  • This is a Box Opening & Review of Columbia Men's Newton Ridge Plus II hiking boots. I start the video with a quick box opening and initial thoughts of the boots. I take a video of the boots on the feet walking & running around for over a month time. at the end of the video, I conclude by giving an honest review after wearing the boots for a month.
The Boots cost between $89.99 - $250.00 depending on what colors are in demand and where you purchase them. The question is are they worth the roughly $100.00 price tag?

    Best boots hands down.
I go hiking a lot and usually long trails 5+hours. Ive tried a lot of brands.
Salomon: Rather clunky boot and you notice after about 2-3hrs (depend on terrain) makes hiking a chore and ankles hurt
Merrell: The boots dont last and showed wear after 2 outings, plus they are ugly and bulky feeling
Timberland: Bulky feeling like a workboot, and had 2 rivets come off in the lacing system during a a hike, had to wrap shoelaces around the area.
Keen: The boots grip was just garbage and boot itself was not very supportive in the ankle area, ended up actually just tossing these in the trash.
Now these Columbia Newton Ridge, world of difference: 1.) They look good 2.) They are comfortable like a running shoe , had no problems jogging /running with them very light boot for the durability they offer 3.) They wear well, been on at least 11 long hikes and after beating up the boots and walked through rocky creeks and scraped on rocks, mud all over them, thorny trails etc I thought they were finished. Al I did was wash them off and wipe them don they still look 90% new besides small crease where your foot bends. 4.) The grip on these is just awesome, walked on mossy wet rock and didnt feel like any slipping going on (but obviously you still have to be careful anyway), after each hike I washed the bottoms thoroughly and that seemed to renew the grip. So you can trust the traction (By the way those stairs you said were marble, you can clearly see that 11:51 they are just typical concrete stairs, the same smooth type of concrete they use in fire escape stair casing) 5.) Completely waterproof, even the lace area will not get water in the boot, stood in running water many times and 100% dry inside. 6.) great ankle support and 5 hour hike in these is very comfortable. These boots are not hot inside so good summer hiker. ONLY DOWNSIDE: You will have to wear proper socks because the tongue will scrape your leg after a while if your socks arent high enough/thick enough.
So its basically the best hiking boot I have tried to date, already have several pairs. I hope Columbia keeps up the Newton Ridge line with added improvements and designs. There really is not very much to improve on this boot. Excellent overall boot by this company.

Thanks for all the specific feedback in regards to the hiking boots!
It sounds like you definitely know and have experience with all different types-brands of hiking boots. I have & like Salomon Prism hiking shoes: love how they feel & very lightweight, not really water proof though, not sure about their boots. I agree, about the Timberland: do not like them but I guess they are good for construction? I had keen: they were waterproof but too hot & heavy on the feet, did not really like them either. Merrell: I had a couple and had issues with the quality as well, they fell apart too soon, rubber behind the heel cracked after one winter.
Now, these Columbia Newton Ridge+ boots I am loving! As I stated in the video lightweight, waterproof, comfortable, and so far very durable . I also like the look of them as well. I even wear these on rainy warmer 70s degree weather do not feel hot, they feel great. I BELIEVE THEY ARE THE BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!
Oh, by the way, my first-floor lobby is definitely marble. Now, you may be right about the stairs, I am no expert. I do know, that when the lobby or stairs are wet no matter what shoes, you are gonna slip, slide, glide & fly. Yes, I have slipped with all my different shoes in that damn stairway & lobby when wet.

I may check out the Prisms for lighter hikes on flatter more established trails where a boot may be overkill.
I never owned a pair of hiking shoes, I just stick with boots due to having more ankle support. But the Prisms may be worth getting just to try them, plus the price isnt bad. Thanks for the mention of your Prisms, I know a lot of hikers like Salomon, but they werent for me.(I had the Quest 4) maybe their hiking shoes are better, I'll check it out.

@@jensz9360 I did not review or do a box opening for the Prisms, did not expect that I would like them as much as I do. But turns out that the more I wear them the more I like them. They are so lightweight & airy, great for summer. I can walk or jog for hours in the prisms. They may not have the same heel support as hiking boots, but the support is good enough. I wear the prisms more than anything else right now.

@@christopheradeler Maybe do a review on the daily wear of them (Prisms) and show how they held up after a given amount of time. If you stillhave them now it would be interesting to have avideo of how long you had them, how often you wear them and what they go through then show how they held up.
Personally I am more interested in how a shoe wears and comfort level than how it looks out of the box. The fact the Newton Ridge look great was just a plus, but overall my opinion the comfort and usefulness of the boot is primary and the boot is hard to beat.

@@jensz9360 that is funny you mention making a review on the (Prisms). I have been wanting to do that for a while, even though won’t be a box opening. But I like them so much I feel like I should. Perhaps 🤔 I will then.

Thanks for the positive comment on the boots video, much appreciated! Yes, yesterday was raining and 40 degrees here in NYC, and last week was snowing, I used these Columbia Newton Ridge boots, and my feet were comfy, warm & dry. I use them on the street or Central Park when it is raining, cold, or snowing. They are still holding up well, still has plenty of tread. I did change out the insole for a new gel insole. But I do that with all my shoe insoles after a year. Still a Great shoe. Still Recommend.., although , if you are in deeper snow 7 inches or more you need boots that are a little higher. I have been in deeper snow and it has went down in my sock with the Newton Ridge, so deeper snow needs deeper snow boots.

us NYkers can be so inconsiderate at times. Although, I waited before I walked for a few & kinda wanted it to look natural in the moment, & wanted them in the shot, so.it goes

is this boot true to size or should I go a size down?

    • @christopheradeler
      @christopheradeler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi,
I am a size ten shoe size and purchased a ten size boot for for the Columbia Newton Ridge and it fits perfect for me with just the right amount of breathing space. So just buy the shoe size you usually fit in, not size smaller, you should be good 👍
