Anybody else feel like they were watching a Disney movie? I didn't serve in Nam, but I did spend 5 months in Saudi. Our unit had NO reason to be there, but our Battalion commander was looking for his "full bird" and he got it shortly after we came back. No one was hurt OR killed, but could've been...ALL FOR A PROMOTION!! He's no better than the politicians that started Desert Storm AND Nam!!
God Bless my fellow soldiers that served and ARE serving...thank you!!

Nothing scares a light colonel more than the dread of retiring a light colonel...

Whilst I empathise with you Brian Herron I would like to ask what was your battalions speciality, infantry, armour, medical, supply????, I ask because for all I know and perhaps you know you could have been retained in theatre for a myriad of reasons, maybe to make up the numbers of combat troops in theatre, maybe they were planning on some kind of op or mission that didn’t get the green light, it could be any number of reasons that you weren’t privy to, unless of course you think battalion commanders have to run all their decisions by you, sorry but I don’t know any military commander who tells his troops everything about any one thing. I to spent time in Saudi, and Kosovo and the Falkland Islands and did what I was told to do, even as a Sgt I was only told enough to ensure I could get my troops to do what I needed them to do, and I only told them enough to ensure they would do their job without questions. YOU might THINK you had nothing to do, but it could be that by just being there you were in fact doing something. I know it seems that you battalion commander kept you in theatre so he got his promotion but if you genuinely had no role to play the HIS superiors would be asking some awkward questions about why his battalion was still in theatre and not on the great big gusome bird (M.A.C) flight back home, maybe what you are saying might be true in the United States military, but in my 24 years service in the United Kingdom military I never ever heard of a promotion being awarded because of an officer keeping troops in theatre when they could have been better employed elsewhere. Like I said, I can empathise, “Hurry up and wait” or “Get on the bus 🚎, Get of the bus 🚌” were frequently the order of the day, and we whinged, moaned, and bitched about it, but it “was what it was”, and unfortunately that’s what happens as soon as you put your nation’s uniform on, and until Scotty invents transporter technology it always will be. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

The background music is weak. It should air some of combat noises, which were unbearable for many, as proven by the numerous cases of undiagnosed PTSD cases that resulted.

“The quick kill technique” or “spray and pray”, I can’t see the boots 🥾 on the ground doing that routine that was demonstrated in a combat contact, and “refresher training in theatre” yeah right, that surly didn’t happen, that might be ok for the R.E.M.Fs, but for the troops on the front line in regular combat combat I don’t think they would want it and definitely would not need it, things are completely different in combat to training, especially against an irregular enemy like the V.C, they didn’t fight the way the United States wanted them to and definitely not the way the United American forces had been taught to fight, the type of tactics used by the V.C were different to anything that the allied forces had encountered before, except for the Australian forces who had been fighting in the same type of terrain that was in Vietnam, and the USA brass couldn’t or wouldn’t allow the boots 🥾 to adapt to the V.C tactics, leaving the boots 🥾 to do the best they could.
An excellent United States propaganda film, thanks for sharing for sharing it with us all. 😀👍👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

What a bunch of BS. We were not as prepared for the will and homeland honor our enemy in Vietnam practiced as this propagandist film shows. I was there in ‘67 and ‘68. I don’t remember many of these features tat are shown. It was mainly get up, do your job, eat and sleep then start again the next day. They say little about the skills shown by the Vietnam Cong and the NVA.The film shows nothing of living conditions of our soldiers. Yes, that is expected in war, but facts are missing. One can only hope civilians are not as gullible as makers of this feature seem to believe. God bless America!

We never should have been there in the first place. We destroyed the country and killed 2 million for what - to kill peasant farmers.
