Great video -- thanks! As a novice watch collector, it amazes me how much better watches look in videos than in photos, so videos like this help so much!!
Howdy Marc! I just bought (and received today) my Samurai "Great White" Save the Ocean. First - thanks for the fast ship! Second - what a watch! The dial is really something nice to look at. Pip & chapter ring are perfectly aligned & I don't know if Seiko changed the bezel action, but it seems really smooth on this watch compared to my other Samurais (not that they feel is any way rough...) Really buttery movement. Now if we can just get Seiko to put out a green Samurai!
I got the samurai at Macy's online special Father's day sale with same-day shipping for a total of $338 which includes tax and shipping shipping. It was a great deal. I had to jump on it.
I just got that samurai today and pictures alone do not do the new save the ocean watches justice. They look amazing in person and when it comes the shark fin you don't really notice it unless you look right at it.
Love that Turtle! The details of the waves, the shark fin, and the sword embedded in the 12:00 indices is absolutely gorgeous! I even like the grooved bezel! I lnow you said the double domed sapphire will work, but I'm wondering if the bezel can be upgraded/ modded?
I went and impulse bought the turtle. The dial is the big start but the grooved bezel insert looks amazing in person. It catches the light in a really different way and complements the dial REALLY well. Really recommend it.
Great video as always. I bought the plain monster, which is still nice. But the best one has to be the turtle. Absolutely stunning in every way and can't stop looking at it. My wife is sharpening knives in the kitchen and muttering "another watch!".
I also have a 6.25" wrist. The Samurai fits fine for me, just the bracelet a little bit heavy but it doesn't bother me. With that said I'm planning to get the turtle. The mini turtle is smaller but didn't like it because of the cyclops.
hi Marc, is the srpd23 and sbdy029 made in Japan ? the srpd23 has "japan" printed on the dial while the sbdy029 has"made in japan" printed on dial. what is the difference ? thanks
Hi Marc, excellent video as always! I love my second gen Monster and am so glad I got one before they decided to add the cyclops, flat crystal, smoother rotating bezel, and what appears to be slightly shorter hands. I am sure the third gens will do well, but to me the more aggressive styling of the second gens are the way to go. The blue dials on others are just amazing!
I like these. I bought the STO turtle from last year, threw a strapcode angus J on it and it's one of my absolute favorites. It's big but wears very comfortably. These look great, too.
Hi Marc, talking about Samurai, I got months ago the SRPB55 gun metal and silicone black strap, does SEIKO has a gun metal bracelet Oyster, for this watch?
All very stunning watches. I am so glad that the monsters have not gone away. I do love them. I was concerned that Seiko was going away from the series.
Can’t remember if I left a comment before when I bought* my Samurai … about 9 months later I’m still loving it. Big, but nicely balanced, and it keeps great time with a long reserve. I keep forgetting to look for the shark fin. *Not from Marc, but from a brick and mortar watch/jewelry shop in my neighborhood. So not supporting OUR hero, but a hero nonetheless.
I bought a fairly expensive Seiko prospex watch and love it so much, I've finally broken my habit of buying watches. Can't see buying any more watches for a long time now.
That Samurai looks dope. Any word on the green dial Cocktail Time? I've got a couple weddings to go to this summer and they sound like a good excuse to buy a new watch
Glad they are still making monsters. I do think the gen 2 and gen 3 are the best, the gen 4 seems kind of like a step backwards. Regardless I will probably buy one
Hey Mark, if it's a watch that hacks, does it damage it if you set the time backwards, say from 7:00 p.m you change it to 2:00 p.m.? I recall in you watch and learn that this is bad for watches that don't hack.
so far, i have only two watches with this system and i have managed to screw up both of them--the seiko kinetic diver and the orient triton. whoever designed these things, i hope, has been lobotomized. what a bad taste--like a turd in the punch bowl...
Love the new STO Seiko, Marc; outstanding color blue and that wave pattern is beautiful, but very subtle. One of these days I've got to pull the trigger on the original, with the gorgeous graduated blue to black dial and the somewhat more pronounced wave design. Would love to see you offer the Seiko rubber strap in blue, please, if you can get your hands on some; would be a perfect complement to the blue dial on any of the Save the Ocean watches. Oh, yeah, I absolutely do fondly remember (and still own) vinyl records, even with their quirks and special handling and care required. Sort of analogous to a mechanical watch, perhaps?
Long Island Watch I just went to your site to get the samurai and saw that it’s out of stock, I added myself to the wait list but I’m wondering if you know how long until you get some new ones in?
I agree on the milled clasp. But their excuse for the Hardlex is that it is actually a tougher crystal in other aspects than surface scratches. It says in the name: Prospex. Made for people who actually dive and/or put the watch through extreme conditions, even if most users don't. Citizen does the same with Promaster watches costing almost thrice what some of their "normal" watches with sapphire does.
That's why I just got the Orient Triton. Sapphire crystal and power reserve indicator. Pro diver 200M for under $400. I do like the Monster on the rubber strap though...
I picked up one of these from you this week and it looks like there are at least a few upgrades. Obv the bezel insert but also the knurls on the bezel are a little different. My main reason for commenting is the bracelet. On the end links it has a 641 as opposed to the 631. This got me thinking and it looks like the end link is a slightly shape. In another TH-cam review the person unknowingly put a 631 bracelet on the SRPD21 and there was noticeable play. I was wondering if you had any additional information on this 631/641 difference.
I was looking to get the JDM Samurai SBDY029 but it's not available in the UK yet and most likely won't be, so I went for the worldwide model. It's perfection.
@@andrewhannam. sure, my point was that regardless of buying from Japan or outside of Japan, you're getting the same watch (quality wise), just different model number for JDM market
On the new Monsters, is the bezel darkened by PVD coating or anodization? If PVD, how prone to scratching will they be, given now big their bezels are? The Great Whites look spiffy. Only question is Samurai vs. Turtle.
You mentioned on a previous video that you would not be offering a crystal upgrade for the Sammy, because it was not as popular as the Turtle. But you do have sapphires that will fit it. Is it still the case that you will not install them? I'd really like to get a STO Sammy and upgrade the heck out of it with a better crystal, a Hexad bracelet, the glidelock clasp, and possibly a ceramic bezel. It would add up in price, but still be more affordable than some of the other watches I'm considering.
You can select one of the two languages, but when the date wheel cycles at night, for a small period of time you'll be able to see the date in the other language. However, once it's fully set, say, at the end of the night, you'll get the English date again. Also, when you change the date, you'll have to cycle through the Spanish dates as well as the English ones. Don't worry, once you set it to English, you'll get almost non-stop English dates, except for that little window of time when it switches to the next date at night time.
