They were very famous in the 70's in Europe. There music is gorgeous and they still perform with only Valerie as the original Degree, true class!!

A definite crime that those vocals did not lead to those beautiful women becoming superstars. They were big in the UK and Japan. Constantly had the pleasure of watching them on British TV regularly in the 1970's and 1980's. This was their best ever record but was not released as a single. There biggest hit was When Will I See you Again, which was number one in many countries. They were in at the start of disco music, which started with Philadelphia International records. The MSFB record featuring the girls was the signature tune to the Soul Train show. In the UK they had a number of more poppy hits after they left the label which produced many brilliant records created by many artists under the wing of Gamble and Huff in Philadelphia. They are a very good example of how talent and the record industry often does not give you access to the best music.

Amazing performance! THE THREE DEGREES was the first album I ever bought, in 1975 when I was 10 years old. Glad you discovered them! And yes, they never got the recognition or promotion in the states that they should have.

The group was formed in 1963. After several personel changes in 1967 the line up was: Sheila Ferguson, Valerie Holiday and Fayette Pinkney (who was in the group since day 1).This is the line up that signed with Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff's 'Philadelphia International Record' in 1973. In December 1973 their 1st single on the label was released: 'Dirty ol'man'. The song climbed the charts in Europe, giving The Three Degrees their 1st number One hit ever in The Netherlands and Belgium. Their international success started. The next release from their album (simply called: 'The Three Degrees') was 'When will I see you again'. That song would become their signature song. Number one in the UK, number two in the US, winning the gold prize at the Annual Tokyo Music Festival. A worldwide hit.
    Many hit songs followed.
The group 'The Three Degrees' is still around. Nowadays a different line up: Valerie Holiday (longest running member since 1967), Freddie Pool and Jessie Wagner. They still tour, performing live with a band, still sold out venues. Maybe check out their live version of ‘Dirty ol’ man’ (banned by the BBC….):

I’m from New York. Growing up in the 70s, everything coming out of Philly we knew. They were on MFSB music and other projects. You love the 3°. I’m glad the world is now finding out about them.

Their 1975 live performance of this masterpiece is believe it or not, even better than this magnificent 1974 performance ❤

England loved them. They were personally invited to perform for Prince Charles at his 30th birthday party, by Charles himself. Many years ago, of course, lol

Sadly, the lady to the right of Sheila, Fayette Pinkney seldomly sang lead. She actually had the best voice, imo, but all of the ladies could SANG! Check out "Shades of green", and "Isn't it a pity", a George Harrison cover that featured Fayette on lead. Beautiful songs, and displays Fayette 's range and powerful, soulful voice.

I hope you react to The Three Degrees' big 1974 hit "When Will I See You Again?"
I am surprised that you hadn't heard of them or their hit song listed above, but I guess a lot of young people haven't been exposed to them or that song.
