Used to think the same of the WLP trucks but as noted above, our Canadian funny money isn’t worth a lot anymore. Won’t get into why cause I think we can all figure it out. 😂
Lots of trucks including my full-size rock crawler ranger have leafs and adjustable coilovers or air shocks. I run a 63” Chevy leaf spring with my aFe 18” nitrogen air shocks(which are also springs) to compensate for trail gear, cooler etc. lots of people do this. 4Runners will squeeze coils between the leaf and Frame using the bump stop to center it. It happens a lot in performance vehicles.
You got to admit this is better than WPL Jimny and D62/64. A bit of modification, and it will outperform the other ones. They have to sacrifice something to keep the prices reasonable but they sacrificed the right stuff that is easy to remedy. I really love my MN78 with the mods i made on it and i think this will be a close second or even first. The bones are good, the proportions are right, the battery is at the right location, the suspension can be tuned/upgraded, electronics can be easily upgraded, tires can be upgraded. I think this is really good, even of you leave everything stock, it's a solid beginner's rc truck. WPL could learn a lesson or two from MN
True that, the MN looks better than the WPL, also better control now with the MN82, They sacrified on the through hole parts soldering, solder blobs and janky solder points, had to go over lots of them
MN is intended for a very good RTR, because small modifications are enough. Meanwhile, WPL needs a lot of upgrades to reach the word adequate, especially considering that the WPL C74, which is the opponent of the Mn82, has entered 1/10 scale.
For faded paint effect, keep the sunburned spots on the surfaces facing up, such as the roof, hood, top of fenders and bed (where the sun has been beatin' on it). I like the M2 and gunner out back though.
Remove upper steering arm, sand off about a half mm, screw arm back to servo but this time on the hole furthest, put it all back together, enjoy about a 50% steering increase
The edit you did wit the radiochatter etc was great, car looks great too so the weathering worked out well.. But love the thematic part of the video for sure, keep the great job up mate!

They might as well be giving it away. I'm gonna mount an FPV camera, a bunch of scale accessories, and drive it around the house since theres so much snow outside. It's gnna be so much fun. It's nice to see a positive review of something so cheap, too many people would have criticized it for not having all the bells and whistles completely forgetting the facr it's bargain basement and a great place to start in the hobby if you haven't a lot of spare cash or your unsure whether it's for you or not. I got two cheapies before the big spend (for me), have painted the first two and now making an aluminium custom body for the other one. Not sure about the black but understand it's a test for your later build, and it's only paint, plenty more colours out there, important thing is to enjoy what you do and have fun doing it, Greetings from sunny Scotland 😊.
For the price you really can’t complain. A WPL C24 is $54 on Banggood for US buyers anyway. I don’t know what upgrades this one has available but there are a few for the WPL. It kinda makes me want to get either one and go nuts on it just for kicks.
I have a few mn and wpl models and I almost never use them, to me it's more like a motorized scale model and for that price it's really hard to beat. Maybe you could find a model kit for around the same price, die cast models don't even bother to look, and they're static, I'm sort of in love with them and even I find it silly but it doesn't matter because I'm a silly guy and I llike it 😄
Nice to see the coil front (predominantly) leaf on the rear and 5 lug rims. Marks for attention to specification. And yeah, watching 70 series on the tracks, the suspension isn't great, they are very awkward.

While it's not my cup of tea, I'm sure there are plenty of folks who do appreciate it. -- For me I tend to feel it fails as a model and as an RC ... but again I am trying to keep in mind that FMS "model RCs" start at more than twice this price. I guess I just feel the price jump is justified for a better product. -- I would love to better appreciate from those that are excited by this vehicle ... why they are.
MN do make a 6ch receiver/transmitter for cheap but you'll have to pair it with an ESC/BEC, I plan on doing a brushless outrunner and a Blheli_s ESC :)
Hm actually I looked up the V3 RES, for the money you'll be better off with a DumboRC X6FM+receiver of choice unless you must have the sound effects lol

Cheap, nice Toyota bodyshell and drives well. That´s why I have bought one too. Arrived today and I´m happy with the stock model. I will buy the $50 all metal kit to make it perform even better. You rat look paint scratching did not worked well. You get better results in weathering with an airbrush.
Mn82 is 1:14, chinese "my friend" cheating as always. Have one mn82 too is nice on basic set with only Better Angle Drive (screw moved one level lower on servo). This truck love heavy weight load around 600-800gramm on middle and back.
Perhaps predictably, I like the look you went for, Phil. I'd seen this truck and was considering asking for it for Christmas as a platform upon which to build something else. I'm glad you mentioned its small size - I realise now that it won't do for my build. I still quite want one, though, just to make a technical.

For some reason yours stock has the steering link mounted to the top screws of the servo, more torque but limited angles as others have noticed, mine came installed in the 2nd hole, unless it was the seller's doing
When ever you get the chance. You should try MNM's newest Kit model. MN111. It's a big game changer. It's a little more expensive than the rest of their models tho.
It has the same gearbox as the MN78 which is a favorite of mine. The motor is weakish but still capable. You can find a motor adapter plate to install a 370 motor in it.
Your content has convinced me you dont have to spend a ton of money on an RC car to have a ton of fun building and driving it. I meam im still gonna buy expensive ones too, but now I'm looking at cheaper stuff too when I never did before.
The weakness of this RC is that the chassis is plastic so that if you look at it from the side there is a body curve that forms. between the tailgate and the cabin looks bent... the rest is very good...
Maybe the weathering would have been easier while the paint was a little damp still? Still looks pretty sweet. Would be more of a display model for me rather than an RC I would plan on actually using.
50$ trail truck is a steal if it moves at all lol wheels are more than that for a 1/10 scale. Im not a crawler guy at all but i do have a couple scx24s i scored at swap n shop for 10$ each rtr and new. The kids like them. But there not waterproof so they just sit alot. I had 6 at some point lol paid i think 50 for the lot. Many i sold for about 40 to 60$.
I wonder if it'd do donuts if you moved the battery to the back? The front weight is realistic (where an engine would be) but it seemed to cause a lot of understeer. I can see a lot of modding potential with this kit!

This controller is to be held with the left hand and can even be used to drive one handed with that little finger plate on the wheel. I have tried it today with my left hand, although I prefer to steer with the right hand.

That crawler needs lots of metal upgrade to make it look more of a hobbygrade i got the latest of this the supertourer that one has a good body and the details too, like i said just need lots of work on metal parts also need to make the board waterproof and upgrade the motor like everything almost 😆🤦
The first thing I thought when you took it out the box was, same colour as his Hilux. Your work on this little truck looks prettyt cool. I dunno, it seems the line between toy and hobby has gotten a little blurred recently.
Toy grade just means it was never intended to get spares or upgrades for the rc, and has non proportional steering (100% left or right steering only, no in between)

pretty damn good for that price! Try hair spray or chipping fluid on your silver base coat before the black top coat to get the worn look

I ordered this red one. I found a alloy kit with wheels and axles. Alloy links and 2 shocks (front) for around $41. I will be ordering it.
You can get oil dampen shocks and also portal axles but more $$ haha
Red oxide paint,,, put some drops of water here and there,, put some salt on the water,, paint,,, knock of the salt,,, gives a good rusty, crusty look

Given that this is 1/16 not 1/12 as advertised, that means that you could upgrade it with WPL v3 electronics and metal parts.

The WPL C54 is the one to get, then upgrade with a hobbywing esc, 2 speed gearbox and metal diffs etc and you have an epic crawler for not alot

Cheap can also get expensive, I think I spent 5x over in parts, tools and whatnot to upgrade this little guy hahahha
Axial scx24 can get expensive in upgrades, looking more into such, fixes any bad surprises

How's the performance compared to mn78? Both basically have same 280 motor & gearbox.
MN82 have better low end/less cogging, new ESC/motor driver/receiver, SA8336 capable of 7A continuous vs 5A on the previous TA6586 driver IC

You'll have to cut off lots of the plastic, this one doesn't have a metal frame chassis and a flat bottom lol

Toy grade just means it was never intended to get spares or upgrades for the rc, and has non proportional steering (100% left or right steering only, no in between)
