- Yup, the third book since Drunkens started is filled. In this vid, I go through each page, and reveal how sloppy and random a DM's brain can be! There's no more revealing look at what it's really like in my creative process....eep!
THANKS FOR TUNING IN!

I love the various dividers you used to split up sections!
@5:50 "It isn't pretty..."
Here I think it is a work of art!
You and you're work is so inspiring.
your
I don't usually write comments on TH-cam vids, but I have to reach out and let you know that your videos are, in my estimation, the best available on the subject of Dungeon Mastering ("DM" as a verb). I love the work you've done with ICRPG and have been amazed by all the content throughout the history of this channel.
So cool, so great. I really wish I had found these videos a year ago. Thanks again and keep up the great work. Let me know if there's any way I can help this channel thrive.
Wow thanks Roy! Check out runehammergames.com for ways to kick in a few duckets! Onward! runehammergames.com
A fantastic view into the mind of a dungeon master! Also, I'm super excited to see you fill up book four (and I actually own that notebook from years ago, I found it at Barnes and Noble)!
There is nothing as exciting as an empty book. Endless possibilities and strings of thought hidden on each page.
That new book is a full on tome , Have fun filling it all in , you're my role model for DMing
and campaign design , as a 16 year old art student , you're an inspiration as an artist too , loved the map and ICRPG cards streams
thanks man! 16? wow, great time to develop those bomb practice habits and attack the creative mind with new challenges! Go forth!
Well, I can't say I'm an art student, but I'm 16 and I'm about to be running two adventures. One with my family and one with my friends. Keep in mind I've been playing since Kindergarten, but this is one of my first times making my own adventure. My first question is are there any tips anyone can give me on balancing time between the two. And is "The Sunless Citadel" and good starting adventure for newcomers?
Also, there is some damn good artwork in there, if only I could make such masterpieces.
well..thats a HUGE dungeon and story...I'd start way way simpler to master basics rather than get baffled by a dungeon with 40 rooms...but anything is possible!
Are there any 3rd Edition adventures you recommend?
Rewatching these older videos. I forget how much great content there is in these. Soooo many hours added to my playlist!!
If I can put in my 2 cents on the art of the one shot idea, you've definitely covered a lot of the fundamental ideas, but not necessarily in one video before, so I'd definitely watch it.
since my campaigns are usually quite lethal, each player generates several characters which are handed to the gm. this way, when a player loses a character the gm provides the npc and is introduced so that the player can continue with the group; however, it must remain a npc in order for the other players to get to know him
Absolutely love your journal vids m8. Keep up the amazing work Hankerin, very inspirational!!
I love these videos more than any others you do.
Its why I started my own for dming, and then a separate one when I started playing as a PC
Farkin' love the videos, love the mind, love the work. I know tonnes of people would love to see you do a video on one shots man! You're an inspiration, keep it up!
I had to wait a few days until I had time to really watch carefully because EXPOSED! is my favorite Drunkens & Dragons show. It is the one that enabled me to come up with my own home brew. Thanks Drunkens & Dragons guy.
Wow! Your "rough sketches" are great artwork in their own right, you could publish that like it's own finished work! Ever play "Höl"? The books were all written and drawn by hand, it was great.
Started putting down idea's for story idea's in a sketchbook journal, not as detailed as what you've got in your book. Got a mix of idea's for different rpg like Star Trek TNG, Star Wars, Toons, plus D&D wrote down.
Got some cool sketches there in the book as well as idea's.
Love this stuff man... I'm always pushed to hit the sketchpad after watching your videos. Side note: Don't know if ICRPG will ever hit the table for me but the artwork is great and theres a ton of great ideas in there. So... thanks for cranking this stuff out like a badass.
I understand the emphasis on designing loot. With out class based character power/ability boosts it must come from loot.
I would love to see all of the videos you haven't made yet. I for one would enjoy the One Shot video!
I really like his art style for characters
The request for Elegance and Beauty in the game, very inspiring.
What is the "Choice" value at the top right corner of each section at around 29:14? Sorry if it's an odd question, but I'm trying to improve on my overall encounter design. Every bit helps. Love the room DC I saw on one of your other videos. Have adopted it and other advice into the game at my table.
Shit dude, I need me one of those :-D
Thanks, I really love seeing a little into your head in these videos.
wow, lovely video, quite excited for the next ones
I bought a zelda notebook for my dnd campaign. loving it
Absolutely love these notebook videos.
My DM journal is much more text heavy, and I like the small, digest size the best (I know you didn't really like that size). You have inspired me to try my hand at drawing more. I think I spotted at least one blank page in your journal, so it's not done yet! 😉
i dont do all the backsides..opacity has its limits. Mine are also 'digest'(we,, 'trade') 6x9
Ok, then I mean small 😀 Just measured my journal and it's 3 1/2 x 5 1/2
I'm not a gm. But I am very passionate about my character, my teammates and the world that my game master has created. I want to keep notes about npcs, important events, epic moments as well as a diary of the events that happened during the session. All written from the perspective of my character. Its a bit ambitious and daunting. But I'm up for a challenge.
You should just scan that thing and put it on Drive Through. Recently people payed gobs of money for HR Geiger's notes and they weren't half of what that is.
My fiance just bought my DM journal. I cant wait to fill it!
This needs to be a really sleek well-designed (already done) mobile game
Gonna copy some of these ideas for sure!
Curious if you've looked into ripping the bullet journal index system for indexing the pages of your journal?
its a good system, but a bit too rigid for me
Thank you for sharing! Great looking new book. Why one with lined pages? Curiously, all of my empty books so far have been lined. I am planning for my next book to be empty without lines. I am drawing more. And really starting to take in the idea of "less is more" in game prep. Looking at Roll20 to get more game time.
i always work on lined paper..lets me flow between writing and drawing, and is helpful for a sense of measurement with maps and lists
I like the Moleskine grid books to switch between art and text. Lined books throw off my horrible drawing skills for some reason
That's a good idea. I like the Moleskin empty books, too. I found an empty book that I purchased in college (1987) which is about 1.5 inches thick, 6-by-9, fine grid (blue on white paper) that is totally empty except for two pages where I started drawing a world map. It might have 300+ pages.
Really cool concept and nice drawing you have there. Wish I could be in one of your group and taste your imaginationary gift.
Real fan of ur ideas could u maybe tell me what drawing method or style u use I want to get better
Well I draw directly in ink
best advice I can give is to enjoy your work, no matter where u are on skill...if you enjoy it, youll do it more, and doing it more is teh only path to doing it better :D
This an old video, but I just wanted to let you know: you inspired an 42 guy with dyslexia to fill his first GM notebook. Thank you.
Hey mate! Glad to see that new vids come so fast! Keep it going, you doing great!
P.S. You are talking about that someone who watch your videos could be from your groups. Is that real to join you if i am not from US? Thanks for answer
yep..join our google+ group for lfg
Great! Will be closely looking for your next lfg post now)
That new notebook is EPIC
I absolutely love turning a campaign into a actual real life item. Hey Ank, what pen do you use on those journals? I've been using a 6B pencil to give it a really hand drawn look, but I'm not totally happy with it.
Sorry for my english, not my native language.
Santi Claw Uniball gel elite
i love your art
you are a genius
Hey, what happened to that small brown book from the last Exposé? I was curious how you would bring all the amazing stuff from your mind to those small pages...^^
DM greetings from ol´ Germany!
it ws too dmn small lol
@@Runehammer1 you sure solved that problem! Thanks for showing off your journals.
Room Archetype book? I would like to know more, please.

Ah, part of the Core Set. Cool, thanks.
Hey Hankerin, love the content dude. I was wondering what kind of pens you use in your notebooks. Sorry if you already answered that.

Drunkens & Dragons: Play D&D Like a Badass thanks man!
And my watch later list grows ever longer... Lol
There will be any available/purchasable copy of that book?
nope..just my sloppy journal
25:19 Hail Lord Bison!
I do it this way too
Very good!!
You sound like Andy Bernard from The Office, lol
that cover, hail hydra
What is this Harbingers setting you speak of?
sci fi setting in 5e from absolute tabletop
Thanks! I've been playing Numenera and I love the sci-fi setting, but as a GM I love rolling dice. I love the idea of Harbinger, but I really want to do a sci-fi homebrew with your ICRPG system. Long before I started being a GM, I've been writing stories in the form of music. This hobby has finally given me an outlet to tell my stories in something other than music.
I think your books look awesome but I really can't plan like that. It doesn't make any sense to me xD
7DSystem made the journal! :)
What kind of pen did you use?
uniball gel elite
Runehammer awesome thanks!
where do you get high quality leather books like that
all over...bookstores, amazon
Hankerin, do you find my appearance amusing?
I dont like those expensive stuff caus im afraid to mess it up 😂
huh?
You sound like Andy from The Office
