    Thank you for a great video! I used to live in Madrid and it's a wonderful city, and Spain, too, for that matter!

    Nice video. I’m an Aux too, 1st year. It’s fun and my school is great. Unlike some, I don’t prepare lesson plans. Just assist teacher and students with pronunciation, help teacher with working individually with students and the lessons. Luckily, I’m older and don’t need extra income. Lots of free time and am much healthier than when I was in corporate life. Lots of exercise and Mediterranean diet, dropped substantial weight, almost zero stress in my life here. If this is your only source of income, it could be difficult. But private lessons can help a lot if money tight, as long as you’re in a larger city. I encourage anyone who wants to give it a go, to do so. There are numerous Aux Facebook Groups. Everyone has a different experience and the disgruntled post a lot.

      Thank you! I'm a slightly older aux too, but teach private lessons just for the extra money. It's not every day afternoon though. When I did the program a few years back, I didn't really feel like I needed to living in a smaller city, but in Madrid, it's nice to have a little extra income.
      As for what you said about the program and change of pace from the US, I 100% agree and think it's something everyone should do. Most of the negative posts about it are more disgruntled people, and there are more positive experiences than negatives ones.

    Wait so are the private classes part of your main job or is this an extra offering you do? That’s a long day!

      The private classes are extra. We do them on the side to make some extra money. Some days we have a lot, but other days, we don't have any, like Fridays, which means we're done at 2!

    Lovely clear and informative day in the life! Is it hard to find tuition work, how should we prepare to find it I have never been an aux and plan to do it in 2023 and apply end of this year, so I want to be prepared when the time comes. And also, is it hard to find apartments for only 9 months rather than 12?

    • @MYTravelBF
      @MYTravelBF  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching and congrats on thinking about moving to Spain as an aux! It's not very difficult to find lessons to teach on the side. Most of my classes came from students at my school or from postings on tusclasesparticulares.com, which is similar to Craigslist.
      As for the 9 month apartment rental, it's not too difficult. Most people rent rooms instead of a whole place. However, in Spain most contracts are a 6 month minimum with a month-to-month contract after that, and you just have to give a notice 1-2 months before you move out.
      Let us know if you have any other questions!

    If I heard you correctly, the metro pass is more restrictive the older you are? Why is that?

    • @MYTravelBF
      @MYTravelBF  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. If you’re 26 or older it’s €54.60 per month for only zone A, which covers the majority of the city. If you’re younger, it’s €20 and you can travel to any zone for that. Luckily, €54.60 is still pretty cheap compared to other monthly passes on other transit systems!

    Hello! How was your experience taking your pup to Madrid? Was finding an apartment difficult? How did you navigate this? I am applying and have a pup that I can’t leave behind!

    • @MYTravelBF
      @MYTravelBF  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It wasn't too difficult taking our dog! We just needed to do some paperwork, of which some specifically had to be complete within 14 days of arriving in Spain. Luckily, a vet nearby was super helpful in getting it all done. Once in Madrid, finding an apartment wasn't difficult because of the dog, but rather it's a competitive market in general. It's a little more challenging if you want a furnished place, but since dogs are pretty common in Spain, it wasn't that bad. Let us know if you have any other questions!

    I enjoyed this video. I'm thinking about applying to the program this year. Is the job hard? How can I prepare to become an assistant, without having prior experience?

    • @MYTravelBF
      @MYTravelBF  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The job isn't too difficult as you're assisting a teacher in the classroom. Your role can vary a bit by school though, which makes preparing for a specific role a little difficult. The best way to prepare for being an assistant in Spain is once you get your school placement (probably in early summer), is to contact them and ask what grade levels/classes you'll be working with. From there, you could start to gather some photos of your life or maybe tactile things you could bring to show the students, especially if it's with younger kids. Learning a bit about life in Spain is helpful too as it will lessen the culture shocks once here. Being able to speak at least some Spanish will help you get settled in and meet more friends too! Let us know if you have any other questions! We're happy to help!

    Hi! As someone who is also in my late twenties (I will be 27 when I start next fall), I was wondering if I will be on the older side as an aux?

    • @MYTravelBF
      @MYTravelBF  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! You'll probably be older than a fair number of auxes, but not by much at all. I first did the program 25-27 and am doing it again now at 33. Both times, I've been able to meet other auxes my age and older. Don't let you age stop you from doing it, if it's something you want to do! You can always make the experience your own regardless of age.

      @@RoviViloria I wouldn't worry much about age at all! There are so many things you can get out of this experience, and you can really make of it what you want. Chances are, if you're older, you will probably get something different out of it than someone just out of college. The biggest challenge is really learning to live on a lower income if you had been working for a while in the US making more money. Do you know which region you're headed to next year yet?

      I could cycle it, but there's not great bike infrastructure here in Madrid on that route. Plus, I don't have a bike right now. According to Google it would take roughly 50 minutes though.
