EXACTLY what I'm fighting. Looked online to see what type of coating I could use (silicon, grease, etc...) to prevent that tower from sticking to the bottom seal. Instead, I find this to inform me the deformed seal is the root cause. I've been dealing with this for about a year now. Thanks for the great info!

Thank you for this informative video! I thought I needed to replace the entire flush valve tower to fix the problem! This saved me a ton of work!

Thanks for the video, it helped out since I never changed one of these seals before. One thing though the seal is only suppose to go around the fist groove and not all the way to the bottom. The tower won't seal good and reason why it seems like the tank isn't filling up quickly.

Make sure you rotate the seal 360 degrees so it fully seats on the first grove- turning it kinda like a steering wheel. mine would not seal until i did that.

Holy crap. I've been dealing with a phantom flush for weeks after installing a new valve assembly and I just HAPPENED to see your comment on one of the 50 videos I've watched. I think it may have solved my issue. We'll see. Thanks!

Turning the old flush valve seal upside down might also work temporarily until you get a replacement.

Perfect. This was exactly what I needed to know after spending 20 minutes on other videos.

I installed the brand new flush valve seal the exact same one you used in the video per your instructions and also some of the comments to make sure I didn't go past the first notch from the top. And now with the new seal installed I do see very minut trickle of water continually coming down from the tank into the bowl so I unfortunately had to resort to using my old flush valve seal and lo and behold the problem stopped unfortunately it's still very difficult to flush the toilet due to the suction. Going to have to research this some more unless somebody has some advice.

Once the rubber (black) seal underneath the flush valve (red) seal gets too deteriorated, it must be replaced also. This may be causing your leakage. At some point, all the bowl components must be replaced. Mine are about 18 years old and getting very close.

Those valves make me nervous. TBH, I usually find a way to prop the float up. Ya, that has risks also.

What are the diameters of the rubber valve seal, inside and outside diameter? Thank you for the video.

Why isn't the tank filling up though in your video? My tank flushes easy too when it's empty, but once it filled up, very hard, my handle hot twisted pressing it down to flush, New handle same hard to flush.

Did u firgure it out? You will need to replace the valve seal. It gets hard when tank is full due to water pressure.

I had a feeling that our handle was going to break bc it does this so I told my husband and he broke it on accident 🙃 so thank you for sharing so we can both learn a lesson and fix it together 😂

Do you want the seal "all the way down", or do you want the seal to fit in that grove? Your words don't really match your actions.
