Love my KOT, definitely getting this for my B rig. The thing you have to keep in mind with the KOT, POT, DOT is it really only sounds as good as your rig. This is the opposite of an “amp in the box” and it will not rescue your tone or save a backline amp. All it does is push forward the qualities you already enjoy in your amp and reduce the ones that arent helping you on a track or live. So keep that in mind, I know lots of people who didnt like their KOT because there rig was built on a flat, full range signal and were getting most of the character from their pedals, you need to already enjoy your guitar->amp tone to dig one of these
I agree, although I like it for boosting into a Marshall-in-a-box style pedal or into a muff style pedal. I just can't get a bad sound out of it. I play an AC10 vox amp.
This is what was throwing me off when I first got mine. "I waited 5 years for this?" was my first impression. But the more I played it, the more I realized that it wasn't adding anything "magical" to my sound, it was just me but grittier.
You guys HAVE to do more videos like this with the guitars. Hearing Jack talk in between and get his thoughts is so crucial. And his candid playing samples seems so much more natural and less performed. I’m not saying for every guitar but maybe at least a few?
There’s a presence dial on the inside you can adjust. Turn it all the way right to 0 to sound more like the King of Tone/Prince of Tone. King of Tone comes stock with the presence dial on 0.
Interesting that Jack described the distortion as something you could feel if not immediately hear. First thing that sprang to mind was the Klon. I look forward to the comparison video.
Tone for the people!! Yes. I have had a KOT for a couple of years. Waited.... and waited... and waited. Glad to see something readily and widely available form these good folks. Rock on!
I’ll have to get one of these :) funny thing about the KOT is that Analog Mike says he prefers the fuller sounding distortion of the POT/DOT to the KOT.
Great demo. You have some amazing guitar skills with some incredible licks. Would love to be able to play many of those licks and styles. Your playing does the pedal justice!!!!
Very nice playing and tones. Thanks. I've been on the waiting list for 2.5 years now but I might have to get this in the meantime, if only to decide how I'd like the od vs distortion settings on the KOT to be set (if I ever get there).
Long time prince of tone player, always ended up in the boost setting. The OD setting was always my least favorite of the 3. Interesting how different tastes are. I’ve been wanting a second one for a while and this will probably take that spot.
very nice review!! Most OD's are too harsh indeed (even the boutique's ones like Strymon and Wampler) I was lookig for this for some time. Bought two of them. Nice playing !
Yup sounds like my Prince of Tone. That's awesome! I'm glad these will be more readily available and people won't have to scramble on Wednesday mornings to snag one like I did! Killer playing man! Sounds awesome.
Cant wait to buy one of these. I love how they decided to make it in a small enclosure too. Still have a long time to wait for a KoT, but this will definitely get me there for the time being and a cool pedal to add to my collection
@@PeachGuitars i do have a question for you. I live i the USA and i know Peach Guitars is in the UK. Is there any extra duties or import taxes i have to pay upon delivery, or is all that stuff taken care of in shipping cost at checkout when i purchase something from your store?
I finally got one to a/b with my kot. It's definitely a different animal. The Duke has way more presence and breaks up in a different way than the kot. My first thoughts are keeping the KoT as my main drives (I set mine up as OD on the red channel and a slightly heavier Dist on the yellow channel) and either stacking the Duke for the "bigger" sections or using it as the chimey slightly driven tones for the strat.
Few things I wanna say after getting this pedal (I have multiple drives and got this on a trade offer) it sounds very open so if you have old strings and or your guitar isn’t set up, this pedal will be very unpleasant. You can’t get away with it with a klon or a TS circuit but not these. These pedals are also very different than those circuits. I find this pedal works for me (when my deluxe reverb is right before 5 on the volume) on the boost mode with the gain up high tone in the middle volume accordingly. When used with a TS or Klon style pedal it gives you a little more hair to work with and more expression. You will hear more fret buzz if you have it.
I will have to get a Duke because of the intro of this vid XD What were the settings by chance? I have a few gifted pedals from friends last couple years, and a BD2 of my own This sounds amazing
It would be nice if the Duke (and Prince and King) had a little more volume. You have to turn their volume control up to around 3:00 for them to come alive.
One silly question, do you connect your duke of tone to the guitar input on your amp? Or on some other effect input on your amp? Thanks for clarification.. 😊
I have a Prince of Tone. To me it sounds best on lower gain settings (boost or OD) and with the volume set above unity pushing an amp that’s also set a bit loud. It maintains nice clarity and I think it’s all about feel. It’s not my favorite pedal for “bedroom” playing if that makes sense. I also have a Maz 18 and it pairs well with it or my Princeton. Like it more with single coils.
I'm surprised that MXR was able to get their pedal to as high a rank as Duke of Tone. I would have thought that they would have been relegated to a mere Baron of Tone or at most, an Earl of Tone.
Honestly, if this was released before April this year, I would've ditched my waiting list spot for the KoT and bought the MXR instead. I waited four-and-a-half-years for the KoT. Yes, it is still an amazing pedal. But is it worth waiting almost 5 years? IMHO no. Most of the time I only use the OD side of the pedal with a Klone running into it (i.e. before it). So for my use case the MXR would've been perfect. When you turned on the pedal for the first time in the video and it went really quiet at first, I was like "Yep, it's like the original" :)
I got one opf these and found no difference in OD, Dis or Boost... I tweeked and played, other than the small boost when turned on, no matter how I mess with it, its sounds the same across all modes..... I do hear it help other pedals when stacked, yet alone, not getting it.. so what am I doing wrong? Using a Fender Delux Reverb...
Great-sounding pedal! I’ve been looking for something to give me that sort of lower-gain overdrive. My amp (a 2015 Carvin V3MC) has three switchable channels, with one reserved for clean sounds, and neither drive channel will give me anything like what this MXR pedal can do. I think I’ll have to get one.
I've played a Prince of Tone and it is a nice pedal there's no doubt but there are plenty of pedals as good or better at keener prices than the £180ish that I believe the Duke will sell for.
Buy yourself an Echoline Roadrunner and six sets of strings (or even more) and get the same feel and sounds with genuine boutuque credibility... ... and in six months buy one of these. You're right. There's worse hobbies 🙂
There are many clones of the KOT that are just as good in a blind test. This is just a business move to catch some of that revenue. If you're not buying the KOT then just get the most affordable clone you can get your hands on, it doesn't need the branding to do the trick.
Damn this guy’s playing is beautiful. Great tones, too. I preordered and can’t wait for mine to arrive in October!
This is a really cool idea though I personally need another OD option as much as I need a dose of gout.
Don’t knock gout until you’ve tried it. 😁👍

So basically you're paying a ton of money for a King Of Tone to basically do....not much.
Very insightful info.Thank you.
Love Peach guitar videos, so informative, devoid of egos, straight to the point answering all the questions I would have asked. Brilliant thank you

Great to see this being released. Would be interesting to see a demo of the MXR Custom Duke of Tone compared to the MXR Custom Timmy.
This demo made want that guitar!!! Excellent demo!
Absolutely, just hear to watch the playing, he’s amazing.

Fantastic work as always man..best demo yet by far🤘😜🎸🎶❤️...preordered mine this morning... October 1 is what I'm told for delivery to retailers

Excellent review. Really looking forward to this one.

Isn’t there an internal presence trim pot on the Duke? I’ve read some people are able to closely match to the KOT once they tweak the trimpot.
Nice that MXR nailed the trifecta of DOT, Sugar Drive(klone) and the Timmy all in mini pedal format

While I think it sounds great, it's a bit disappointing that it isn't close to unity volume at 12:00. At $149 US, I don't know..
Should have called it the Princess Of Tone and made it Pink Sparkle, I'd have bought two.
I’m waiting for the Jester of Tone!🤡. 😂😂😂😂😎 But seriously folks, great sounding pedal and very well done demo!
Nice pedal. Seems to fit a Tele well, like the Wampler Belle, which is based off the ODR1. Wouldn't use it for anything but low to low medium gain.
Loved the Tom Sawyer outro...Great demo...

Some sweet playing at the 9:00 mark. So tasteful and accented by the tele. Would have sounded killer no matter the pedal really..
any clue on what song is it?
What type of pedal would you add, if the DOT is your base tone, to boost for solos?
it sounds amazing to me.

good with fender amps / bassy guitars at it cuts the bass in a musical way
