Small Creek BROWN TROUT Fishing with Spinners

  • I went to a small creek to do some brown trout fishing with spinners! This was my first time EVER fishing this small creek. The day started very slow. I fished for almost 3 hours before catching my first brown trout. I tried a bunch of different lures. I finally tied on a custom made spinner that one of my subscribers made me. Once I tied on the custom all black spinner, I started catching a lot of brown trout. Small creek trout fishing is my favorite. This creek has not seen the last of me! :)

      This is actually something I've found surprising, but most anglers will show more respect for fish than other conservationists. It's a big part of the fishing culture, and it's something people dont realize very often

    Love the small creek video, there is nothing I enjoy more than pulling trout out of small creeks.
    I know you didn't ask this time but here you go, find yourself a medium action 5' rod. Yours is light action, can tell by how those fish bend your rod. A medium action rod works so much better when fishing upstream. The current alone will mess w a light action rod and it makes it really tough to set the hook.
    Second, stop w all that other lure garbage. In line spinners are the cat's ass. You will learn how to swim those lures through the stream by adjusting speed of retrieving, it will be deadly.
    The only other lure I would buy, is a Rapala. Rapala F5 and F7, CD5, CD7, Brown trout, purpledescent, rainbow, silver and gold all work v well. Size of lure is in direct relation to stream size.

    • @FishHawk
      @FishHawk  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I agree, spinners are the bomb. They're by far my favorite lure for trout. I haven't really messed with the Rapalas but maybe I will give them a shot. Thanks for the suggestion!

    • @scottseifert4086
      @scottseifert4086 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't used my Rapalas since I started making my own spinners. Still keep them in my vest. It's hard to throw a $7-8 lure when I can throw a $1.00 lure that works as well 99% of the time.
      Occasionally, not often, but a steelhead will just flat out refuse a spinner, especially if he's hit it once and got off the lure. Then I pull the Rapala out and they will usually slam it right away.
      Nice talking trout w you, I got the fever. Just waiting on some above freezing weather to go chase some steel, then trout.

    • @wvlife9010

      Bent Rod Bassin it’s so he doesn’t harm the fish and gets a clean release.

    • @FishHawk
      @FishHawk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They're pretty fragile. I try not to touch them at all. Sometimes you have to. If you HAVE to touch them, make sure your hands are wet. They have a slime coating that acts as a protective barrier for their bodies. Dry hands, the ground, dirt and other stuff will remove their slime coating and harm them. Also, it's important to get a net with rubber mesh instead of nylon or cloth net. The rubber is easier on the fish. Hope that helps. Sorry for the long reply.

      Trout have smaller mouths than bass, and brown trout have teeth haha. Its best not to handle trout if your going to release them. If you're going to eat them it don't matter.

    I know what was happening to you and the spinners... Why they were chasing it and not biting it. They bite it easier on the current. If you Cast on the top of those pools, just were the water starts to flow, before the real current u Will have bites. You have to cast it upstream obviously.
    In the pools itself you can try bouncing the top of the fishing rod as you reap the line, to make them impulsively atack but no promises. There just are some parts of the day that they will chase it and dont bite it on those spots.
    Just some advice from one fishing lover to another. Tank you for the vídeos. If you use these tips at all, please let me know. Good fisheries

    Awesome video! Those brown trout have amazing colors. Do you have any tips for getting them to bite in the winter? I fish in NJ, so its probably colder than where you fish and maybe a little different, but I usually have a really hard time even finding trout and getting them to bite. I usually fish in small and tight spaces to try to find them.

    • @FishHawk
      @FishHawk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I love their colors. Usually something moving slow with some scent works well in the winter. They aren't as aggressive in the winter. I always try a spinner first usually. Just to see if they will chase. But if that doesn't work try something slow and something with scent. Powerbait, power eggs, powerbait honey worms. And of course live bait like minnows, night crawlers, wax worms and mealworms. But live bait is my last choice usually. I don't like using it as much as artificial lures.

    • @samsonk2077
      @samsonk2077 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, thanks. For wild browns I have to use artificials and barbless hooks in the main stream I fish for them. I’ll try the spinner soon

    This is actually super handy. I've been looking for lures and baits to catch browns in the spring and summer, but I've been yet to find any before this video. I have a black spinner that looks really similar to what you were using that I'll have to try next time I'm fishing in an area with browns
