I've learned more about myself in this lecture than I have in decades. Father Ripperger, where have you been all of my life? Found you about 3 months ago and life hasn't been the same. I see (think) my demons are disappearing, but the most difficult part is keeping them away... the default appetites are so powerful that I, for the firstime in my life, realized what was causing me to be so dumb and stupid. These habitual appetites becomes addictions, almost impossible to shake. Father, you are great and you're helping so many. Thank you for taking us to the threshold of the eye of the needle. What helped me was Dana K White’s decluttering system. It helps people take back their houses one baby step at a time. It is great for those who get easily overwhelmed. First step: look for trash, throw it away. Second step: if you see something that belongs somewhere else in the house, take it there NOW. Third step: if you see anything that is obviously a donation (shoes that don’t fit, yarn that you know you’ll never use, etc.) put it in a “donate-able” donate box. When the box gets full, or just periodically, put the box in the car and take it ASAP to the donation center. Don’t let it linger. Finally, she says “better is good”. So even if all you can do is pick up one piece of trash, that’s good! Because it made your house better. I hope this helps you. It helped me go from a hoarder’s house to almost minimalist. God bless you!

I have to say I am lazy but but I also come home quite tired and it's just too tiring in the evening to accomplish things. Sometimes my work also carries into the evening. I admit I'm one of those people who has a yard that doesn't look great. I discovered I was not a gardener. And now I've got some knee and hip issues and it just exacerbates things. Lot of times I feel like it's an excuse. One thing I am finding helpful for at least cleaning my house and tidying is putting on some headphones and listening to podcasts. And when I'm feeling particularly down, I throw on Father Jim Blount. I always smile listening to his homilies and talks.

I tend to sit and doom scroll YT and dissociate, so I started going to Adoration. I’m so blessed to have a Catholic Church within a 3 minute drive. It’s 24/7 also.
I started going and just being able to sit in silence, it was calming. Then I started the rosary and venerating to Mary. I’ll be starting RCIA in August as well.
It’s only been about a month of going to Adoration. But now I have a permanent Guardian position weekly and I sub for other guardians as well.
It’s been so fulfilling. I minimized things even more, made a simple alter in my room (just last night).
Now I’ve been praying for more discipline and I’m not joking, but I made the dedicated space and I was awake (on my own) at 4:15am and I lit the candles first thing, got my Hallow app rosary routine and prayed first thing.
Before I would make coffee, scroll YT then maybe pray.
After a month of prayer and adoration I can see the changes happening.
I’m even here, listening to Fr Ripperger instead of watching something dull and meaningless.
    Praise Jesus ❤

Yet I now struggle finding the right balance between working and relaxing in the way that I realize I am physically not yet able to work as much as I used to do before the burn out and I often get a bad conscience. But I also get a bad conscience if I rest too much. So I now try to adapt more slowly into working a certain amount of time daily and get used to it before maybe increasing it.
What really helps me is the morning meditation and rosary and the spiritual reading and praying before going to bed.

Everything from dishwashing to working out needed some kind of extra-ordinary motivation that always seemed unusual and out-of-nowhere, and still even with all that work being done for me I was flunking until I got to Seniors. I haven't reached my mid-20s yet but I'm getting very close, and on my end it is very difficult to get every mindset I've had in my life up until now to have a complete overhaul quick enough before every problem becomes irreversable.
I've been looking towards getting into things I would normally not have wished to do years ago, such as (believe it or not), learning how to ride a bike. After a few months, I really looked forward to my morning cold shower because it changed me, physically or mentally, so that my body temp would automatically warm-up at the surface level of my skin and when the goosebumps went away after the first few weeks, my skin would just be red all-over afterwards and felt like it was glowing. This video is a trigger for me because I feel lazy every time I fail on something when I cannot overcome my body. I work a lot a lot at home with kids and outside of the house and that doesn't take stress every month to pay bills because I still don't make enough for just basics!I feel constant pressure from family and others that I don't do enough that I need work more and more. I spend hours under shower hiding and crying that I can't do it like I was in 20s. Many times I'm forced to choose work time over prayer, which makes me only weaker in all. That's the times we live now in, no time for laziness but slavery of working and working for pennies. After so many prayers I tell myself that it is God's will to live that kind of lifestyle.

Here's a prayer you can use:
      PRAYER TO ST. JUDE
Most holy apostle, St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of hope. Please intercede on my behalf. Make use of that particular privilege given to you to bring hope, comfort, and help where they are needed most. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven as I work with my challenges, particularly for the grace of faith, hope, courage and wisdom. I praise God with you and all the saints forever. I promise, blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, to always honor you as my special and powerful patron and to gratefully encourage devotion to you. Amen.

We pray today, Father, that our children and grandchildren would have a strong motivation to work. May they understand that idleness and laziness lead to hunger, want and poverty. Yes, you are their source and provider, but help them understand that you are the source and provider of their work opportunities. You do not specialize in giving free handouts to those who choose to stay home, sleep and watch TV. Work is normal. Work is expected. You called us to be fruitful
Thank you, Father, that our children and grandchildren responsibily respond to your call that we be fruitful in our work. And as they work, fill them with your Holy Spirit. May they not rely upon their own strength alone, but may you be the strength of their lives. In Jesus’ precious Name, Amen!

When you want no part in their problems, they instead revile you for being insensitive to their self-inflicted wounds and complacency. Problems they created for lacking self-control. I cannot sympathize with people who make their own lives hard, when I try to be accountable and responsible for my life.

I have a few friends who have more serious forms of lack of attention to the point where they need to be medicated, and I see their stuggle, so it is hard for me to give advice when they talk about having discipline issues or focusing on something. Some foucs too much on one thing, or everything. The only thing I say is to pray that God helps them overcome their struggle. At the same time, I do know that if they could just put their minds to it with the help of God they can. Because people with ADHD can still funtion and do what they enjoy and so on. I'm going on and on, but I too am confused about how someone diagnosed with ADHD or even ADD would tackle laziness and sloth.

Great lecture, Father, you always provide excellent coaching and teachings that helps the individual better themselves
I have tendinitis, among other places, in both wrists, this in part (not whole) is a result of decades of manual labor. Thanks to TH-cam I've gained some other insights into probable causes (e.g. an excessive focus on muscular development and little to none on isometrics of tendon development, resulting in an inbalance between the 2).
However, and although your lecture is great for the micro, the smallest circle called the individual, observationally and experientially, I have to intellectually conclude hard work in manual labor does not necessarily follow with an anti-poverty wage. Aside from the fact I have labored physically hard for small pay that today few undocumented immigrants in the USA would work for (their ethnic networks are now too robust inside the USA), there are the other dilemmas at the macro level of political-economics.
#1. Mexicans are second to none in hard work in manual labor. Those guys are incredible and especially on the slates residential roofs of shingles. Now that is labor I damn near tremble at doing albeit I have in some novice capacity.
And yet... hard working Mexicans flood to the USA to work. Why? The dollar will exchange for a lot more pesos.
#2. E. Michael Jones lectures that our problem in the USA in terms of finance and economics is usury. Whether or not Dr. Jones is correct best I can deduce it seems to be correct that J_ws and Brits convinced the political leaders of the USA decades ago to shift from a "productive economy" to a "debt based" and "service based" economy. The British aristocracy from what I understand, not the British working class, were masters at say... making the Indians of the colony of India into indebted serfs, thereby enriching themselves through laziness and driving the hard working Hindu Indian into poverty via the vehicle of usury or excessive interests on loans.
#3. Current day USA has an inversion of the morals you espouse. Laziness is the virtue and hard manual labor is the vice. This is the prevailing view among modern Democrats. They believe we need to import Mexicans for manual labor as slave ships once imported black slaves, and that the person born several generations in the USA is only a good guy if he is metaphorically relaxing on his plantation porch, sipping tea or a cocktail, while his Mexican serfs cuts his lawn or comes running to the ring of his bell 🔔, so long as the plantation master is benevolent.
#4. It is possible the libertarians are right that the nature of money, sound or hard vs non-sound or non-hard money, fuels either morality or immorality. Say fiat dollars vs bitcoin or gold. Possibly. I agree with E. Michael jones that neither bitcoin nor gold make for good currency, savable money liquidatable for currency yes, but as national currency to be used with high velocity no. Nonetheless, excessive money printing, a bizarre concept that 1 country ought produce a World Reserve Currency, fuels say... laziness as a virtue in the USA, Mexican Cartels trying to accumulate more U.S. dollars than the Mexican Government, and the United States being flooded by impoverished Mexicans and Central Americans etc. And such mass flooding (abundance vs scarcity of workers) ADVERSILY effects/affects the possibilities and demand for manual labor of the "native" born United Statesian.
The system itself is morally corrupted and incentivises the inversion of all Christian morality, I would argue.

I do value brother Ripperger's perspectives. I am grateful to have seen a couple of dozen or more. Now I haven't heard this whole video, forgive me, but there was a clear declaration early on that laziness is only physical. I find that laziness, and other characteristics good n bad, can also be intellectual and or spiritual. It may extend to all aspects of a man, such as his emotional aspect, I think, but my thoughts on this are incomplete. Also his/your implication is that this is a new trend, as if laziness is a new invention. The latter criticism seems to forever be levelled against a younger generation. If it wasn't said directly it was implied. Please correct me if I misunderstood.

Laziness in Latin root is idleness. An unwillingness to work or use energy; wanting to avoid exertion. Primarily a physical thing but has a concommitance with the will to avoid expending energy. Seeks comfort and take delight in the doing of nothing. An avoidance of the pain of exertion. Laziness contrary to virtue of diligence and magnificence, doing a great thing withing your capacity. People who are lazy will never develop a greatness of soul.Laziness is a sign of a lack of disciple, a virtue if the will, where there is a constant application to do actions necessary to get something done. Will has mastery or control over things that are difficult; lower faculties have to be willing to suffer to get things done.Consistent application of doing what is necessary. Laziness is a venial sin unless there is a grave matter or consequences.
Lazy people are negligent, put stuff off, causing consequences to others. Others have to pick up slack. Laziness is a lack of charity ie leave mess for others . Can cause squalor for themselves or others.
Lazy children become entitled, you owe me something without merit. Become indignant, envious or hateful at other's accomplishments .
To overcome laziness, application of hard work. Engage in hard work, be praised for it and learn value of hard work. Have to set goals not just for money, even in things materially ordered. Engage in charity and zeal. Do this discipline when young; hard to change later in life. Find motivations for hard work.

It's a struggle just to put food on the table and a roof over your head. Family life is near non existant because moms and dads both work 50-60 hours a week just to provide the basics. So no, the lawn doesn't always get mowed weekly.Almost like telling the Israelites they were lazy, and if they just worked harder, they could've had a good life in Egypt.

The constant ragging on two entire generations detracts from this talk. Things are not the same as they were for boomers and early GenX and people said all this about GenX too. I'd bet it was said about boomers by their parents as well, while a large number of them were being lazy smelly hippies in the 60s. "Nobody wants to work" is certainly nothing new.
It's hard for young people now. GenZ is not as dumb as people seem to think - there's been idiots in every generation. Older millennials are in their 40s now so it seems a bit weird talking about them as if they're kids. Plenty of them working their asses off too.

For example he repeats almost every conference to “get yourself a good spiritual advisor” but as far as I know has never once said how they can be done. Sometimes striving for achievement is a Godly thing. I don't think communtarianism is the answer to every spiritual problem - there can be a sense of emptiness in it for some. God has a plan for each person's life and that plan is many and varied, as is God's creation. In Chariots of Fire the main character, an aspiring athlete, says "I feel God's pleasure when I run".
