That's a gray fox. They are very abundant on my property. I own 287 acres down here in South Alabama. Gray fox, red fox, coyotes, and big bobcats are caught on my trail cameras all the time. A few years ago I actually saw a gray fox climb a tree after a big fox squirrel. The squirrel went in a hole up in the tree, so the gray fox couldn't get him. I was actually in one of my shooting houses hunting deer on one of my green fields. I heard all the rustling of leaves and twigs. I thought a buck was chasing a doe, but it was a gray fox chasing a big fox squirrel up a tree.
We got gray squirels that big here too. Seen one chew down the whole nut tree last week was amazing. thought it was a beaver but nope 25 pound gray squirrel
damn 287 acres I'd love to own that much land to be able to hunt it. Hopefully you can fish it. There's a pond or a lake or a river that goes through it duck on it goose hunt it.
It looks like a gray fox but it's actually a gray squirrel and they are very good at climbing trees. Only an experienced trapper would know the difference.
