“Drums in conversation with the vocals”….Dr Elizabeth 😊….you are outdoing yourself with these reacts…Tatiana and Jinjer are a treasure to modern metal….
Its a "ghost snare" or "shadow snare" its a drumming technique performed by highly skilled and very experienced drummers who are very classically trained, oddly most often found in metal drumming.
Ghost notes are a staple of Jazz music. It is really not that common in metal, so no, it isnt "most often found in metal drumming". The few metal drummers who use then usually have a background on Jazz. Vladislav is a particularly exceptional drummer. Most drummers who use ghost notes are not "endurance/explosion" type drummers that can spam the double bass for several minutes without break or do blast beats. Vlasdislav combines the subtlety of a Jazz drummer, with the explosiveness and endurance of a metal drummer.
Each and every time Tati goes from clean to growl Elizabeth does that thing where she giggles and it looks like she's trying to find somewhere to hide. It feels my heart with pure joy, each and every time.
I'd also like to put more trust in more formal education but let's face facts Elizabeth is one of a kind not many classically trained people are this open minded and have true raw appreciation for music
It's not old, give it time, she actually gets interviews with big stars just because she knows her shit. I'm looking forward with her tea-talk with Maynard James Keenan
Same reason Jinjer isnt bigger than Cardi B... there are more people with bad taste than good. Also, lots of people don't want to use their brains anymore than the minimum to survive and this channel actually focuses on education and details over just clickbait generic "reactions".
Not condemning anything, but I think it's because she makes a half hour long video on a song that's only 3-4 minutes. Instead of just reacting she does a breakdown analysis and most people that watch reacting to music videos won't watch or like something at or over the 10 minute mark.
@@Murphenom I love the insight she brings. It takes awhile to convey her knowledge sure, but I'm definitely here for it. She points out things I don't notice on songs I've loved for decades. She is fantastic to say the least.
“This is what I feel goblins would sound like, if they were having a party or rapping.” I honestly think Tatiana would take that as a sincere compliment.
Yeah, I 've been listening to Jinjer for years now and I thought multiple times they had reached their peak but they somehow manage to constantly one up. Vortex blew me away when I first listened to it.
The extra thing you hear in the blast beat. Is the snare technique used by drummers where they push stick into the rim of the drum as they strike the skin. This ads an extra bounce or 2 to a single strike. This is a commonly used technique first discovered in the army and perfected by the Pete the drummer of MORBID ANGEL. Hes is also the founder of the blast beats and the first record setter in speed at tempo of 990 bpm. As for your assumptions on her vocal affects and dubbed over lines. You're spot on. The sound you heard at the end was a bass technique. If you ever need a drum and studio production consultant. Mr. METALOKE is here to help and learn with you all
Tatiana flips between growl and head voice effortlessly. Of course, this version of Teacher Teacher is studio produced but you can hear her do it live in the Perennial live concert video from Wacken 2019.
@@Quizzy0000 Yes I've noticed that growl singers are usually very kind and gracious - totally opposite to what we'd expect them to be. Maybe it's because they don't always associate with the typical bad-boy rock-'n'-roll culture. But that's just my own personal experience and view.
I don't think I have ever heard Tati in a true head voice. Chest voice, yes. Chest voice with lots of breathiness, yes. But head voice, true head voice? Nope. there's an unmistakeable...nasal/feathery tone to head voice that just is not present at all in Tatis singing.
Having had access to their multi tracks and watching Max mix them, I can tell you those those "gangs" are all just her doing a bunch of extra voices and layering them under her leads. And yeah, all the doubles you're hearing are her tracking those doubles and matching them up. Well tracked doubles sound way bigger than doubler effects, even thought they're getting really good now. They don't work that great on growls. You do good work, madame. Been watching for a while and it's fun to see you check out friends of mine and stuff! Started watching you on Pisces, actually! also, that note at the end you're hearing is the Bass
"If Tatiana were to yell at me in this tone...I would sit down." Yes. Everyone would. Right after our soul left our body. The rattle in the blastbeat is the push pull technique used to alternate the bell and shoulder hits on the ride cymbal.
Watched your review online stop smokin weed you laughed the whole time. Jinjir owns. Get your shit together before you come down one someone else. Hater
As someone who listens mainly to Handel and Vivaldi, I love the melody and rhythm of Jinjer. I'm in love with this unique, talented, wonderful band !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Her growling voice almost has a hint of polyphonic overtone singing ( Double tracking ??) . Haven't heard such a band that I want to/ need to listen in this spectrum of music since The Prodigy. RIP Keith
I think you would like the song Perennial live at Wacken them because Tatiana holds a note for at least 10 seconds and I believe you'll really appreciate it 😊
I just discovered your channel, and I gotta say, this has been a great experience. You're exposing me to music I may have never gotten a chance to ever listen to in my life just because I didn't know about it, and I very much appreciate that. Also, it is so fun to watch you listen and analyze these songs. Your excitement and passion is infectious.
So the same, great huh! Her reactions are priceless, not only genuine but backed up with fantastic perspective grounded by a love of voice (all of them it seems). I've just absorbed about 12 videos o.O
That sound you noticed at the end is often referred to as a “deng”. It was produced by Eugene, the bass player. A deng can be composed either of a single or multiple simultaneous notes, initiated by plucking the string and allowing the strings to rattle against the frets, producing harmonics. The most famous example was in the song “Dig” by Mudvayne. It became a meme: “Brr Brr DENG”, as referenced by Eugene in this clip: th-cam.com/video/FjfBF57h2Eo/w-d-xo.htmlm52s
If you watch the final few seconds, as they conclude with a shot of each musician at 23:40-23:42 you can see the stroke from Eugene which makes that "deng" sound on the bass.
Seriously, Watching Eli reacting is always so wholesome and makes me smile. She's such a lovely and non-judgemental person. I could watch her react to jinjer the whole day LOL
I reckon you're the best reactor on the Internet. Your musical knowledge, mechanics wise, is unparalleled. Your enthusiasm and joy is the best. And, like you, I'd love to put Tatiana in a fMRI machine. Love the t-shirt too.
Another vote for "Perennial" (Live at Wacken 2019). No studio production with that one. Pure, raw vocals and at the end of the concert I might add. You're the best, Elizabeth!!
Hi Elizabeth, this is my 1st time listening to this song, and my 3rd time watching a Jinjer performance/video. Tatiana is extremely talented and a vocal powerhouse. I love the sudden switches in singing styles (who else could sing like an angel, scream like a banshee, and growl like a devil), and the talent of the band was impressive. Thank you, Elizabeth!!! 💙
who else.? - Courtney LaPlante (Spiritbox) can.!! Eva Spence (Rolo Tomassi) also can, Kristin Hayter (Lingua Ignota) can, Caro Tanghe (Oathbreaker) can... a lot of female vocalists can, and many of them are even better than tati. Courtney LaPlante is the epitome of modern female singing/screaming. tati is really good in what she's doing, but she's just hyped to the max...and that's quite annoying. been a jinjer fan from day one but during the last 10-12 months i've lost my love and interest over this exaggerated hype.
She also writes amazing lyrics. Pisces, Perennial, Retrospection are all songs worth following along with lyrics, as it is clear they mean a lot to Tatiana, and are too easily overlooked.
@@godscoldhands77 Matter of personal preferences, of course. I've listened to all of them and Tatiana is really the best by my opinion... Eva and Courtney are also impressive, but the quantity of "hits" is rather less... Just my personal view...
@@godscoldhands77 I feel the same about Spiritbox. I’m in the minority but just don’t get the hype. They’re very talented but they’re not my cup of tea. I much prefer Jinjer, although they’re sometimes treated like a circus act by TH-cam after Picies.
Ok internet, so from a young age I was listening to korn/slipknot/ratm/pantera etc on cassette tapes, how the fuck am I only now hearing Jinjer for the first time? Literally grinning so hard right now, because I have a world of Jinjer I get to discover for the first time.
I don’t know how I came across these reaction videos but yours are by far the best, I love how every part of your face becomes so animated while you’re picking out the pieces to talk about. Love your energy and enthusiasm for this. Looking forward to more videos. Please can we have some more UK bands?
That chorus of goblin growls you hear on the “we need no soap shoved down our throats” line is what we call Gang Vocals. Has its origins rooted in punk and hardcore music and it essentially is just a chorus of people yelling for a phrase or two. It adds a ton of awesome flavor to give certain lines a lot of emphasis and body :)
@@Shadow0fd3ath24 Sounds like both to me. Gang vocals in the back and a couple layers of screams with contrasting tonal emphases that sort of fill in each others' gaps. The way the screams are layered reminds me of something Trevor Strnad of The Black Dahlia Murder does a lot, sounds really brutal.
I'm an old retired recording engineer and studio musician, and I have two observations. First you are just so damn cute. Second, you're skills are just so damn evident.
Thanks so much for emphasizing the difference between talent and hard work and dedication to a craft. I often feel like people tend to call someone talented and therefore undermine their hours and hours of learning, working, failing and trying again. They're talented just doesn't cut it
I have a hard time getting into purely screaming singers, especially if I cant make out what they're saying, but this is absolutely brilliant! I feel like her growling is purposeful and I can totally make out what she's enunciating! I love the way Pantera goes between the most beautiful clean singing and the super harsh vocals; so I'm LOVING this!! ❤️ ❤
Thank you for your reactions to Jinjer, seriously. Love that you talk about the insane timing signatures, that's a big part of what draws me to this genre of music, and it makes me happy to see someone else nerd out about it lol. I also vote you need to do Vortex (or at least do yourself a favor and listen to it, it's just so good) it's the foreshadowing of their new album coming out next month!!!!!
Elizabeth is the most fun to watch during her reactions. Her face, eyes and body expressions tells it all. It doesn't hurt that she is so darn cute doing it. And we learn from her expertise, thank you teacher.
Powerwolf would be a pretty good choice. It might be interesting to have a double-reaction, using both versions of their song "Demons Are A Girl's Best Friend."
I've been pushing for some Powerwolf for a while now. I was recommending "Christ And Combat" or "Army Of The Night". "Venom Of Venus" or "Nochnoi Dozor" might be interesting as well.
They have an entire live concert on their channel and she sings just as strong on the last song of the set as she does on the first song. She’s amazing!
I remember leaving a comment on FB when I first seen a video of theirs, from live performance.....I mentioned ability because I was amazed how she pulled everything off with such clarity..... For me, Tatiana is easily the best female extreme metal vocalist there is right now.... The power and versatility in her voice is amazing..... As for male, the equal counterpart, for me, would be Phil Bozeman.
This song is like a mini rock opera. Time signature changes, vocals matched by percussion, then bass, then guitar, back and forth from "regular" vocals to her patented growl, then back again. It rolls up all sorts of musical things. Just a pure joy to listen to. Shows how advanced all of the band is.
I would LOVE to hear you react to Otep, specifically Ghost Flowers or Confrontation. She's one of, if not the single greatest female metal vocalist of all time, and extremely underrated. And Evil J is a wizard with the bass guitar.
"So, this is.... I don't know if this is... what goblins would sound like, if they where having a party, and rapping"... Noo, no, this is not what that sounds like. To hear that you have to give Nekrogoblikon a listen Mrs Zharoff. Nekrogoblikon - Powercore or We Need A Gimmick are good places to start.
@@nicholasbrassard3512 I was about to give you a thumbs up there for a second but I just realized I can't since you haven't heard Nekrogoblikon in a while! Do it! Do it now! OK, I'll like it anyways.
Haven't found if anyone has already pointed that out in the comments. The time signature you hear in this lyrical part in the end is a 2/3 polyrhythm. Which is essentially a 6/8, but accents are placed in a way that you get 2/4 and 3/4 happening at the same time. It has this amazing grooving momentum that carries you away. And it allows you to seamlessly switch between 3/4 and 4/4 or make neat rhythmical modulations. I should say that this polyrhythm is very common in prog metal/rock. I'd call it a basic building block for a lot of the songs. But there are more pieces that use it. For instance, Game of Thrones main theme and Carol of the Bells.
Yeah you know you are at the top of the reaction game when you get this much interest hours before a reaction. And of course it's Jinjer literally the band that started almost all reaction channels.
The extra sound in the blast beat is that Vlad is using the bell on the ride to give the bright pop to the tone. The part at the end that jumps out is Eugene, the bassist, he is totally the heart of Jinjer, he is incredibly talented and pulls so much melody out of his lines and drives the tracks forward. It's so much fun watching your reactions to these tracks, you really enjoy music and it shows!
The thing I love the most about metal is the range (and intensity) of emotions the music can bring with it. There's something about those low, dark growls that has always just spoken to me more than clean vocals ever could.
Hi jamartrivera, Elizabeth said she's waiting for the interview w/ Tatiana and, "Vortex," is on her list and will release both videos at the same time.
King Diamond - Sleepless Nights Live at the Fillmore 2015 & Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor. I feel you will love both of them for different reasons. KD is very theatrical and sings in Falsetto and Nevermore is criminally underrated plus the song is like 8 minutes long with an amazing amount of complexity 😊

if you are curious how low Tatjana really can go, "Home Back" is probably a good Song to find that out. Very intense Song about the War in the Ukraine.
They do Homeback live next to last song at Hellfest live followed by Vortex.actually 3rd from last Prophecy is next to last
She belts out a growl in Vortex that puts some death metal singers to shame.
In “Who is gonna be the one” she also gets very low but not as long as in “Home Back”.

Yes please this!
I think "Home Back" should come first!
She might also be thinking about sort of an "off time" blast beat that is played there. Well not really an off time but you know what i mean.
@@juyifan7933 They're definitely common in certain types of metal, but yes, their origin definitely lies within jazz music
that's not really odd at all imo, as elizabeth has said/hinted at as well, imo, metal is probably the closest active genre these days to classical

My recommendation would be "Jinjer - Perennial live at Wacken"
Exactly! The best performance!!!!
Yes
I second this!
I 3rd this 😬
I mean the Melbourne performance from this year was Bob on too
Brand new Jinjer “Vortex” has a lot to dissect, would be cool to see your vocal breakdown of that one !
Hi Monique M., Elizabeth said she's waiting for the interview w/ Tatiana and, "Vortex," is on her list and will release both videos at the same time.
Each and every time Tati goes from clean to growl Elizabeth does that thing where she giggles and it looks like she's trying to find somewhere to hide.
It feels my heart with pure joy, each and every time.
It is mind-boggling how fast Elizabeth has caught up with nuances of metal. The fact has restored a lot of my trust to formal education.
I'd also like to put more trust in more formal education but let's face facts Elizabeth is one of a kind not many classically trained people are this open minded and have true raw appreciation for music
I just can't see why this channel isnt bigger? How could anyone not like the variety in this channel? Love this reactor
It's not old, give it time, she actually gets interviews with big stars just because she knows her shit.
I'm looking forward with her tea-talk with Maynard James Keenan
500k subs isn't bad. But yes a mill would be cool
Elizabeth reacting to Jinjer is always a great joy to watch.
“This is what I feel goblins would sound like, if they were having a party or rapping.”
I honestly think Tatiana would take that as a sincere compliment.
Really need to check out their new track "Vortex", Tati is next level.
I have to second this, you’ll love it.
This ^^^^^
Yep
Yeah, I 've been listening to Jinjer for years now and I thought multiple times they had reached their peak but they somehow manage to constantly one up. Vortex blew me away when I first listened to it.
@@HorseloverFat1984 exactly, Teacher, Teacher was in my top 3, and Vortex has moved them all down a slot. Fantastic track
Being an opéra singer and being able to appreciate, enjoy and understand this kind of singing is one of the most beautiful things in Music.

Tatiana flips between growl and head voice effortlessly. Of course, this version of Teacher Teacher is studio produced but you can hear her do it live in the Perennial live concert video from Wacken 2019.
Yep, that version of Perennial is all live and all amazing
yea and when you speak to her afterwards she is the sweetest person thats so funny :D
@@Quizzy0000 Yes I've noticed that growl singers are usually very kind and gracious - totally opposite to what we'd expect them to be. Maybe it's because they don't always associate with the typical bad-boy rock-'n'-roll culture. But that's just my own personal experience and view.
@@BlackRoseImmortal Go listen to the set they just performed at Hellfest 2021, it's even better thant the Wacken version.
"If Tatiana were to yell at me in this tone...I would sit down."
Yes. Everyone would. Right after our soul left our body.
The rattle in the blastbeat is the push pull technique used to alternate the bell and shoulder hits on the ride cymbal.

I think you would like the song Perennial live at Wacken them because Tatiana holds a note for at least 10 seconds and I believe you'll really appreciate it 😊
11 seconds, then growls right after 😲
It is also a fantastic showcase of her stage presence. Masterful.
And it's during the last song of a pretty long set.

Underrated comment, nice example from Dig
You are one of the best, if not the best, music reaction channels around.
Wow, thanks!

I wouldn't call it gang vocals, that's a different thing. Layered screams/ growls are pretty common though.
No its not, its just 2-3 layers of her voice
@@Shadow0fd3ath24 Sounds like both to me. Gang vocals in the back and a couple layers of screams with contrasting tonal emphases that sort of fill in each others' gaps. The way the screams are layered reminds me of something Trevor Strnad of The Black Dahlia Murder does a lot, sounds really brutal.
I'm an old retired recording engineer and studio musician, and I have two observations. First you are just so damn cute. Second, you're skills are just so damn evident.
Thank you Roger A.! It means a lot. ❤

No matter how many times i hear this song i still get goosebumps
I have a hard time getting into purely screaming singers, especially if I cant make out what they're saying, but this is absolutely brilliant! I feel like her growling is purposeful and I can totally make out what she's enunciating!
I love the way Pantera goes between the most beautiful clean singing and the super harsh vocals; so I'm LOVING this!! ❤️ ❤
Thank you for your reactions to Jinjer, seriously. Elizabeth, you really have a gift in the way you pause this video
I love your reactions, specially about metal. I would love to see you reacting to Powerwolf. They are a great band and Atila has a great voice 😊
If we're thinking of the same video, her cleans are incredible on that live performance too.
Kirk, kudos for a perfect thumbnail capturing that moment when Elizabeth bursts into laughter.
So delightful!
I saw jinjer recently in Florida THEY ARE AMAZING 💙
I would LOVE to hear you react to Otep, specifically Ghost Flowers or Confrontation. She's one of, if not the single greatest female metal vocalist of all time, and extremely underrated. And Evil J is a wizard with the bass guitar.
When the drummer of the band plays some Rackmaninoff on the piano, you know there is serious music going on...
We Need A Gimmick is so hilarious!
Yessss!!!!!!
NEKROGOBLIKON!! ah baby, haven't heard them in a while
@@nicholasbrassard3512 I was about to give you a thumbs up there for a second but I just realized I can't since you haven't heard Nekrogoblikon in a while! Do it! Do it now! OK, I'll like it anyways.
Hell yeah! ive seen them 5 times. met and hungout with them all, coolest dudes ever, and Scorpions vocals are top fucking notch And very unique!
I love this band, i love the reaction even 2 years later
I like how Tatiana uses her clean and harsh vocals to express duality. It was the same thing on Pisces.
The best reaction and breakdown of this song I've seen so far
Yeah you know you are at the top of the reaction game when you get this much interest hours before a reaction. And of course it's Jinjer literally the band that started almost all reaction channels.
Mm Nightwish is a big one too
The extra sound in the blast beat is that Vlad is using the bell on the ride to give the bright pop to the tone.
-Tatiana start growls.
-Elizabeth: 😆😁😄
