The opening segment to RE7 for me actually ties with all of Silent Hill 2 as legit scary and I can not play them at night in my house all by myself. Now, Village ties with both of them. I'll never not dread going into Donna's basement whenever I play RE8.
I've never found Resident Evil to be a terrifying game. I've always seen the franchise as an action-scifi-story with horror elements, some games like the first few entries more horror-suspense oriented. This moment right here wasn't just scary, it was downright disturbing.

I agree with you about the fetus being the scariest shit in the whole saga, but this game (that I absolutely love) is filled with jumpscares. Even on this section, when the fetus slams the door open all of a sudden in your second encounter with it (after picking up the fuse)

Not only does it play on Ethan's fears as a father, not only is it far and aware the most disturbing thing from any Resident Evil game, not only does it perfectly break up the action, but it also foreshadow Rose's abilities and the fact that she is definitely not a normal child. Man this game was so fucking good.

But this is on a whole different level. Capcom really know how to scare people. I fucking love this game, one of the best chapters in the saga.

I think it was pretty well designed part for maximizing the chances of the scary moment playing out naturally scary without feeling *too* scripted. The map layout, the lighting, the reaction times, the monster and audio design and the hiding spots were carefully thought out.

What makes it freakier for me is that the baby is evidenced to come out of the Mia mannequin since the umbilical trail starts from there. Meaning while you taking the mannequin apart that baby was just chilling only mere inches away from Ethan's face before the lights went out
It's symbolic of Ethan's obvious fear that something is wrong with his baby daughter and that she might grow to be a monster. The beginning of the game has all these little clues around the house you can find that spell Ethan's fear out for you. This moment is the only point in the whole game where Ethan's panicking, crying and running away because that "Baby" is his greatest fear. The man has no problem going to battle with hordes of Lycans, vampires, a fish guy and cyberpunk horrors but is reduced to a crying mess at the prospect of his child becoming....this.

I just took the biggest jumpscare of my life... and wasn't even playing the game I made myself a playlist on YT called Sleep Beats to, obviously, listen to right before sleeping I found this last evening and decided to put this in the "watch later" playlist bc I do enjoy the scary vibes this track gives Might've misclicked and it made its way to my sleepy tunes . . . It's 4:58 in the morning and it has been around 20 minutes since I had my first legit anxiety attack for hearing this blast all of the sudden mid-sleep 'o _o
Hell man at least it doesn’t include the sounds this abomination makes. God I’d have a heart attack if I heard the start alongside the giggles it makes. Probably would scream. This thing petrified me to the point I didn’t want to play anymore.
What a chad man, I also turned lights off after killing the vampire bitch, because I thought I was brave enough to face anything in the game, then I faced the doll/baby, yisus, how wrong I was...I finished the game with the lights on, just to feel safer

I"m happy to see that Resident Evil 25 years later still continues to scare us, I had cold sweats and chills throughout the entire sequence, I haven't felt such a sensation in years (all medias combined) and this OST is so terrifyng !
Now, I know Heisenberg was like "I'll put on a show that everyone can enjoy." But after THIS PART RIGHT HERE? I SAY DONNA PUT ON A SHOW NO ONE WILL EVER FORGET. ESPICALLY ME! I'll never forget the first time this happened. It woke me up and I didn't even know what to do. I felt actual fear. I paused multiple times because I didn't know what was going to happen, where this fetus was and what I was supposed to do. But eventually, I proceeded, and made it to the bedroom with the fuse box. Now, that was when I sort of knew what was going to happen before it happened, but regardless, I still didn't know what was going to happen. The fear of the unknown is what kept me pausing. I knew as soon as I picked up the fuse, something was going to trigger, and sure enough *LIGHTS OFF* (obviously because of the fuse lol). I hid under that bed, but that was when I realized "Shit... they want me to go upstairs.." That is also when I realized, "This ain't no movie where you wait for the character to move on their own, no. This is a video game. YOU GOTTA DO THAT." And so I did... while whimpering like a baby (ironic lol). Before I made it up them stairs, this big ass fetus bursts the damn door open. Man, I screamed my head off. It's been a while since I screamed like that too. I ran my ass back under that bed too. And that's when things just got worse for me. See, I could of hid in the wooden locker, but I didn't want to see that ugly ass fetus' face, so I hid under the bed. It was also the closet thing for a hiding spot too. So I went under their and oh my god..... sitting through that part was torture. Not only was I playing this in the dark, with my door close. I had good headphones on, and the volume was quite loud. It was literal torture for me, just to not only hide, but hear this thing slowly slither from my right ear to my left ear... I couldn't take that shit. I was tearing up as well. I kept pausing man...then yet again, slowly gained the courage to move out. Walking around that basement, wondering where this thing was, was so nerve wrecking. But I made it to the elevator, put the fuse in and didn't even look back. Made it upstairs and was SO RELIEVED.... I honestly wanted more, but that section was the biggest highlight in the game for me. It made me like Donna and Angie even more, and now they live in my head rent free (Donna mostly). It was like, Donna's artistic way of expressing her self or some shit idk. I do care for Donna, but after what she put me through.....she literally made a tear come out my eye. Being one myself, I gotta tell ya.... It's always the quiet ones man....I swear...she gave scarecrow a run for his money... 10/10 section

Sometimes you can get used to visceral and visual horror. Gore can either disgust you or morbidly captivate you. *Nothing can prepare you for psychological horror...*
The first time I encountered this thing, I was just like "Oh, scary monster, no big deal, let's just run." Then, like a big goober, I cornered myself in the hallway leading to the well. I saw the monster coming at me and was just all "well, let's get this over with" and I let it kill me. That was that. I wasn't bothered by it. ... But then, I tried again. For some reason, and I can't explain why, it was as if the monster had gotten even scarier. I didn't know I could hide in lockers, so I ran to the opposite side of the operating table, where I juked it and ran down the hall to the elevator. My heart was racing. I can't explain why the monster, which I initially wasn't so scared of, was suddenly terrifying. I think I might have been in shock.
The ethereal vocals and deep chords in the calm segments sell this as silent hill level psychological horror. Heavy P.T. vibes. They could have used this music to introduce literally any monster in the dark. These tones facilitate a fear response like none other.
The music, the tension, the suspense, the darkness. What an amazing way to create the perfect horror atmosphere. I don't scare easily, but fuck me this got me.
I enjoyed resident evil 8 however if this whole section weren’t in the game, I’d probably have forgot about it within a few weeks.. Yes, Lady D was really cool but she wasn’t scary to me. This section was amazing and tension filled. So glad it’s in the game.
This soundtrack reminds of me of those genuinely terrifying nightmares you sometimes have, in which you are seemingly stuck in some room or corridor and have to fight or run away from something creepy asf. And you usually feel tired or heavy or even paralysed in those nightmares. Plus, in those nightmares there are always feelings of breathlessness, which makes you wake up with your heart racing and sweat on your face and chest. Those nightmares have some sort of dreamy drained colour pallet which just gives you even more tension. Idk.
The fact that you can only hide and run, it is already really mind pressuring, it was so perfectly done, just getting out the well seeing that red light, you already know you are about to face something that cannot be even describe
I literally jumped so bad I through my controller down and covered my face. Resident Evil is my favorite game series so of course I’ve played them all. This shit gave me nightmares. I’ve never been so scared playing a game. Enjoyed every minute of this part but damn. Every game has scared me good once or twice but this almost made me bow out for a bit.

I was streaming this not knowing what was gonna show up. I turned off the stream cause of the sheer amount of fear. Then when I streamed again. I kid you not. I was sweating like I was in a desert! This entire section of the game made it soooooo uncomfortable to play through multiple times. This was HANDS DOWN 🙌 the SCARIEST moment in Resident Evil History! PERIOD!!

As insane as this seems after actually clearing Resident Evil 8 for the first time this is still by FAR the scariest part of the entire game even the part where you get totaled and told the truth. The Fetus monster nearly broke me in this game but the positive responses I got for playing this game aided me to have the courage to go on. I wouldn't be challenged anywhere remotely this hard until the factory and even that wasn't the same fear factor.

I've beaten this game now 5 times, getting into a 6 play through. And I STILL dread going to Donna Benevieto's house. This baby is THE most terrifying thing that this entire franchise has ever spawned. Frankly, Resident Evil was never scary to me, so much as just disturbing with the inhuman experiments and nauseating from all the body horror. Frankly, the music was always more scary. But this baby is terrifying. More terrifying than the Crimson Heads, more terrifying than Nemesis, more terrifying than the Regenerators, THIS baby is the scariest thing this series has to offer.

I have been playing & surviving resident evil on hard mode for 20 years killing zombies and tyrants throughout the years but this thing made me feel the fear AGAIN since the original 3 resident evils Re1 encountering the zombie open the door RE2 encountering the licker for the first time & Mr. X in B scenario Re 3 encountering nemesis for the first time. RPD entrance.
This monster baby was scary asf, probably the scariest enemy in re history because even on my 2nd playthrough it scared the crap out of me even when I knew what was coming. The mere sight and sound of it is terrifying and way too disturbing.
I think a lot players don't realize that ethan fear of his baby may grow up to be a monster made him hallucinate this horrifying baby fetus.
Finally, someone gets it. This sequence was all in Ethan's head.
But what was chasing him though...? Something must have actually been there. That's the mystery we'll never be able to solve.
So I guess when it swallows Ethan he's really dieing of a fear induced heart attack.

I knew as soon as I picked up the fuse, something was going to trigger, and sure enough *LIGHTS OFF* (obviously because of the fuse lol).
I hid under that bed, but that was when I realized "Shit... they want me to go upstairs.." That is also when I realized, "This ain't no movie where you wait for the character to move on their own, no. This is a video game. YOU GOTTA DO THAT." And so I did... while whimpering like a baby (ironic lol). Before I made it up them stairs, this big ass fetus bursts the damn door open. Man, I screamed my head off. It's been a while since I screamed like that too. I ran my ass back under that bed too. And that's when things just got worse for me.
See, I could of hid in the wooden locker, but I didn't want to see that ugly ass fetus' face, so I hid under the bed. It was also the closet thing for a hiding spot too. So I went under their and oh my god..... sitting through that part was torture.
Not only was I playing this in the dark, with my door close. I had good headphones on, and the volume was quite loud. It was literal torture for me, just to not only hide, but hear this thing slowly slither from my right ear to my left ear... I couldn't take that shit. I was tearing up as well. I kept pausing man...then yet again, slowly gained the courage to move out. Walking around that basement, wondering where this thing was, was so nerve wrecking. But I made it to the elevator, put the fuse in and didn't even look back. Made it upstairs and was SO RELIEVED.... I honestly wanted more, but that section was the biggest highlight in the game for me.
It made me like Donna and Angie even more, and now they live in my head rent free (Donna mostly). It was like, Donna's artistic way of expressing her self or some shit idk. I do care for Donna, but after what she put me through.....she literally made a tear come out my eye.
Being one myself, I gotta tell ya.... It's always the quiet ones man....I swear...she gave scarecrow a run for his money...

Man, this part was so horrifying and awesome with the lights off and by yourself with headphones. I dont know if I'll experience that kind of fear in a video game again.

The first time I encountered this thing, I was just like "Oh, scary monster, no big deal, let's just run." Then, like a big goober, I cornered myself in the hallway leading to the well. I saw the monster coming at me and was just all "well, let's get this over with" and I let it kill me. That was that. I wasn't bothered by it.
... But then, I tried again. For some reason, and I can't explain why, it was as if the monster had gotten even scarier. I didn't know I could hide in lockers, so I ran to the opposite side of the operating table, where I juked it and ran down the hall to the elevator. My heart was racing. I can't explain why the monster, which I initially wasn't so scared of, was suddenly terrifying. I think I might have been in shock.
I heard some people feel fear and terror only after the action, maybe this is why you were not scared the first time.
Someone out there probably forgot to shut the flashlight off while they were hiding in a locker.

The ethereal vocals and deep chords in the calm segments sell this as silent hill level psychological horror. Heavy P.T. vibes. They could have used this music to introduce literally any monster in the dark. These tones facilitate a fear response like none other.
The music, the tension, the suspense, the darkness. What an amazing way to create the perfect horror atmosphere. I don't scare easily, but fuck me this got me.

This section was amazing and tension filled. So glad it’s in the game.
This soundtrack reminds of me of those genuinely terrifying nightmares you sometimes have, in which you are seemingly stuck in some room or corridor and have to fight or run away from something creepy asf. And you usually feel tired or heavy or even paralysed in those nightmares.
Plus, in those nightmares there are always feelings of breathlessness, which makes you wake up with your heart racing and sweat on your face and chest. Those nightmares have some sort of dreamy drained colour pallet which just gives you even more tension.

The fact that you can only hide and run, it is already really mind pressuring, it was so perfectly done, just getting out the well seeing that red light, you already know you are about to face something that cannot be even describe

When I got past this chapter I took a day off from this game it was so fucking disturbing but capcom did a fantastic job.
I literally jumped so bad I through my controller down and covered my face. Resident Evil is my favorite game series so of course I’ve played them all. This shit gave me nightmares. I’ve never been so scared playing a game. Enjoyed every minute of this part but damn. Every game has scared me good once or twice but this almost made me bow out for a bit.

I was streaming this not knowing what was gonna show up. I turned off the stream cause of the sheer amount of fear. Then when I streamed again. I kid you not. I was sweating like I was in a desert! This entire section of the game made it soooooo uncomfortable to play through multiple times. This was HANDS DOWN 🙌 the SCARIEST moment in Resident Evil History! PERIOD!!

As insane as this seems after actually clearing Resident Evil 8 for the first time this is still by FAR the scariest part of the entire game even the part where you get totaled and told the truth.
The Fetus monster nearly broke me in this game but the positive responses I got for playing this game aided me to have the courage to go on.
I wouldn't be challenged anywhere remotely this hard until the factory and even that wasn't the same fear factor.

I've beaten this game now 5 times, getting into a 6 play through. And I STILL dread going to Donna Benevieto's house. This baby is THE most terrifying thing that this entire franchise has ever spawned. Frankly, Resident Evil was never scary to me, so much as just disturbing with the inhuman experiments and nauseating from all the body horror. Frankly, the music was always more scary. But this baby is terrifying. More terrifying than the Crimson Heads, more terrifying than Nemesis, more terrifying than the Regenerators, THIS baby is the scariest thing this series has to offer.

This monster baby was scary asf, probably the scariest enemy in re history because even on my 2nd playthrough it scared the crap out of me even when I knew what was coming. The mere sight and sound of it is terrifying and way too disturbing.
