Good choice. I’ve been running with that screen with a reinforcement bracket for about 2 1/2 years with 2-up tours around NSW, Vic & Tassie. Being 6’4” my head had been copping too much buffet, same for my pillion. Works well. Not cheap though. I also run with an EBay purchased $50.00 clip-on spoiler. It too works well & allows me to run with the screen un the lowest position allowing for over the top vision.👍🏍

I'm very happy with my choice and would agree they're not the cheapest option but when you see how they are finished compared to some and the thickness of the material used, you can sort of see where the money is. I, like you, also opted for a spoiler choosing a MRA X-Creen Touring and used the the clamp system rather than drilling the screen (a drill bit will not go near the GSA unless as an absolutely last resort). The reinforcement bracket is an absolutely necessity as the stock mount would allow the screen to flap horrendously.
I really appreciate you taking the time to watch the video and for commenting. Stay safe and enjoy the touring.

Hi. Thanks for the detailed video. However there is no following video that includes your thoughts about the performance. My question is that are you satisfied with the product? Buffeting, etc ? Thanks in advance.

Time flies when you’re having fun……and even when you’re not. Two years has gone by so fast and yes I’m still using the screen. Not long after I fitted it, I added a MRA X-Creen Touring as I was still experiencing a little buffeting with some helmets. After some careful adjustment of the X-Creen, that buffeting stopped and I can do some serious highway work in comfort. In heavy rain, the only thing that gets damp is the front two inches of my shoulders which, in my opinion, is more than acceptable.
I run the Marathon in the fully up position and still use the Cymarc reinforcement brackets to ensure stability of the bigger and heavier screen plus the X-Creen. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching the video and asking the question. Stay safe.

My issue is not buffeting as much as it is noise. Despite an excellent full-face helmet, the noise is irritating. I replaced my factory GS screen with a very slightly larger GSA screen. No help. I installed the Wunderlich Side Wind Deflectors. No help. My experimenting with sitting height leads me to believe I only need 3 to 4 inches more in screen height to get out of the noise tunnel, but I would really like to avoid a taller screen if possible. I see in the comments, you installed the MRA X-Creen Touring clamp system and had some luck. A few questions:

How much larger is the Wunderlich screen as compared to the OEM GSA screen? Wondering if just adding the Cymarc support and MRA X-Creen would be just as good?

That's a good question! Here is a link that takes you to the website where I purchased my Ergo Marathon, tinyurl.com/29av3cye If you scroll through the images you will find one that overlays the Ergo Marathon over the OEM and in this case, "a picture is worth a thousand words". The Cymarc supports would certainly assist the original screen in increasing rigidity, particularly at higher road speeds.
The Ergo certainly was an improvement over the OEM but as I am a reasonably tall rider (189cm (6'3") approx (give or take a bit for age related shrinkage)), I found that I was still experiencing buffeting no matter where I positioned the screen height (Ergo Marathon). By adding the MRA X-Creen Touring (clamped on not drilled through) and with some very careful and painstaking adjustment of the X-Creen, I have achieved a very comfortable, buffet free ride.
Where I am convinced the Ergo scores as well over the OEM, is weather protection. I have ridden for 8 hours in heavy rain (see my "Rider in the Storm" video th-cam.com/video/NptD6vtOzBE/w-d-xo.html )and the only part of me that got damp was my very upper shoulders for about 10cms each side. My helmet barely had a drop of rain on it to the point where I could ride with my visor open.
In conclusion, I guess for me the combination of the two work in total harmony and I stress......for ME. If I were doing it all again, I would more than likely purchase the MRA X-Creen first, use the clamps to fix to the OEM screen (I have done some very high speeds with my work and the clamps have not moved since install), go through the X-Creen adjustment process and see what results you can achieve. If you can't achieve results to your satisfaction then splash the cash for the Ergo and add the X-Creen to it.
I really hope that helps and answers your question. Let me know how you go and thanks for watching the video.

@@TheMotorradRider Thank you that does help….I am about 6’4” so I know what you are talking about with height concerns. I think I am going to do just as you suggested….I already ordered the Cymarc brackets to add rigidity to the screen and then I ‘ll add the clamp on X-Creen Tour and play with that. I am likely going to be riding my bike from Iowa to Colorado this next summer and then when I arrive in Colorado attending the RawHyde Adventure training for a couple days (mostly off road) and riding the Colorado Rockies….so being able to push the X-Creen down out of the way will be good. Thanks again and ride safe.

For it to be effective, does it have to be positioned in a way that makes it taller than the existing screen? I have read that it works not necessarily because of added height, but rather from the increased volume of air that is forced through the opening between the screen and the X-Creen, which accelerates the air up and over the helmet. Any idea if that is true?

    • @TheMotorradRider
      @TheMotorradRider  3 ปีที่แล้ว

That is true. The X-Creen has micro adjustments (and plenty of them) so that you can really experiment with the positioning, function.....and subsequently, air flow through the 'tunnel' that is created between it and the surface of the windscreen to which it is mounted. You do not have to have it mounted higher (taller) than the original screen because it depends on how much you have it "squeezing" the air through the gap and thus accelerating the air which carries the air current higher and therefore past your helmet. I had a similar system (Laminar Lip) on my ST1100 and that worked treat as well but was nowhere near as adjustable as the X-Creen. Any aerodynamicists reading this, feel free to chip in.
You really need to take the time to 'tune' the X-Creen to achieve maximum benefit but it improved my noise out of sight. I did not drill holes in the windscreen to which the X-Creen is mounted as that, in my opinion, weakens the original screen but, rather as you mentioned, used the clamp system and that has not moved since the day it was installed. One tip. If you go the clamp method, when you tighten up the small stainless steel grub screws (set screws) that 'pinch' the clamps together, use a TINY drop of Loctite 243 thread lock on each of them to keep them in place!
I really don't think that you will regret getting a X-Creen as you can really tailor it to suit your personal requirements to the point that you may find that you do not need to have the windscreen set as high with the X-Creen as you might do without it.
      Hope this helps.

@@TheMotorradRider OK thanks for the reply. I understand the apprehension on drilling holes in the original screen, but I am thinking of going that route. Do you happen to know, if I get the clamp system and I like it, can be converted to a bolt-on system?
