- Hello everybody!
I’m super excited to announce, that from now on I will be a part of prog-death-metallers OBSCURA.
I’m at a point in my musical career, where I tend to say, that the countless hours in my rehearsal room are finally starting to pay off. Especially over the last five or six years, applications from bands and musicians continuously got more professional and collaborating with those artists all helped a lot to improve my drumming skills and to grow as a musician.
So being asked to join them was definitely a dream come true!
I will do my absolute best to recreate Hannes’ and Sebastian’s parts in the context of our live performances but most of all, I’m looking forward to write new material with such outstanding musicians!

Big congrats on joining Obscura, man. That's really cool.
I'd love to know how you get on with learning Sebastian's drum parts. Some of them sound really hard.
Sebastian's parts are on point, and that's it, he just played his roll in the band, nothing more than that. He's probably a really really good composer, but I'm pretty sure he was limited by Stephen. This right here was written by Hannes Grossman himself, which makes it the hardest part when it comes to play Obscura. I mean, we are talking about a guy that comes from Necrophagist, Alkaloid, Blotted Science and much much more. That should be the right question. How are you dealing with Grossman's parts? Absolutely, no offense and no discredit to Lanser, he did an amazing job, great beats, super clean and tight, but you gotta admit there is a huge sound gap in the drums amongst Dilivium or Akroasis and the old classics that put Obscura on the map, like Cosmogenesis or the amazing Omnivium. Just my opinion though.
@@fractalized3 I love both drummers,but personaly if i had to cover one if them it would be Hanns, because shit sebastian's druming is so "all over the place" and unpredictable that makes it ways harder (in the positive way). I personaly prefer Sebastian but i give the win to Hans when it comes to stamina and speed and keeping up with such, something that im sure the new drumer can keep up
@@jordan.na.dzielni My man, i totally get it, and as I said, i do respect his work, he's an amazing player, and I'm probably being nostalgic about this. I just never digged Sebastian's drums that much, but you can totally note the diference when it comes to punch and weird shit, although, Sebastian has some really really difficult stuff, very complex structures. But, dude... Come on, Septuagint is a good example of what I'm trying to explain here. Maybe is just how they have mixed their albums through the years, or the riffs now are a little bit more chilled ot smth idk,
I'm just saying SOMEONE, didn't let Sebastian Lanser show his full potential (Think about it, you have a band, and suddenly, the fucking 75% of the band quits to form another project, including the drummer, dude, something is definitely wrong there), and Grossman's drums are a fist in da face.

That's the same shit i thought when i heard Diluvium. NOT BAD! I'm not saying it was bad, I mean, you could never get bored or have enough out of this guys, Am i right? BUT, for a band such as Obscura, imo they need someone with full stamina and straight tight drums like Grossman did. OR in this case, like David Diepold who has an incredible technique and his second fucking last name should be "Stamina"
@@jordan.na.dzielni That is exactly what I thought, you can actually feel that jazzy vibe in those albums! And I was wondering that same thing you just explained, thank you for sharing that detail. The fact that their sound, is always jazz-oriented in some ways, explains a lot!

@@Hip-Gnosis1134 i'm saying hannes' blast beat is way better than diepold's. Also I think hannes was way more creative, diepold wasnt the right choice for a band like obscura, he would do much better in something like nile. Completely agree with what you said
It's nearly impossible to play with the fluidity and caress that Hannes had on their early material, and this performance doesn't quite get there (it's like 90%,) but if anyone can get close, David is definitely it. David absolutely kills on the newest Obscura album, and sounds far more natural, since they're the parts he wrote himself, but anyone trying to mimic the precision and jazzy fluidity of Hannes is already shooting for the moon, so it's nothing to hold against a man
Man...we are pretty sure this new lineup will kick ass!

On thing i notice is the sound volume on the blast beats....In my opinion they sound not good/hard.
Yeah, I think his 'French grip, finger pull blasts' are much more powerful and audible! Like in his video 'Foreboding Impasse' by Cognizance!

After watching this video many and many times over this past two years i just noticed a PARANORMAL ACTIVITY within the ride SABIAN cymbal on the right side.. Actually if you notice well at the minute 1:36 and look at that ride you can see the SABIAN logo showing at the front, and then at minute 1:42 it disappeared.. knowing that he didn't hit that ride between 1:36 - 1:42 and the ride itself can't turn around the stand axis automatically because the cymbal is tilted a bit forward like the chinas above and also gravity doesn't allow that to happen.
Same thing, try to check minute 2:00 and 2:04

The technicality is superb as always, but some of the drum arrangement is a bit "ehm" and fluidity of the tension and release of this song is not as good as the previous drummer, but i hope the next Obscura album will be great with your presence, congratulation!
