Thatcher Demko seems to have hit a roadblock during his rehab of his knee he injured in last years playoffs. We talk about that and more in today's NHL hockey video!
Lankinen is an option that I'm shocked no one is talking about. Think hes definitely proved that he can be a 1B after playing for an awful Chicago and an otherwise unimpressive Nashville. Why not try to slot in a proven goalie to split time with Silovs?
A team that went on an 18 game point streak then outplayed their playoff opponent - the momentum from which they rode into their biggest free agency day in franchise history - is unimpressive? Lol
Thank you for mentioning him! As a Finn it feels great to hear that at least some of you in NA has understood that he is a great goalie! We realized that when he was in WC 2019.
I hope this gives good development for Silovs this year regardless. Even if we sign another goaltender we should give him some opportunities this season.
@speedyhedgehog5834 I just don't want a repeat of Spencer Martin. Promising young guy, Demko goes down and he's thrown into the deep end, killing his development. Silovs is better no question, but still a concern
I’ve been saying for months that Demko is done. Can never recover from the combination of Groin, Head, Knee injuries. Sorry to say, but goalies are like high strung thoroughbreds; sometimes you have to put them out to pasture.
that would be an insane team this year. when 2 players who were both AHL/undrafted in the previous year are told that only one of them is getting a spot in the NHL that will be a solid effort EVERY night
I think some of the blame for Demkos injury problems over the last three years has to land with Ian Clark. He "rebuilt Demkos game in season and, in fact, it did work. The issue is that he had Demko playing in unfamiliar body positions that put strain on muscle groups that were not conditioned to play that way. You can see the progression, Started with a bit of a tweak in his back, to compensate, he relied more on his hips, hence flexor problems. to overcome this, the groin was being overworked and, after losing some strength in his core, his knees became more and more distended and, as a consequence, more vulnerable. I said to my son at the time when I saw his game transition that he could be heading for some injury problems. I never thought it would get this bad, though. I don't doubt that Demko is well aware of this. He has probably lost confidence in Clark to some extent as no doubt Clark would vehemently deny this analysis.
1. They do if Demko were to be out confirmed for at least 10 games which is likely but he wouldn't be out until playoffs so whoever we sign, will have to leave when Demko comes back as it pushes us over salary. 2. DeSmith already signed with Dallas.
@@bruce4139 Skill is not the problem he has tons of it...just that he has been so injury prone the last few years. Canucks have to really think about trading once he is healthy. I think if he stays injured that they should explore not signing him when his contract is up.
Missed a huge name on the list as Yaroslav Askarov has asked for a trade out of Nashville. That probably only makes sense if we find out that Demko is missing for the bulk of the year though.
Swayman is available lol. I think they may be slowly taking their time on it because they don't want it to be a nagging thing. Like why rush it if they can maintain a top 3 spot.
Ouch, at least they're not having him start the season when injured like back in 22-23, it was the last game before Monahan in his first Habs season, knowingly played injured and wanted to stop and go for surgery after that trip back west and Demko was terrible, which was unusual, I remember Habs crushing them 6-1 or such and Monahan getting 3 points. Then both of em said they were injured and were out. Silovs was spectacular at some moments and tired the Oilers more so than they have should gotten to beat them in the playoffs, but Silovs was frustratingly good (I got 3 teams I root for, Edmonton is #3) with the barrage of stars and future stars who were being very good in the playoffs, so good that the 2 of em that impressed me, Holloway and Broberg are now gone, if I was Holloway I would've stayed in Edmonton, with Kane on the LTIR he would have played with Draisaitl, and a much bigger chance of winning the cup than with St-Louis. I was a big backer for Broberg too, I assume he will be superstar level in 3-4 years.
This video making Martin Jones out to be nothing really impressive last year with the Leafs is utterly incorrect. Jones' contract hit is a league minimum or maybe a two-way for a solid backup who can still play in the league. He didn't have 1 bad game last year with the Leafs and gave the team a chance to win each time. Even played some incredible games where he showed signs of playing like a starter. Jones is without a doubt a league backup still.
If Demko is out for the season then I think that he will be traded. Typically when goalies miss an entire season due to an injury they don’t return to the team that they played for before they were injured. If the Canucks can find a good replacement for Demko & that replacement comes at a lower price than Demko then what’s the point in keeping Demko? Also when goalies miss an entire season they typically experience a significant decline in their game, look at Cory Schneider.
Lankinen clearly the best option right now. He had some pretty respectable numbers in Nashville so was surprised to him not get a backup deal inked early July I wouldn’t say guys who signed July 1 like Reimer, DeSmith and Wedgewood are any better than him. At this point in the off season you could most likely have him for league min. If he works out that’s perfect because you’d rather have Silovs in the A actually getting starts than play every 3rd or 4th game behind Demko.
Silovs needs to become the starter. I don't know about Lankinen, though he did do well while playing for a rebuilding Chicago team. In Nashville he was inconsistent.
This is no longer bad luck. Demko seems like he is just injury prone. I hope he can stay healthy, but he might be one of those goalies that are always getting hurt.
Sounds like Demko is trying to pull a McDavid, rehabbing torn ligaments in the hope they regenerate on their own. Dude, you're no McDavid. Get it fixed.
Mcdavids didn’t just regenerate on their own, I can’t say I know all the details about his but I believe he tore his pcl completely. Which can be worked around by strengthening certain muscles/movements. So he still has no ligament there and coming back from that without surgery is very possible, might even be recommended if it is an isolated injury
@@andrewwilkins3014 I need to go back and find the special that Sportsnet did on McDavid's recovery. It was incredible the team of specialists he had and all the testing and imaging they did, sometimes after a specific exercise. I thought at one point they saw new fibers in his PCL growing and connecting. Maybe it was oversimplified for a general audience.
Rutherford will call up his favorite trading partner, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and make a deal for a player that he drafted...Tristan Jarry, who, by the way, is available for trade, considering the Pens depth in net, and their desire to get Blomqvust and Murashov some NHL games.
Hot take that shouldn’t be, canucks are a fringe playoff team at best this season. Mid bottom six, defence got worse, worse goaltending if Demko is out

honestly I trust him more than desmith ngl
@@Vanilla.Sasquatch i admit he was clutch but his save percentage was under .900

Not sure how Jacob Oster went undrafted this year, he was goalie of the year in the O and is an absolute stud
i didnt watch the full finals but although london was a powerhouse some of those games mightve been questionable in a teams decision
I agree. Plus we haven’t heard anything about the Captaincy for the Lightning.
Leafs fan, I hope they sign Jones. Guy was clutch af for the Leafs, legit saved their season when the 2 main goalies were down.
He'd be a good 1B in a tandem. They overworked him (out of necessity) and it showed in his numbers eventually but he's a very good cheap option.
Kevin Lankinen is available as a free agent, might be a good option. Give him a 1 year contract and tell him he can fight Silovs for the job.
that would be an insane team this year. when 2 players who were both AHL/undrafted in the previous year are told that only one of them is getting a spot in the NHL that will be a solid effort EVERY night
The way silovs played in the playoffs was not a fluke. Guy has potential to be the newest goalie star
To see a title like this, and how a week later this pales in comparison to the news Columbus got. RIP to the Gaudreau family.😔
As an Avs fan all this knee injury/surgery talk is starting to trigger ptsd flashbacks. Hope demko can recover from this.
