Oh my god. Sarah’s head voice is godly, just like Whitney’s. It has that operatic quality to it. Her use of agility is sooo classy and tasty. Her vocal dynamics is everything. Her rolling vibrato is literally my favorite among all singers I’ve heard. You can also check out her performance of Maria from the same concert. That performance also showcases all that I’ve just said about her.
He was talking about how she used her head voice. Which I agree with. Anita does not utilize her HV in the way that Sarah nor Whitney did. In fact, there isn't even much of a tonal color change when AB uses her HV.
Yes! I rec Maria all over to everyone possible. I actually always really hated that song in original form.(🤷🏻♀️) but in Vaughan's hands, it's a transcendent experience.
But u gotta Appreciate that u got technology to see these old great classical singers or good singers sing.. also you should be happy into the generation u were born in I was happy being born into my exact generation but I used to be like u but I just realized🎉🎉 that we should be thankful for what we have…
I was 5 in 1964 and loved songs like this. Yes, I liked all genres, but artists like Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Lena Horne, Doris Day, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr...I could go on and on.
The Devine One! I love Sarah Vaughan. She is one of my all time favorite jazz singers along with Nancy Wilson, Ella Fitzgerald, Betty Carter and Billie Holiday
That must have been a miracle cold medicine she took because, even with a cold, she was STILL absolutely perfect! When I was a kid, we had her Mr. Kelly's album in the old RCA stereo console, and both my mom and dad loved her. She was second-to-none, and she was the perfect blend of sweetness, elegance, and soul. Such a unique blend of qualities! She was, truly, a genius. She was to music what Einstein was to science.
I truly enjoyed seeing this musically educated young man discover the pot of gold, silver and gems that is Miss Sarah Vaughan's voice. He savors, loves, respects and appreciates this exquisite performance, which made me love it even more.
So, do you still think she was "nervous" at the beginning? She knew how she could sing! The sweet little girl thing was an act; that grin near the end was -- well you said it -- she KNEW she was crushing it! Thanks for your review.
Thanks so much for your reaction. They are always so knowledgeable and thorough. She was nervous because she had a cold on the day she was being recorded and televised. She was known for her VOICE and to have a cold was going to limit her vocally. Sarah Vaughn was one of the greatest vocalist of all time! They called her the "Divine Sarah" and 'Sassy". Her voice was like an instrument. She was a vocal stylist and painter of words. She was well celebrated in her day, especially in Jazz circles. However, there was such racism and colorism, she did not receive as much television airtime as others such as Ella Fitzgerald the Queen of Scat. Sarah Vaughn also scatted. Just an incredible God-given gift and she mastered her craft! It's too bad she isn't as celebrated and it is because she is not as well known. She's up in the top 20 voices of all time, maybe the top 10. This is just pure vocals without mastering and auto-tuning. Her tone, articulation, and vibrato is incredible. She is one-of-a-kind and classy. What a voice and what a wonderful person! Thanks again
Saw her live on SS Rotterdam Jazz Ship I think it was ‘75. I was working on board. There was a BBC series Jazz Ship I think it’s still archived somewhere she was just incredible
And never forget: underneath the technique and the artistry was that incomparable inborn instrument! Sinatra once said: “Sassy is so good now that when I listen to her I want to cut my wrists with a dull razor.”
What's so impressively phenomenal with Ms. Vaughan, from a little thing I've noticed in this particular performance, is that she barely even moves her mouth! Yet still has the immense ability to make her voice so large and big that it even echoes! I remember first listening to this and was totally shocked with how much her vibrato made me feel as though she was right here on my living room singing to me!!! This is thee BEST rendition of this song! And she's so beautiful! A legend!
JustTheVoice, you were listening to a voice that is so rare it is not heard or brought to fame for generations. Sarah could very literally have been a fantastically gifted opera vocalist had she been given or wanted training. She was raised in the church and could have been a gospel singer to rival and likely outshine Mahalia Jackson if that had been her path. Sarah chose her own path and her own destiny and had a well lived free life. Her accolades, the true understanding of her abilities and gifts, came later in her life than say a Lena Horne or Ella Fitzgerald.
I'm just seeing this reaction from a while ago. I would encourage your reaction to some of her other live performances: The Shadow of Your Smile The More I See You Maria Over The Rainbow 1950s And I Love Her
Incomparable, what a gift that voice was, what talent and what skill! It just transports you to another world, and all that charisma and THAT smile; it makes you fall in love. We are blessed to be able to listen to such bliss. Eternal, exquisite, beyond words. More reactions to older clips! Dusty Springfield singing 'A House is not a home' with Burt Bacharach is one I would highly recommend.
Beautiful. Another one for you, I know you'll love it. Introducing... The Lady of Song, Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass, Cry Me a River 1975. She and Joe are both immaculately exquisite.
I'm seeing this a year later, but you killed it. Your reaction to "Sassy was on point. She was without one of Jazz's' GOATs. Great commentary as usual.
She is my favorite jazz diva. She was more than jazz though. Her voice could swoop up high then dip down very low. She did jazz, blues, ballards,. Can you react to her My Funny Valentine she has several live performances of it.
......the planet loved her the minute she opened her mouth to sing...her 1st husband ...was the one..who swathed her onstage in backless silk satin evening gowns by DIOR..with elbow length satin gloves......with pearls dripping down her back... fox fur shrugs....a singing apparition....the people called her...THE DIVINE ONE...
Yayyyyy! I am thrilled you've brought Sassy, The Divine One to your subscribers. I've really, really liked a lot of singers, but I am not kidding when I say the first time I heard her, her voice stopped me in my tracks. "Who is this?!" I had to find out. The only other singer who has ever had that effect on me was later on - Lara Fabian. One contralto, one velvety soprano. Both masters of control, power, delicacy. Vaughan got a hard time for not staying "pure" and singing pop music too. Jazz artists were always such snobs. Please put on your future list her rendition of a song I've always HATED: Maria. Done in a style I admit isn't my favorite - cool jazz. But in her hands? Omg! th-cam.com/video/ioknfRkI0mY/w-d-xo.html
I'm surprised a young guy like you listen to this type of music? You're right, she is my best female vocalist, an angel, check her out in her later years, you'll she is even better with age.!!!!

Sarah Vaughan was not a singer, but a living musical instrument. Spotless. Beyond human❤️
That was a vocal master class.
It's too much, how perfect this performance was. Other-worldly.
One of the greatest vocalists ever.
It touches my heart deeply seeing a young person experience this amazing vocalist and to acknowledge and appreciate her great talent.

Wonderful. (And more like Anita Baker and her contralto IMO, who credits her style to listening, studying and emulating Sarah V.)

@@mic1240she was not a contralto, she was a soprano. I don’t know what tho, I think a lyric maybe but don’t quote me
@@samuelking9497 you’re right, a mezzo soprano, though she’s known for her lower register.
Never stop returning to this particular live performance for her musical genius. Absolutely a masterpiece. She and Ella were both geniuses.
Real singing and absolutely beautiful. I was born in the wrong era... no over singing and unnecessary runs.

Stunning. Thank you.
THE divine one. And like miss Whitney, a Jersey girl. This was GOOD!
Newark has produced so many remarkable talents, particularly in Jazz!
Sarah Vaughan is better than whitney
This is the beautiful music I grew up listening to in the 50’s and 60’s. My fav sassy singer trio is Ella, Sarah and Carmen.
PS back then Sarah also played the piano and sang.
I love her vibrato.
Sarah Vaughan won the Apollo theatre and got to open for Ella Fiitzgerald. By the time she was 15 she was singing in jazz clubs.
They say when you saw her live her voice was so powerful that you didn't just hear her you felt her voice. Everything vibrated
My favorite singer. So happy you're covering her
sarah, nancy, dinah, billie, and ella have such angelic voices
Just MARVELOUS ! 😊 ❤❤ 👏 👏 👏
So HAPPY you love her like i do

Sarah Vaughan in my opinion is the Lady of Song. Every song she sings, she elevates it with her style ,class, and tone.
LOOOOOVE this performance
This woman's lower notes are unearthed. I remember hearing her in a video when she was wearing a green dress...soo deep👏
That was her 1981 North Sea Jazz Festival performance
A World class performance....and she knew it as she finished....Fabulous!
Absolutely fantastic,
One of my favorite Vocalists!!! So humble and such elegance!!
My fave singer of all time the Divine Sassy Sarah Vaughan
We going BACK! Oh Sarah... ❤ Makes me wanna see you react to Ella as well, the melismatic Queen of jazz.
Sarah Vaughn... Iconic... such a rich and smooth voice. Man..just perfect! Impeccable❤

"The Divine" Sarah Vaughn. One of a kind. We were blessed with her angelic voice.
The standard! She was one of Amy Winehouse favorite singers and inspiration
That's right, Sarah Vaughn, Minnie Rippetton, Ella Fitzgerald, the very best jazz singers in the world.
The Voice before The VOICE. Queen Sarah Vaughn
They were cousins. Also related to dionne Warwick who was her goddaughter. Related to leontyne price. All of these ladies from Newark new jersey
Another Master of dynamics
Divine, brilliant, and she is so charming. 😍

Her vocal from Another world. So Magical and Incredible

Another vocal standard, along with Mariah and Whitney 🙌🏾
You can’t compare them to Sarah. Sarah came way before. Paved the way for them. Mentioning Ella Flitzgerald or Linda Hopkins would be more fair.
@@KajiVocals And you think other singers haven't taught Sarah?
@@ymaysernameuay1113 I'm not sure what is your point here.
