know there are people that say that this whole thing is plot armor but in my honest opinion it’s not. From the beginning Maul had a problem of underestimating his opponents. Besides in Maul’s first real fight he lost to a padawan Obi Wan. In his final battle in clone wars he lost to a padawan Ashoka. He was beaten by Obi Wan when he had help from Savage… twice. He gets bullied by Palpatine. Finally in his last battle ever it lasts three strikes. Kanan doesn’t really have plot armor here Maul just sucks
Nah it’s plot armor dude. It’s Kanan that S. Your just biased and a one sided Kanan fanboy who can’t accept facts. Maul one taps Kanan. Killed Qui-Gon, gave Obi-Wan big trouble and much more. Kanan just acts like a little girl when facing inquisitors 🤡
@@BlueLight136 bro I don’t even like Kanan. I’m just saying that Maul sucks because he does. He has one good feat and that is killing Qui Gon.
You're clearly a Kanan fan bro chill.
@@mightymiggle eh I think it tracks. Maul basically loses all of his fights cause he’s arrogant. He should’ve been able to beat (CW) Ahsoka and Maul, but he got arrogant. It’s the focal point of his character. It why he lost against old Obi Wan too, because he tried to bash him like he did Qui Gon. Maul is just too arrogant for his own good 🤷
@@SinkCatFr Maul didnt want to kill ahsoka he wanted to recruit her. He literally disarmed her and got a chance kill her but he didnt bcs that wasnt his purpose. The thing about old obi wan fight is true he was arrogant and kenobi knew maul would try that move. But the fight against kanan is nonsense. Kanan literally survived a hit to his face from a lightsaber which a sith assasin was using. Plus maul was toying with kanan and kanan didnt even beat him he just pushed him over the edge of the temple
Wdym Maul slams Kanan no matter what version of Kanan it is

One of the coolest scenes ever.
"I'll make this quick." ...Yes, you did.

@@TheSnowy_OG okay fair but still Maul is stronger
@@BlueLight136i agree with you yeah. Maul is one of my favorite characters of all time in Star Wars
Good thing Kanan got his eyesight back in his last moments. He was a good master to Ezra, and he taught him to be a great Jedi.
I remember watching this scene. As soon as Maul's blade struck Kanans eyes, the entire scene was a blur. I was thinking "Oh god, is he alright?!" then when I see him still moving "Okay, okay...he's just injured."
Seeing him beat Maul despite his injury was satisfying.
Maul sure has caused a lot of inconvenience 😂 bringing down Ashoka’s cruiser, blinding kanan, being the reason Kira didn’t go with Han & Chewie, ruling the underbelly of the galaxy.
The fact that maul doesn't kill them immediately shows how much his skills diminished and going against obi wan was suicide
Subconsciously, Maul knew that Obi-wan could kill him. It's what he really wanted.
disney
Facts, he got outplayed by a jedi knight so when he went up against one of the most powerful jedi ever he got folded in 3 hits
People hating on the fact Kanan took care of Maul so quickly clearly don’t understand that in this moment Kanan had the force itself behind him.
He shoulda went with ahsoka and one shot vader too then
One thing a lt of people overlook is that in this moment Kannan does the exact same thing he does in his last fight with the grand inquisitor. And that's letting the force take hold of his body and letting it guide him through the fight. He never would've bested Maul in combat but by allowing the force to guide his body he manages to win.
Mauls worst enemy will always be plot armor
I'm sorry but when he fell that was so funny 🤣
There he goes again falling from high grounds
Scenes like this make me miss some of the legends continuity, because anyhow this was old canon Maul would have been ragdolling everybody here, he was second only to Sidious when it came to Sith lightsaber combatants, now they turned him into a joke.
at least bro didn't get sliced in half this time
Kanan winning this blind was so dumb
Maul was beaten by his greatest weakness: his hubris
Often Jedi train with the helmets to deflect training bolts
Learning to trust in the force and not let their eyes distract them
Kanan didn’t need his eyes to defeat Maul, Maul is the superior duelist. But Kanan used Maul’s overconfidence against him.
Jedi trusting the force over their eyes makes them more focused
Among the biggest bruh moments in star wars
Anyone judging Kanan for defeating Maul ‘blind’
Clearly didn’t pay attention to A New Hope or source material.
Why else did Jedi often train with helmets, they had to learn to trust in the force not based on what they see.
Which is why Kanan became more focused and used Maul’s arrogance against him
Even tho Maul is the superior duelist.
My theory: If Disney use George Lucas story for the sequel which Maul is still alive and became the Godfather, he would successfully activate this battle station and destroy some of his enemies until Kanan turn it off and destroyed it
As cool as this is always remember. REVERSE GRIP IS THE FASTEST WAY TO DIE IN A REAL SWORD FIGHT!

U know, if ahsoka had just force pushed maul when he kept for kahnan. He would have never lost his eyes😂. She literally sat there and watched. This is why I laugh when people try to over power her. She’s a great character. But not as powerful or smart as maul.
I'm surprised Maul underestimated a blind jedi doesn't he know of the extra senses the force provides ?
Maul is a really good fighter and he would've beaten Kanan in a normal fight. But Mauls greatest weakness is his arrogance and his underestimation of his opponents. He got defeated in Phantom Menace, Clone Wars and in Rebels by Obi wan (Thrice) and Ahsoka because of this. He was like Kanan is an average jedi and he is blind , what can he do and totally underestimated him then he lost.

Did they change his personality or what?
He’s been like this since he came back in TCW, Disney has nothing to do with Maul having more lines
Well, in Phantom Menace, the existence of the Sith is kind of the biggest secret in the galaxy... So it would stand to reason Maul was smart enough to just complete his missions and bring as little attention to himself as possible.
@@jaxx711 I like that explanation.
Losing half your body will do that to you.
Couldn't maul simply push him with the force?
Even the most powerful can be outsmarted Maul is stronger yes but arrogant as a muthafucka lol Kanan used this to his advantage just like Obi-Wan would have. (Not saying Kanan and Obi-Wan are on the same level btw just pointing how both used Maul's aggression and arrogance)

So true
Jedi have blindfold training and hes strong with the force so its not that bad
@@kofalofa6648 that doesn't excuse everything
Maul is careful because he is very wary of the Jedi. He's been beaten three times before when he's had an overwhelming advantage against a Jedi (Ahsoka wasn't technically a Jedi at the time, but close enough). He respects that Kanan has to be taken seriously, so he attacks carefully, strategically.
Then he cocks it up because Kanan flat out beats him through a stronger attunement to the Force. He's a fully realised Jedi Knight, with the Force as his ally. Maul's Force powers, by contrast, are considerably diminished from his prime.
Fr bro. I don’t know what the writers were smoking when they wrote this fight but it must’ve been extremely addicting.
Force push kanan or even both by maul
