I love how when the trailers first came out and we heard Ezra say the key to destroying the Sith, we thought it was gonna be some weapon or knowledge yet the answer had been right in front of our eyes and already played out all along - the key to destroying the Sith is a boy growing up under the twin suns - we all knew this, we just kinda forgot

I think he might have looked for the choosen one. He already knew about its existance while talking with Obi. Also the thought of the chosen one "avenging them" was what finally brought Maul peace.

Well its not that per say. It's just the knowledge that the two things they wanted to see: Hope/Destroy the Sith which is luke while Maul saw Obi Wan
No Anakin destroys the Sith Luke just gets Anakin back on track for his role of The Chosen One.
I like how Maul took notes from Palpatine and puts up a very affable personality to manipulate Ezra to the Dark Side.

Looking back, I wonder if Maul intended to do something similar to this with Ahsoka. He claimed that they could defeat Sidious together, but surely he wasn't referring to a head-to-head duel. Maybe he planned to combine holocrons with Ahsoka to gain insight on defeating Sidious a different way.
@JeremyCuddles it's actually confirmed by Lucasfilm that Palpatine actually was defeated by Mace in episode 3. Mace Windu has a technique when fighting a Sith that basically takes the power of the dark side (I'm not sure if it's actually their power or something else) and uses it against them. When fighting a Sith, Mace Windu is basically unstoppable. When Palpatine lost his saber and was cornered, he used the situation to his advantage to convince Anakin. All of this was confirmed by Lucasfilm

The force is only the force. The separation of light and dark was there before jedi and sith, but beings like bendu prove there was just only the force before.
They did, you should look into the first Jedi Civil War in Legends, the Jedi for the most part had no fear of the Dark Side, but over time decided it wasn't worth it, a lot of apprentices and even some masters kept practicing it in the dark and the Jedi decided they would be expelled
Because at that point they became enemies to kill on sight and the Dark Jedi were vastly outnumbered, they fled the system to Korriban and moved in with the true blood Sith (species), over time the two cultures became one, with the Dark Jedi taking up the name Sith
I'm not sure how much of it is in the Disney Timeline, but in Legends the Jedi and Sith used to be one order and studied both sides of the Force. However, a group led by Ajunta Pall started using the Dark Side to perform alchemical experiments, creating/mutating life forms and even considering immortality. The rest of the Jedi saw it as blasphemous and a civil war called the Hundred Years Darkness ensued. The Dark Jedi were defeated and the survivors exiled in the hopes they would learn their lesson. This backfired spectacularly as they encountered a species called the Sith who were also force sensitive and took the exiles in. Ajunta Pall and his followers took over the Sith civilization, renaming themselves as the Dark Lords of the Sith and eventually built up quite a few empires that would challenge the Jedi...

BEAUTIFUL reference to Luke's role in the Original Trilogy! And unless anyone has forgotten, Rebels takes place BETWEEN the Prequels and the Originals. That's about TWENTY YEARS APART if we're going by the in-continuity timeline. Luke is still a little kid at this point, if even that, so he's not going to join up with the as-of-yet unformed Alliance to Restore the Republic for MAYBE another ten to fifteen years.
Such BEAUTIFUL foreshadowing for the kiddies out there that have yet to watch the Originals.

Well, TECHNICALLY he's not secluded from the war. At the beginning of A New Hope, he talks to his uncle about going into the Imperial Academy to train as a pilot like all his friends did. The Empire IS influencing Tatooine, just not in the sense of it being a warzone or proper military base. At least, not until Obi-Wan pops his head up and gets Han to shoot up the spaceport.

I like how this was technically a victory for Maul, as he wanted nothing more than to find Obi; the holocrons and Ezra as an apprentice were sort of just an optional side gig for him.
Revenge on obi wan is just one thing he wants. He wants ezra to basically replace savage for him. In the dathomir episode he tells Ezra "We can walk away from this together as friends... as brothers".

I know Maul is evil but you can tell how miserable he truly is. The Dark Side ruined his life, it destroyed him. Yet he still embraces it. Because it’s all he ever knew.
He wanted an apprentice so he could feel like a true Sith again. But it’s as if the Dark Side itself denied him. Had he left the darkness, abandoned his ambitions, let go of his vendetta, he could have walked a new path. Not necessarily live as a Jedi or Light Sider, just LIVE.
Ironically he could have taken up farming, or become a personal trainer, or taken up security work - all as a Grey Jedi

The brilliant thing about this scene is that Kanan was only able to see Ezra because of his blindness. I love how while the others are blocking the light from their eyes, Kanan takes off his visor and calmly walks right into it. Him being blind is the only reason he was able to do this.

At this moment, maul saw Obi Wan dropping off Luke Skywalker (probably didn’t know he was dropping off a baby) and Ezra saw the twin suns setting. Maul wanted to see Hope, Ezra wanted to see how the sith will be destroyed, which both are the answer. Luke Skywalker.
It’s quite interesting. Knowing the story of Ezra Bridger, you want him to succeed in destroying the Sith, but you know he’s not going to. He may be the main player in Rebels, he’s not the main player in Star Wars. Luke is. It’s the same deal with Cal Kestus in Jedi: Fallen Order. He wants to help Cere rebuild the Jedi Order, but it’s not his destiny. It’s Luke’s.

Mauls hope was obi-wan to be alive. They both got what they wanted in the end.
Maul’s need for revenge is insane looking back at this, he crawled his way out of a pit he should’ve died, after being restored he got his brother to help him find obi-wan or at least bait him to come, he took over an inter planet just for Obi-wan and killing his girlfriend in the process, he completely avoided a masses war in what ever way just to stay hidden, years later after the rise of the empire he STILL kept on going even going as far as using the help from a Jedi so he could reach his long awaited goal.
And in the end of it all, in a desert being exhausted and burnt with only revenge on his mind found Obi-wan.
From there the battle was decided and maul died.

It occured to me straight away that he is on about Obi Wan! There has been rumours of Obi Wan appearing on Tatooine with Maul. I so hope it happens soon, and Ewan McGregor has returned to voice him. Filoni has said he wants Ewan on Rebels, but I'd be happy with James Arnold Taylor still.
Hopefully we get to see a side story of maul trying to hunt obi wan so we can see a final battle between the two

I love how with Clone Wars and now Rebels Maul has been established as a fully fledged character instead of the mostly silent assassin he was portrayed as in Phantom Menace.

Knowledge can be difficult to turn away no matter how important it is worth knowing it would change everything.
I think Maul is a little upset that Obi-Wan survived, since right as he is taking off (3:10) his laughing sounds like a mixture of laughter and crying. Sort of like he is trying to hide his emotions that make look vulnerable. Now I know he is alone, but he spent so long being trained to show no weakness, which would be emotions like sadness, that it might just be force of habit to hide them.
I just think that Maul had finally came to peace and accepted that Obi-wan died either when order 66 was given, the Jedi temple was assaulted, or during the Jedi purge, and that finding out that he was alive opened up old wounds he thought had healed, which ruined the putting to rest of his want for revenge against Obi-wan.
Now I know that many people think that the "hope" he was looking for was that Obi-wan had survived so he could kill him, but I think he was looking for the hope of making himself untouchable by the empire by having the child of the chosen one, Luke, as an apprentice, one who could rival Vader as Luke would inherit his father's strong connection to the force (hopefully) which we know to be true)).
I think that Maul was just so tired of having to be on the run all the time and always looking over his shoulder, that he wanted to find strong force users (like Ezra and then Luke) to help him become strong enough so that if the empire attacked him, he and his apprentices would be able to repel them with ease, making attacking them so terrifying for the storm troopers that none would voluntarily go and that they would retreat after the first couple casualties. Effectively making attacking Maul more costly than it was beneficial, and seeing how Maul doesn't seem to want to draw attention to himself (based on how long he was hiding after escaping from Dooku and Greivious), he wouldn't go and attack imperial bases, as that would give the empire a reason to constantly attack him with everything they could throw at them.
Just my take on it, have a feeling that the last part isn't true, but I really think that the first 2 paragraphs might be true. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I have been saying this over a year. It would be cool if Mauls final resting place is in an epic battle with Obi Wan on Tatooine. Layed to rest right by Obi Wans little hutt. So he can make sure he is truley dead and it would also allow you to watch EP IV knowing that D Maul was right there all the while.

Love the foreshadowing Maul made by referencing the name of the first movie. That name and Maul are both from the beginnings, and it’s those beginnings that led us to what he was seeking before the show answered that question.

We know Sabine Wren's mother was Death Watch, and she was raised into Death Watch. We also know (from directors notes) that her mother was present at Maul's defeat and murder of Pre Vizla.
However. We ALSO know, that Bo-Katan Kryze, Satine's SISTER, is going to be in Season 3.
I am making the following prediction. Bo-Katan Kryze, is Sabine's Mother.
She is Mando. She has a Helmet like Sabine. She's Death Watch. And She was present when Maul killed Pre Vizla.
Thats what she thinks, at any rate, and the breakdown of this relationship is why Sabine cut ties with Death Watch.
However, I am going to suggest that Bo-Katan Kryze is NOT Sabine's mother, although Bo-Katan did raise her to believe this.
I am going to suggest that Bo-Katan will reveal (either to Sabine, or to others), that Sabine is in fact, Satine Kryze's daughter.
And thus, her Father is none other than Kenobi.
But it gets better. Why is this relevant?
Why because, it also gives us a way out. The most common theory for the absence of Ezra in the original trilogy (like Ashoka, his fate is a ticking time bomb), is that he is gradually filling the role of Starkiller. He'll form the rebellion, and die in the attempt. An alternative theory though, is that he is Starkiller in REVERSE. He starts out as good, with Kota as his Master, and gradually becomes Starkiller, falling to the darkside.
Ezra falls to the Darkside. And he forms the Knights of Ren.
Or rather.
The Knights of Wren.
Sabine escapes (or falls), but during the course of the Original Trilogy, she gives birth to a daughter.
Rey.
Rey Bridger. Or Alternatively, Rey Kenobi.
The Daughter of the new Cannon's Starkiller. And the Granddaughter of Kenobi.
Just in time, for Episode VIII to air, between Season 3 and Season 4.
It ties up Rebels, and the Movies quite nicely don't you think, as well as looping in to include Ezra as Starkiller?

Assume they don't conceive till they are 25? that puts Rey at age 20 during TFA. seems plausible to me.
Haradion Drogon nope again. Ezra is now 17 or 18. Documented in the show based on his age in Season 1. He'll be 20 when Ep IV happens. But he's not in that. Or Ep5 or 6. You really need to look up the facts before you throw around numbers that are documented to be incorrect. Furthermore interviews with Filoni he states that when Yoda say to Luke that he is the last of the Jedi he means there are no other living Jedi including Kanan and Ezra. So again your theory does not hold water. Besides Rey would have to be born 10 years after the Battle of Jaku, making Ezra roughly 32-35 years old. So as I said try again. You math does not work.
