Cebu! The mix of both worlds.

This is a very odd time to be advertising Philippines as a retirement destination - when the country is not allowing any tourists, has suspended the SRRV program, and is not even allowing existing SRRV visa holders to return to Philippines even though their homes are there! Sadly these actions speak louder than words.

It's so ashame that the bad guys took advantage of that srrv and now everyone has to suffer. I hope we will see you soon in PH

Well every country has its own rules and regulations that we have to comply. Anyway this is just temporary.

I cannot visit my birth country as I am not vaccinated. I guess the PH only welcomes vaccinated tourists and balikbayans. They want expats to be vaccinated and die in the PH.

Good example of how they will take your money and then not want you.

@@PhilippinesUpdate you won't regret!!!, belongs to the best island magazine for travelers and expats , island hopping is the norm since the city is the middle of the pack, i hope they start building the Panay-Guimaras-Negros-Cebu bridges where it is easier to travel by land, wide road and access to B.I.C. tri-cities within hrs of travel

Medical facilities are poor to very poor to terrible in most of the Philippines (many expats have to return home to get proper treatment or to sort out the mess caused in a Philippine hospital). Prices are now higher than many Western countries (I am currently doing a comparison with someone in the UK and am shocked how much cheaper prices are there, including meats and vegetables, and how much wider the range of foods available there). The people of the Philippines are generally friendly but be very careful not to invest there or give loans... that will VERY likely be the end of your money. But the Philippine government is NOT foreigner friendly and often picks on foreigners to blame for all their problems (caused by their own inefficiencies and unwillingness to take advice from the rest of the world... they think they know it all). If 100 people caused a problem there the government and media will pick out the one foreigner involved and rant on about how foreigners are coming there to ruin their country .... but they are delighted to get foreigners' cash (which by their clever laws on land ownership and inheritance means that almost everything an expat brings to the country will eventually become the property of Filipinos). And never argue with a local - a knife is often drawn or a hit-team will get you. The resulting murder is rarely solved - due to inefficiency and by the fact that the victim is a foreigner and so 'why care'?.

2024 -- Now -- and been looking for my ideal retirement destination - 2 years or so ! --- Tagaytay is where I will begin when I arrive from the US. -- My independant conclusion - and just 'now' saw this video here ! -- Wanted to confirm your choice as being mine as well !!! -- Will be arriving in Manila about this Nov. direct from LAX. -- Can't wait to "feel" it & ''smell'' it. Have some fellow expats who have been there for several years to help me with a "soft landing" - and - 30 days in a furnished air b&b to settle & decompress. Perhaps longer to explore and get acquainted. > The tourist visa is all I want - perhaps give Siem Reap a try - but it's likely too damn hot there ! -?-

Ilocos is great too if you want a laidback kind of life, very peaceful and the people are so friendly. Subic in Olongapo City, Palawan are just some of my choices.
