@@wooby9898 My granddaughter lives 8 miles south of Asheville NC. She is safe, but can only get out short texts from time to time. The needs there are immediate, but the area and Florida will need care and assistance for years. I live in Eastern VA, every few years we get hit by hurricanes usually at tropical storm levels, but power is lost for days and so many trees come down. We have planned for resilience.
One of my bonus sons is a lineman. He is in that area and he said he has seen scarier , harder stuff there than what he he saw with Hurricane Katrina .
Ben, you don't have to just show how many potatoes you got. I for one would love it if you showed how you got through the storm without electricity. How you set stuff up with your cart to get charged etc. Show your survival skills you used, things you can teach us about. And your regular content is always great. We can learn a lot from you guys.
Trauma you’ve experienced is really normal to be unable to stop thinking about it. The adrenaline and survival impulses. Plus the devastation is around you. It’s not an experience you’re used to. Plus then there’s survivor guilt.
I think it's important to keep up with what's going on in the area.filming, documenting where people are needing the help. After the major news channels move on to the next big story your area is still going to be in need. Keep posting the truth. Maybe make videos of helping folks with your knowledge and skills to help them set up off grid.
Ben, that’s what you do in a time of disaster!! You help your neighbor, that is the Christian way!! We love you guys for what you do!! Keep helping others if and when you can!!
I appreciate all the You Tube channels out there showing what is going on. Showing the real tragedy of what everyone are going through and all the stories and unbelievable damage and loss of life. What gets me is how high the water rose in the mountains and the speed of the creek water that became rivers. Then there's the incredible amount of help from all over the U.S. and abroad. I'm on SSI and I will be making a monthly donation and encourage everyone to do the same. Give what you can to help because this is it's going to be rough for our friends in NC and other states.
Some guy who drills wells started drilling & adding generators for free for people so they'd have water. Awesome community, Jason & Ben live in. 👏 I bet your folks were freaked out worried! God bless you all and many prayers 🙏🏻 Nurse Judi in Scottsdale 🙏🏻 ❤️ 📿✝️💖💙💕✨️✨️✨️
It is not just the water plant taken out. The whole piping system is connected and when a building is destroyed, the pipes get open to contamination. That whole pipe system must be sealed up and capped off until it is self contained. Then the plant cleaned up and disinfected. Then the complete system must be flushed ran with clean water, disinfectant and clean water again before it can be safe for human consumption.
One of the people I watched said people were getting second-degree burns from the water and if he was going to be doing water rescues, to make sure he was protected from head to toe.
When you go through a disaster area it makes you quiet silent and respectful of the impact of mother nature. You are also shocked by the level of destruction. As we went through Hugo we recalled the silence and quiet as people processed and recovered. Very surreal and reverence for lives lost.
I live on the gulf coast and have been thru several hurricanes. It is amazing what the wind and water can do. It takes all day for it yo pass over your house. God has kept me all these years. You can hear tornados all around you
Ben, Al, and Jason Please on your next podcast talk about what you'll do differently than you did this time. What you be adding to or getting rid of. Yes… info about what you have learned about your backup systems in place and how they are set-up would be great!!! Power teams from New Brunswick Prov, Canada and were helping near us in Georgia!!
Watched a PermaPastures video that showed a decontamination setup in Asheville for people coming out from digging in the mud. Serving others is great for my mental health! Thankful for all and continued prayers 🕊🇺🇸🌅🙌
Ben, you have a good intuition about the danger of trees. It’s no small jump to have one snap back, split or do something unexpected and it can be deadly.
You guys totally need to keep videoing.the media is doing the same. They show the same picture over and over and people start to wonder what’s really going on because I’ve seen that picture before. How bad can it really be if you don’t have any more shots than that, you guys are showing in real time what’s happening and how these peoples lives have been devastated
One of the most important things for people after a natural disaster is being able to share their story. There are needs to be met and there's damage to fix but people also really need to be able to talk about their experience to help process in a healthy way. If you can just be there to listen to people and ask questions, that can make a huge difference to them and also to others if you're able to share it in a video. If they're happy to be filmed that's actually validating people's experiences and feelings and helping the rest of us to understand. 🙂 Also, just watching other people make time to care about others encourages the rest of us to do likewise. Thanks guys, glad you're all doing ok.
It is good to know you are all alright. The videos that are coming out of Asheville and now Florida are alarming. My son is an insurance adjuster and is located in NC. He was/is completely out of the way of damage in NC. It will be a very long time in the Asheville area before they will want/need insurance adjusters. The YT videos that were taken during the disasters are disturbing. Water is so powerful and can create so much major damage in a very short time. Here in Michigan, our hearts and prayers go out to all of those affected both in NC and Florida. God bless you all in these two terrible disasters. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Living in an area that was hit with 2 major fires in June of this year, 3 deaths, over 1500 structures lost, then monsoons shortly thereafter causing flooding… the devastation is unthinkable. Sewage from septic systems, ash and silt, trees uprooted and taking out bridges. Homes not burned washed down the river. Businesses destroyed, horse race track destroyed. Jobs lost. Being a tourist town, there’s not enough housing for locals. Air B&B are way out of range for locals. It will take decades to recover. Contamination of water and soil is a huge issue. Flooding will continue to be a problem for decades as the surrounding forest is decimated. Insurance companies have been terrible! People wanting to rebuild have been refused insurance. Lending institutions refuse loans due to no insurance. Government offering $750 to those that lost everything and pulling up stakes and out of here in a matter of 45 days! I truly feel for the people. My husband and I have been so blessed. We have a backup generator so we never lost our food. We were able to donate to several food trucks that were feeding wild land fire fighters and people displaced. Stores reopened once water and power were restored. Local stores and Albertsons donated food before it perished. Fuel to run generators was being brought in, in 5 gallon cans from 45 to 70 miles away as most of the major stations fuel was contaminated with water and ash. Almost 4 months later and this little tourist town is trying to survive. Small businesses that weren’t burned or washed away are trying to reopen. It’s a heartbreaking process. People are resilient and the love the locals have given and shown is amazing to witness. We will survive. The people of NC, TN, and Fl will do the same. It takes the people of the villages to build back as outsiders are in and out like the news trucks. Tourist must go and support the people! The real stories are with the locals. Do what you can to support them build back stronger.
Sounds like survivers remorse gentlemen. It's real. Normals keep shifting. What you and your families are doing is more important than you may realize. Though you can be entertaining, you are documenting so much more. Your age, your life experiences and what you are learning now is so encouraging. You notice you have lots of "Grammas" watching over you. There is no scripts. Real life. God bless you.
Another Grandma here: I respect you guys so much. Just the fact that you are showing up when we know you have other things pulling at you. I live across the country, (30miles SE of Sea tax airport)and I feel the adrenaline flowing wishing I could help. It's so nice to hear how you are trying not to offend anyone. I was really feeling the heat we had this summer, and now I feel so fortunate that that's all I had to worry about. I can't imagine the emotions that people are dealing with. Being a grandma I wonder if there's something maybe your kids could head up to get some of the kids affected and plan a creative event just to give them a break from all the turmoil. Ask Buggy what she thinks! I trust that whatever you&your families are doing is the right thing at the right time .With love and prayers, Teresa
Tampa was spared from a direct hit! The howling wind gusts were scary. I was blessed with no damage. My neighborhood has a lot of fallen trees. I’m catching up on my TH-cam favorite channels after power outage for a week. So thankful for all the linemen that helped Florida get back to “normal”. ❤
Watching all this from Indiana, just heart breaking. I have been watching several you tube channels and I believe what you guys post vs what is on the news. It will take years for many to recover. I anticipate long term financial assistance needed. Keep posting and let us know who needs help!
Ben & Jason, think of surviving the storm this way. You'll be there to support folks as they rebuild. You can grow and raise good food using sustainable practices and, perhaps, mentor those who need your wisdom.
Oh I also wanted to give a shout out to you guys for talking about Nate's work in Tennessee last podcast he has increased subscribers in a addition to his own videos about rescue efforts. ❤
Glad Ben and Jason came through and well as you did. Jason your video idea sounds like a good one. Every bit of truth revealed is a good thing I think because some of our news casters seem to have blinkers on.
We were hit by a level 5 tornado in Oklahoma City in 1999. Thousands of homes were lost and many lives lost. The neighborhoods looked like a bomb site. But survivor's survive and homes and lives were rebuilt. All of the effected neighborhoods were rebuilt and are much stronger today. Our hearts go out to those folks, but you will survive and rebuild.
I live in Titusville, our Governor has done an awesome job….i live on one side of the street, we never lost power, however, my son lives 3-4 blocks over and he lost power…I heard the loud pop when it happened.
Both of my kids, grandkids and my best friend all live in Tampa. Milton made landfall in Siesta Key south of Sarasota as a Cat 3. I live an hour north in Sumter County. I was in Leesburg (Lake Co) with my mom. The sound of the wind was soooo scary. My house had no damage thankfully. But there was lots of tree damage, fence damage along the way when I finally went home Thursday afternoon. Blessings & Prayers to everyone in the damaged areas in NC & FL 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for the real kind of video this week. Though I'm not even near any danger zone from hurricanes but I feel much the same ax you expressed today. When I watch videos that are going n through such disaster and then I watch a video of areas not affected and life is goinig on like nothing happened,, it makes me feel depressed. I believe that we have not been affected often feel guilty. Especially when there is nothing I can physically do to help anymone. But the Lord reminded me to be thankful and praise Him for his mercy and love. Those that have been affected in Ashville basically seem to have this thankful spirit. Ben and Jason, just praise the Lord for His mercy and love in sparing you and your familiues. I trust that you will be able to then get back to taking care of things with more pleasure than it seemed to have this week. Looking forward to all of you getting back to the life of the homesteader who perserverse in hard times. Having been raised on a farm in the 40's and 50's, here will always been something that knocks the props out from under you but you can sit back and let life go on without you. These times and experiences are tough and hopefully you won't have to experience more for a very long time. Have a great week getting back to your meat processing and building all of you. I look forward to watching all of it.
the news people have no interest in showing the storm unless its looting and such seems like they dont care ........... unless its criminal they dont care hugssssss to you for trying to bring it to light hugssss
I would like to know the reality of how the aftermath has played out. Is there a difference from what they're dealing with after Milton - Im hearing there is great disparity. I'm on the W coast, we feel so helpless in only donating funds when there is so much loss and devastation. Glad people are sharing as they can. God be with you and keep you always safe. ❤
After our 70 mph windstorm in 2015 when a 75 ft tree fell on my front porch, I took out 5 trees close to the house. No regrets, especially since I live in a mobile home.
I would rather see a video that someone who was actually affected by the hurricane puts up. The news is going to have a certain agenda for 'selling the news' that isn't always that useful to an outsider trying to figure out how to help. Thank you for posting true videos about real things! Ben, you're wise to be respectful of those big trees! I come from a family of farmers and loggers, and the loggers of us are the most quiet, thoughtful people of my family. They say if you have a 1% doubt about a tree, you don't cut. I opened my face up and broke my nose with a tiny branch falling a long way from the tree NEXT to the one I was cutting. My bad, 17 stitches. No pretty girl any more.🌻
I can certainly understand the heartbreak in the lack of motivation to film the simple chores of life as you have in the past. I'm way up in Ohio and I'm watching these videos and I do appreciate the footwork being on the ground talking to people but even for somebody like me so far away untouched there's a gut feeling that is so overwhelming that it has actually kept me from moving forward. So that in itself, motivation is very understandable I'm a firm climate change believer and I'm thinking how can I prepare. Like we would be getting what maybe tornadoes or blizzards, and it actually has me having my guards up thinking what are the little things I need to put in place how would I how would I do things if need be if an upcoming storm is coming my way. My heart breaks for all of you. But the reality is in the vastness of the whole world this was a very small spot, even in the eyes of climate change so I don't believe the 100-year thing, but what an eye opener. All in all God is good. You were protected from all of this for good reason.
😊 Jason borrow Ben's trailer! You can temporarily modify it for that 1 pig. Put a piece of cattle panel on the top with zip ties. I watch all y'all's channels but first time for the podcast. It's great! Really enjoyed listening! Praying lots for all affected by the storms. I know the feeling a bit. "L" from hell(Laura) shredded SW Louisiana where I live. I've been living in a 5th wheel in a small rv park. This is now home. Thank God for a roof over my head! ❤
Thanks so much for filming the news is not showing all the devastation. My is in the National Guards was sent into the worse parts where the hurricane hit that is not been shown on TV and the talk we hear about people being dead and hung up in trees and debris is so true he said it's horrible and he is so traumatized from it. The government or FEMA is only giving people that lost there homes, there livestock, lost everything are only getting $ 750.00. That's crazy ! It takes that much or more to feed a family for a week. Plz pray for these folks. God Bless you guys.
I see the filming and reports as learning! What materials, skills, and knowledge of know how were most useful? I appreciate the TH-cam about how various people deal with extreme circumstances. Thank you for sharing!
Milton made landfall right below Tampa. My mother-, sister-,and father-in-law live right where it hit and it was a Cat 3 at landfall. Thank God my in-laws are ok and they didn't have any damage, however, one of their neighbors had the roof ripped right off their house. Praying that anyone involved in these hurricanes recover quickly and that everyone is accounted for and safe!
I live in the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire. We held a 2 day event filling a 53 foot tractor trailer with supplies and food from a local grocery store. It was delivered to a Boone North Carolina church this morning. 🙏
After the initial influx of aid, everyone is going to need help for the long haul. Building materials will be the major needs, besides the food, water and health assistance. If several people with portable wood mills could go around and make lumber from the fallen trees, that would take care of two problems!
It is eye opening how little we can believe about what we hear on the news. How often did Ben say "heresay"? The tornadoes from Milton took many lives and did so much damage. There were over 125 tornado alerts on Wednesday afternoon in Port St Lucie. So much destruction. 😢
I think it is Gentry & Sons who are part of the Cajun Navy that drove up with a caravan of heavy earth-moving equipment to cut roads out of the countryside where roads were washed away. Their videos are fascinating (and terrifying) to watch. And I watched a trained fast-water rescue guy (also he was a TH-camr) DRIVE DOWN FROM ALASKA to help. There are both ends of the spectrum there... looters, as well as providers.
Down here in southern Louisiana, I would've never known how bad it really is without y'all and others from TH-cam. They mentioned "the news" mentioned North Carolina 1 time.
Helicopters: we are 1 hour east of 2 of you guys and the helicopters are still very active. I have an app that shows aircraft and there were 4 near you yesterday.
Maybe document what it takes to limb and buck a tree. A lot of folks don't understand the weight of a tree, tree ball, the amount of time to limb a tree, nor the amount of time to buck a tree.
I honestly don't want to see the normal things most people vlog about right now. You guys need to make money to provide for your families. The rest of the world needs to know what's really happening. This helps keep eyes on and funds coming in. I don't trust other news sources. You guys are my news. You guys could be a lifeline for these people. Of course be respectful if people don't want to be filmed, but it might actually help some of them process just to talk and tell the world their story. When the filming stops, people will forget. Imo, you should make those poor souls your new project ❤ You're all in my prayers and my heart is full for you. I pray Almighty God Give you strength, wisdom, and provision.
I just love listening to you guys talk about what you are doing around the property. It sounds like the stormy weather has really put a lot of roadblocks in the way of getting your regular projects underway. I wish you could put photos up when you are talking about building projects.. i am trying to visualize Al's "lean-to" Anyways.. Thanks for everything you share.
It's Friday the 11th. This may be old news by now, but there have been out there in the thick of it, some with drones surveying the hard to reach homes for stranded people and those who didn't make it. There is a guy who I just subscribed to, who goes by the channel, Tree truck life. He had a .ot of good footage of the roads and rivers.
Jason & Ben, did your family lose cell & internet Monday? We did here in Scottsdale AZ for over 12° because of Hurricane Helene. 🌀 l can't believe it. E - W millions of people out. Florida got hit hard with 38 tornadoes as well 🌪 Helene was a category 5. ✨️💕📿✝️💖🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Regarding the winds, normally winds for hurricanes are measured 10 meters (33 feet) above sea level. So down at Jason and Ben's elevation the winds were under 70 but the higher in the atmosphere and mountains you go, the higher the winds were. They were 100+ at higher elevations.
Guys keep up the good work go interview neighbors. Documentary on C what we all are coming back from. Documentary documentary. ❤️you all. Keep up the great work. Remember farm aid. We need homestead aid concerts later.
Putting out videos is the only way we get real news. Thank you for doing it.

This is such a historic disaster that it needs to be documented as much as humanly possible. This story must be told.
I just watched a video about the dogs searching for the missing, and I haven't stopped crying yet. It is truly heartbreaking. 😢
The last report I heard was 133 tornadoes hit Florida.
When you go through a disaster area it makes you quiet silent and respectful of the impact of mother nature. You are also shocked by the level of destruction. As we went through Hugo we recalled the silence and quiet as people processed and recovered. Very surreal and reverence for lives lost.

Take care of yourselves 😊
After our 70 mph windstorm in 2015 when a 75 ft tree fell on my front porch, I took out 5 trees close to the house. No regrets, especially since I live in a mobile home.
Good talk.
No pretty girl any more.🌻
Thanks for your videos and sharing what you know
There’s ne’er too much sharing, we all feel for them, 😢❤
I can certainly understand the heartbreak in the lack of motivation to film the simple chores of life as you have in the past. I'm way up in Ohio and I'm watching these videos and I do appreciate the footwork being on the ground talking to people but even for somebody like me so far away untouched there's a gut feeling that is so overwhelming that it has actually kept me from moving forward. So that in itself, motivation is very understandable
I'm a firm climate change believer and I'm thinking how can I prepare.
Thanks for sharing your areas conditions guys.. it is truly helpful .. to help us all stay connected. Makes things less stressful.
It's been so sad to see all the utter devastation 💔 but so glad that folks like you guys showing us what's really going on with the aftermath ❤
Thanks guys amazing as always great podcast ❤😊
Thanks for having me.
Jason on your gate that got bent. Heat it up and Jack it up. It’s a really good story on the history of the storm ⛈️
Take care❤
Good morning from Virginia.🇺🇸
Morning!
Everyone Be Safe 🇺🇸✝️🗽🇺🇸✝️🙏🗳
Good morning guys.
Saw some French Canadian lineman near Kings Mountain, NC
After the initial influx of aid, everyone is going to need help for the long haul. Building materials will be the major needs, besides the food, water and health assistance. If several people with portable wood mills could go around and make lumber from the fallen trees, that would take care of two problems!
Great idea!!
Ants are trying to get away from ground saturation. Helene affected them, too.
B.C, in Canada is down there a few other provinces have sent their crews too hugssssss
Just help them with problems let them tell what they need
Florida here, Milton caused excessive damage. Just cleaned up from Helene and here comes another. #FloridaStrong.
I also noticed that with all them trees down..folks have more view and more sun light !!
And I have been following ya’s news channel there
I honestly don't want to see the normal things most people vlog about right now.
Think of your good fortune this way, there has to be some one (s) to start the clean up the mess and help those that have suffered
