As a woman the latest murder-based podcast exclusives have been difficult to hear about, and I always admired that your content was different than the oversaturated male predator violence market out there. It'd be great to hear more strange, dark & mysterious surrounding non-violent experiences or at least less male on female violence. I'd personally love to hear more haunted/legitimately terrifying places, abandoned places, etc.! Me too! Floods water, at least through human inhabited areas, are always bad, but in a hospital? With all sorts of stuff still sitting out like blood samples. Well, and alligators, I'd also be pretty concerned about those. Lol.
The last story was definitely an alligator. I'm from New Orleans and lived there during Katrina. All kinds of wild life got washed into these buildings due to all the flooding. This gator was probably starving since it was trapped and that is why it chased them.
It could've been hungry, but I don't think it was starving. There are plenty of rats and shit in abandoned buildings like that. The gator would've still gone after them like that if it wasn't starving.
Gator for sure, given that the story takes place in Louisiana, lots of water in the building and, "Large horizontal silhouette." Immediately made me think, alligator. Honestly that sounds scarier to me then any ghost or spirit in that building.

I mean, when I was a teenage boy, my hair and clothes were absolutely 100% my top priority in any and all situations. I wouldn't have ruined clothes I care about.
Growing up in the countryside I'd always throw on old clothes with the actual intention to ruin them. When Mr.Ballen said this about the boys I got a hit of nostalgia, not only would I do it for these sort of reasons (you never know what exploring the unknown is going to require) I also remember the feeling of excitement I'd have putting them on. Like whatever this adventure throws at me I'm ready. Of course you'd need more than old clothes to fend of an alligator but that's the way my child brain worked haha
How is it inexplicable? They were 12 years old. And probably didn’t want their parents to yell at them for getting their good clothes dirty. So they put on some old clothes to explore. I’m sure they weren’t expecting an alligator to appear. They were dumb 12 year old boys 🤷🏽♀️

About 30 years ago I worked at a warehouse in Cato NY. Often I would be there alone in the middle of the night alone. We didn't use the 3rd floor so I decided to investigate one night. When I reached the top of the stairs I heard someone running away. I searched the place and found no one. Scary times!
@MeowingCat835 most definitely running person(heavy). Probably homeless and and knew where to hide, I was gonna offer them some food, but couldn't find anyone. Definitely scared me.
I was doing electrical work one time and I spent all day by myself upstairs. When it was only an hour or two left before I was done, I was taking a break and looking around, and there was an old fiberglass shower liner almost completely up against the wall and I poked my head around just to see it and there was somebody sitting in there staring me directly in the eyes as I peered around the corner. It was just a homeless person but it scared the absolute shit out of me because I didn't expect anybody to be there. They had to have been sitting there silently for about 5-6 hours because nobody came in or out while I was up there, and I even ate my lunch up there by myself.

You always manage to find the most unsettling pictures. The picture of that “giant dog” was very creepy and the picture of that black face at the bottom of the basement stairs was really unsettling. Good job!
What is so amazing is that the story telling is so incredibly good that you can picture exactly where people are, what they can see and what they are doing. How he does it with no notes or references is beyond me.
there's cuts in the filming. he could have notes around the cameras too. personally I'd read or watch a story like a movie, and then imagine I'm retelling it to a friend.

If you go back and watch his first few videos when the channel was new it's like night and day. He was less descriptive in the beginning and less "peppy". He didn't have his flow down yet. He also has excellent pronunciation and enunciation.

That's is why it's called: EXPLORING. Imagine if no one ever went into the unknown.. boring. You ain't going to believe people use to explore the unknown BEFORE any phone was invented, no back-up no police, just themselves.
Plot twist: Kurt's dad told him not to go into the abandoned building because *he's* the serial killer. And the only reason Kurt is alive is b/c he didn't want to kill his son.
True story of a college friend: she was in an older medical building for her toddler son’s doctor’s appointment. On the way out the son wants to take the elevator. They go from the 2nd to the 1st floor, at which point the elevator jerks, then falls into the basement. The elevator is now tilted and as she is pressing the buttons (which do nothing) she hears a weird noise. Then water starts sweeping into the bottom of the elevator...they had fallen onto a water main. She manages to pry the door open, at which point the water is knee deep. She carries her son out, up a flight of stairs and back to the doctor’s office to say what happened. As she goes back down, the water had reached the top couple stairs leading back down to the basement. She later found she had a tibial plateau fracture from the fall, but was just thankful she did not drown or get electrocuted with her son. Happened in NJ about 14 years ago.
I am not sure of the exact location, but they lived in Spring Lake at the time. I wrote about it because I believed the advertising of “elevators are super safe - they don’t fall like in the movie, etc.”. They are safe in general, of course, but if my friend hadn’t experienced it I wouldn’t even think that kind of accident was possible.

When we were teens, there was an abandoned hospital that a lot of other kids / teens and young adults would visit because it was supposedly haunted. Not sure if it was or wasn't, but myself and a bunch of my friends used to go there on Friday nights, purely so we can mess with the other people going there. Started off very tame with random noises, we found a way to get into the cavity above the ceiling but under the midfloor (basically where all the airconditioning / water pipes were), so we could use that to go from room to room and throw glass and stuff on the ground in seemingly empty rooms - slowly escalated to us rigging up fishing lines to windows / doors, with the pinnacle being using some of the old jib-board that lined the walls to make a make-shift "wall" we would sneakily move in covering the stairs after a group went onto our 'floor' we did all the shannegans at. Worked surprisingly well since it was dark and most people coming there were there for the first time, though that only lasted two weekends since someone called the cops the second time round. Still, lots of people screaming, I'd wager a couple definite 'brown pants' accidents.... Fun times XD

@@OldManePeace They knew that was the other tunnel. He says the tunnel looked different than the others and sloped downward; very easy to spot. What they did was the equivalent of pulling the blanket over your head when you think you hear something in the room at night. It does nothing if something actually wants to hurt you, but it puts your mind slightly at ease so it feels better to do that.
When I was a kid, I was scared of basements because in 1979 I had my first and only sighting of a ghost in our very own basement. The house was built in 1906 and had an unremarkable history but on that fateful day I was doing something in the workshop alone. I heard something, and looked up to see an old man with a terrified expression on his face running towards me with a flashlight. The whole sighting lasted just one second or so, but I was scared as hell. For years afterwards I would force my brother to go downstairs with me anytime I wanted to use the workshop. My theory was that maybe this old man saw ME as a ghost in HIS timeline in the 1930s or 40s because somehow our timelines intersected in that one instant. I assumed he was from the 30s because he had this worker's hat on (not sure how to describe it, like a puffy baseball cap).
First, I absolutely love Mr Ballen!!!! The hospital in the 3rd story, It actually has a sub-basement that is still flooded TODAY, 17 years after Hurricane Katrina!!! When Katrina hit, the people that were in this hospital didn't get evacuated for over 2 weeks!!! If i remember correctly, it was a VA hospital at that time. AND YES, there were/are gators in there, there is a kind of drive thru "tunnel" that goes under the 1st floor that was used by the ambulances, that's how the gators get in and out. :)
As a Floridan (where the conditions are strikingly similar to Louisiana) the biggest danger those kids faced was a bite from a Water Moccasin or getting grabbed by an Alligator

The first story reminded me of the novel The Wolfen by Whitley Strieber. Some large canine that can imitate human sounds and hunts humans foolish enough to go off on their own is an absolutely terrifying idea.
Or SCP 939. A red Cainine like creature wich mimics human speech it hears to lure you in. Tho they dont exacly know what they are saying. If they heard: Run! Theres a fire over there! They whould just repeat it in hopes of someone coming to them.

You should look into the history of some older cities. Where I live in Chattanooga TN has an entire secret underground world where the city used to be 2 stories lower but because of flooding they built the entire city up 20-30 feet with rubble and debree, but leaving most of the old tunnels/sewers and basements of the old buildings still fully intact. Most of the entrances are gated off and underground in the basements of these older buildings. But lemme tell ya, going down there is a spookfest. Mostly just mice, spiders and such. But the sounds man, the sounds..

Most don't even know about it. I live down here and can feel it. When big trucks go by or they are drilling. It feels like you're on a bridge in a wind storm.. you can feel the slight vibrations and swaying. It's taken me years to get used to and I still game to stop myself and remind myself At just the right time- it'll feel like a small earthquake. It isn't rocking big time, but enough you feel it. The last story was definitely an alligator. I'm from New Orleans and lived there during Katrina. All kinds of wild life got washed into these buildings due to all the flooding. This gator was probably starving since it was trapped and that is why it chased them.

It could've been hungry, but I don't think it was starving. There are plenty of rats and shit in abandoned buildings like that. The gator would've still gone after them like that if it wasn't starving.
Good thing it kept rushing them instead of using stealth mode.
Gator for sure, given that the story takes place in Louisiana, lots of water in the building and, "Large horizontal silhouette." Immediately made me think, alligator. Honestly that sounds scarier to me then any ghost or spirit in that building.

The inexplicable part in the third story is that before going into the murky water, three boys changed into old clothes they didn't mind ruining.

I mean, when I was a teenage boy, my hair and clothes were absolutely 100% my top priority in any and all situations. I wouldn't have ruined clothes I care about.
Growing up in the countryside I'd always throw on old clothes with the actual intention to ruin them. When Mr.Ballen said this about the boys I got a hit of nostalgia, not only would I do it for these sort of reasons (you never know what exploring the unknown is going to require) I also remember the feeling of excitement I'd have putting them on. Like whatever this adventure throws at me I'm ready. Of course you'd need more than old clothes to fend of an alligator but that's the way my child brain worked haha
How is it inexplicable? They were 12 years old. And probably didn’t want their parents to yell at them for getting their good clothes dirty. So they put on some old clothes to explore. I’m sure they weren’t expecting an alligator to appear. They were dumb 12 year old boys 🤷🏽♀️

About 30 years ago I worked at a warehouse in Cato NY. Often I would be there alone in the middle of the night alone. We didn't use the 3rd floor so I decided to investigate one night. When I reached the top of the stairs I heard someone running away. I searched the place and found no one. Scary times!
Was it light or heavy sound? Maybe it was a rat/mouse. Or a stray dog/human. Anyway, scary!

I was doing electrical work one time and I spent all day by myself upstairs. When it was only an hour or two left before I was done, I was taking a break and looking around, and there was an old fiberglass shower liner almost completely up against the wall and I poked my head around just to see it and there was somebody sitting in there staring me directly in the eyes as I peered around the corner. It was just a homeless person but it scared the absolute shit out of me because I didn't expect anybody to be there. They had to have been sitting there silently for about 5-6 hours because nobody came in or out while I was up there, and I even ate my lunch up there by myself.

What is so amazing is that the story telling is so incredibly good that you can picture exactly where people are, what they can see and what they are doing. How he does it with no notes or references is beyond me.

there's cuts in the filming. he could have notes around the cameras too. personally I'd read or watch a story like a movie, and then imagine I'm retelling it to a friend.
@@DST.73 he definitely has notes in front of him but you're right. The delivery is amazing. It's very conversational and it flows. If you go back and watch his first few videos when the channel was new it's like night and day. He was less descriptive in the beginning and less "peppy". He didn't have his flow down yet.
He also has excellent pronunciation and enunciation.

True story of a college friend: she was in an older medical building for her toddler son’s doctor’s appointment. On the way out the son wants to take the elevator. They go from the 2nd to the 1st floor, at which point the elevator jerks, then falls into the basement. The elevator is now tilted and as she is pressing the buttons (which do nothing) she hears a weird noise. Then water starts sweeping into the bottom of the elevator...they had fallen onto a water main. She manages to pry the door open, at which point the water is knee deep. She carries her son out, up a flight of stairs and back to the doctor’s office to say what happened. As she goes back down, the water had reached the top couple stairs leading back down to the basement. She later found she had a tibial plateau fracture from the fall, but was just thankful she did not drown or get electrocuted with her son. Happened in NJ about 14 years ago.

When we were teens, there was an abandoned hospital that a lot of other kids / teens and young adults would visit because it was supposedly haunted. Not sure if it was or wasn't, but myself and a bunch of my friends used to go there on Friday nights, purely so we can mess with the other people going there. Started off very tame with random noises, we found a way to get into the cavity above the ceiling but under the midfloor (basically where all the airconditioning / water pipes were), so we could use that to go from room to room and throw glass and stuff on the ground in seemingly empty rooms - slowly escalated to us rigging up fishing lines to windows / doors, with the pinnacle being using some of the old jib-board that lined the walls to make a make-shift "wall" we would sneakily move in covering the stairs after a group went onto our 'floor' we did all the shannegans at. Worked surprisingly well since it was dark and most people coming there were there for the first time, though that only lasted two weekends since someone called the cops the second time round. Still, lots of people screaming, I'd wager a couple definite 'brown pants' accidents.... Fun times XD

What they did was the equivalent of pulling the blanket over your head when you think you hear something in the room at night. It does nothing if something actually wants to hurt you, but it puts your mind slightly at ease so it feels better to do that.

I grew up in a basement lol much nicer than ground floor dwellers.
When I was a kid, I was scared of basements because in 1979 I had my first and only sighting of a ghost in our very own basement. The house was built in 1906 and had an unremarkable history but on that fateful day I was doing something in the workshop alone. I heard something, and looked up to see an old man with a terrified expression on his face running towards me with a flashlight. The whole sighting lasted just one second or so, but I was scared as hell. For years afterwards I would force my brother to go downstairs with me anytime I wanted to use the workshop. My theory was that maybe this old man saw ME as a ghost in HIS timeline in the 1930s or 40s because somehow our timelines intersected in that one instant. I assumed he was from the 30s because he had this worker's hat on (not sure how to describe it, like a puffy baseball cap).

First, I absolutely love Mr Ballen!!!! The hospital in the 3rd story, It actually has a sub-basement that is still flooded TODAY, 17 years after Hurricane Katrina!!! When Katrina hit, the people that were in this hospital didn't get evacuated for over 2 weeks!!! If i remember correctly, it was a VA hospital at that time. AND YES, there were/are gators in there, there is a kind of drive thru "tunnel" that goes under the 1st floor that was used by the ambulances, that's how the gators get in and out. :)

As a Floridan (where the conditions are strikingly similar to Louisiana) the biggest danger those kids faced was a bite from a Water Moccasin or getting grabbed by an Alligator

The first story reminded me of the novel The Wolfen by Whitley Strieber. Some large canine that can imitate human sounds and hunts humans foolish enough to go off on their own is an absolutely terrifying idea.

You should look into the history of some older cities. Where I live in Chattanooga TN has an entire secret underground world where the city used to be 2 stories lower but because of flooding they built the entire city up 20-30 feet with rubble and debree, but leaving most of the old tunnels/sewers and basements of the old buildings still fully intact. Most of the entrances are gated off and underground in the basements of these older buildings. But lemme tell ya, going down there is a spookfest. Mostly just mice, spiders and such. But the sounds man, the sounds..

We've got a small city under us in Columbus Ohio.
It's a huge underground parking system.
Most don't even know about it. I live down here and can feel it. When big trucks go by or they are drilling. It feels like you're on a bridge in a wind storm.. you can feel the slight vibrations and swaying.
It's taken me years to get used to and I still game to stop myself and remind myself
