  • Jinjer is at it again, this time with my new favorite track of theirs. This new single, taken from their upcoming album Wallflowers, brought me so much joy and eye candy, along with killer vocals. What is happening to me? I listen to opera!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Jinjer performing "Vortex” from their new album Wallflowers.

I really like this Jinjer song. One of their best for sure. It is sophisticated, intricate, groovy, progressive but cohesive at the same time. Production is nuts. Every member is nuts. Tatiana shows a very wide vocal range that is out of this world. But overall what fascinates me is the whole band is so sofisticated and unique that many people don't realise how much Jinjer are ahead of their time. I've been listening metal for the last 30ish years and it is my opinion.

Big yes in regards to the production of her vocals, especially the harmonies on her clean parts are so much more there in terms of both, quality and quantity. If you want to hear why this is going to be their most aggressive album, then I would suggest the second song they just released of it, Mediator. There's some very interesting vocal placement in the first part too, which I think you'll like. The drummer is Vlad, he's with them since 2016 (Pisces re-recording) and actually the one who wrote most of this album.

It makes sense for you to think that low harsh vocals sound like a controlled burp. It seems to me that, in both cases, the sounds are produced in much the same way. A flow of gas causes some anatomical structure in (or near?) the vocal tract to vibrate. Of course, in both cases the sound exits through the same resonance chamber. I wonder if, by changing your mouth shape, you could get your burps to sound like mids or highs?

If this is your current favorite, just wait until you review the latest - Mediator. ;)
Vortex didn't shock me but I enjoyed it lots. Mediator, next level harmonically and rhythmically and blew my mind. The phrase that always pops into my mind when I listen to it and think about it is Vaudeville. The thrashy opening you can think of it being used in an old black and white movie when someone is being chased and the styling of Tatiana's outfits, performance and vocal arrangements when the first verse starts are so 1920's from the elegant dress to the burlesque basque like outfit. The décor of the room, especially the old radio, fit the vibe.
The song starts out vocally of one of hope and ideals and the lyrics are just beautiful - and do need to be read as they elevate the song so much but the second half is dark and heavy.
This is a reaction video that I'm really looking forward too.

Hey Elizabeth, great reaction! Just FYI that is still Vlad handling the drumming duties. He’s been with the band since 2016 I believe, and most of the Jinjer reactions you have done have featured Vlad on the drums.
So, same guy. I think there is just more space in this groove, allowing him to show a lot of additional elements in his playing

I’ve been binging your videos the past day or so, and I LOVE them so far!
I know I would love to see you react to Howard Jones’ voice from Killswitch Engage. Specifically from Rose of Sharyn or End of Heartache (especially live).
Or Anthony Green! Dudes voice is so unique and awesome. Check out the song “Get Out” by his band Circa Survive to get some of that mad range.
Also Chester Bennington from Linkin Park. His vocals were absolutely iconic. One of my favorite songs that show his range and ability is “The Little Things Give You Away”.
Or Periphery with their song “reptile”
Or My Chemical Romance’s “Welcome To The Black Parade”
Man I could go on and on, but whatever you end up doing I’m gonna be watching anyways. 💯🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

Their drummer is so good!! Everything he does is a complete mind bender. The grooves, the originality, the heavyness. The time signature changes every couple of bars sometimes. It's so perfectly subtle you berely notice it, that's so hard to achieve and sound good! Genuinely my new favourite drummer🤘
