      Baker Man
      I agree. People tend to focus on his post-Cavaliers career when he gained the weight and really fell off. As if that cancelled out everything he accomplished prior to that. Shawn's Seattle and Cleveland years match-up quite favourably with the careers of Chambers, Webber and Bosh. Damn shame McGrady gets in ahead of any of those four.

Of course I know the names, the stats, and bits of highlights. These type of highlights make me appreciate the 90's even more. It's sort of like experiencing it for the first time and a refresher. Todays NBA is fucking joke. You just need to be tall and be able to shoot 3s. No atheletic abilities needed at all. Just stand around out in the 3 pt line and chuck 3s. Wheres the next vince carter? the next Olajuwon? I want to see athletic players that can do a 360 Windmill in a live game. NBA today is boring as fuck. Just watch Klay Thompson's attempt of a 360 to prove my point.

      If you keep asking yourself, how come he's not like Vince Carter or like Olajuwon, it's because they're DIFFERENT PEOPLE, but all original and leave it that.
      Want you want is to return to the 90s but it's 2017 dude, just in case you don't know you're missing out a new brand of basketball if you keep looking back at what has been. It's okay to appreciate and love it like I do, but I wouldn't use it to bash a new generation.

    Kids these days probably think Barkley is just some overweight guy who talks about basketball. What they don't realize is how much of a beast he was. Triple double this game, played the full 48 minutes. He beat Jordan for MVP this year. This was an era when power forwards didn't stretch 4's or whatever that means and camped out behind the 3 point line. Look at how violent Kemp was when he dunked. It was personal with the rim as if he was trying to break it every time he dunked.

    • @mig50cc
      @mig50cc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Edmond Lau Yup, Barkley was simply amazing. As much of a Jordan fan that I was, I rooted for Charles to win that ring in 93. And I was heartbroken when Stockton hit the game (and series) winning shot in the 97 WCF. But even without a ring I'd take Barkley over just about any player that led their team to a championship, MJ being the only exception and maybe even Tim Duncan. As for Kemp, man was he exciting to watch as well.

    • @NXSProductions
      @NXSProductions 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Charles was the definition of a stretch-4. He was 6'4" tall when--back in those days--the average height of a power forward was 6'10". Though physically, he was built as a stocky 2-guard, his physical ability and mental fortitude made him a force to be reckoned with as a forward. The "Round Mound of Rebound" had heart. Today's league could learn a thing or two from a guy like Chuck.

    • @bubufubu
      @bubufubu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Joohnny23 The Rockets barely got by the Suns in 1995. Barkley didn't let it slip away. The Suns were up 3-1 and Wesley Person had a chance to end the series at the end of the 4th quarter in Game 5, but he missed. The Rockets were bigger in the paint and the Suns, as a team, missed some big shots. Pinning it on Barkley is bullshit. Houston had better defense, were better on the boards, had very quick guards who could shoot well, and Olajuwon. The Bulls lost several games to the Rockets in the early 90's and for the very same reasons.

      You’re really suggesting he was “gone” because of that? You’re completely overlooking the amount of full-on fury he had towards the organisation behind the Jim McIlvaine signing. He couldn’t get it out of his head while aiming for an extension of his own. You don’t recall the 1997 ESPN interview? Please don’t be fooled into furthering the narrative today that the local press whispered back then that Kemp was too drunk to perform at the level he was accustomed to during that series. He gave all to the organisation up to that point, and they repaid him by fawning over McIlvaine instead.

    • @Fakename70
      @Fakename70 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Rodzilla "The mood on the street"? You're just parroting what you were likely hearing on KJR and/or reading in a Steve Kelly or Art Thiel column. I was there, too. And, you're qualified to determine when someone you're watching on TV is "moving like a drunk" or whatever? You don't comprehend very well, as you clearly failed to understand the ESPN interview I referenced was in 1997, not 2019. I don't give a fuck whether or not you watch ESPN, as that wasn't who I was paraphrasing. They merely provided the platform. But, BACK THEN, he stated his case quite clearly as to what was bothering him. The Jim McIlvaine contract. THAT'S why he wanted out.
      If the subject is petulant children masquerading as high-priced Seattle professional athletes wanting a change of address, you need to point the finger at Randy Johnson and the free pass he received from fans and Seattle media at the same time as the Kemp-Sonics situation was happening. It wasn't Kemp rolling around on the ground and grappling with his teammate in the dressing room because he didn't like what was being played on the boombox.
      "The mood on the street". Yeah, it sounds real convincing when you say that.

      Malone developed a better skill set during the Finals run and the pick and roll with a true pg throughout his career made him great. Barkley did everything once Dr. J retired and Moses left. WRONG!!
      It was "less" skill back in the day, cause players HAD to play dirty to stop others from scoring/dribbling because they feared getting their ankles broken from getting crossed and scored on.
      Players were too chicken shit to square up and defend other players the correct way, cause they didn't have the eye, hand, and foot speed to keep up!

      Totally agree, the individual talent was higher back then, a guy like Barkley was unusual, I mean we took him for granted some what because of Jordan, Bird, Magic and everyone else, but he was just an amazing unique player to watch, so dominant at times, doing everything, yet physically he was not as gifted as others.

      I can quote dozen of interviews of older players talking about how much more skilled newer players are at an earlier age. The latest was Paul Pierce talking about jason Taytum or Nowitzki talking about porzingas being more developed than they were. Skill in the NBA tends to progress.

    When young kids start mouthing about elite 90's teams can't keep up with "bigger, faster and stronger" teams today. I'd always say take a look at the Sonics or Pheonix or Bulls how fast they can score on offense. And Lebron won't be able to dominate the likes of Barkley and Kemp who are just as strong and fast as him.

    • @xXEliminatorXx99

    • @mikjord
      @mikjord 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lebron does not have the stamina and the mental toughness to strive in the 80's and 90's NBA. Allowing hand checking and physical contact to avoid the opponent to get: first the ball, and second his favourite position to score. It takes a lot of energy to get rid of your defender that is grabbing you and get to the crowded basket in the eminence of getting bumped, with no whistle, trying to score. Nowdays Lebron (and others "superstars") get the ball, with no effort (because you can not put a finger on the opponent), gets a moving screen from a team mate and walks (travels and palm the basketball) towards the unprotected rim and slam's it like he was superman. Wow! He travels we all the room in the world to manouvre gets the easiest points and he's rewarded with a phantom call (because someone snnized while he was travelling towards the rim). And that's how the NBA sell's its product. Heavily advertised by the media who convinces the uneducated fan that the current NBA era is the new Coca Cola.
