Fascinating.
Been collecting coins & metal detecting well over 40 years now and never knew this.
Must have found a fair few 1920 ones in the past.
All sold now.
I also have 1920 one coin
I from Malaysia I have coin 1903,1919,1921
and this is why this 1920 deserved it's own upload rather than the middle of a 999 penny hunt, fascinating CP I will revisit again tonight when I get home for a forensic watch
I've just accidentally found your video. Although I'm not a collector, I still have a lot of old pennies. Over fifty years ago, my brother and I used to play a form of five-a-side shove ha'penny except with a sixpence. We used old pennies as our "players".
All the coins are somewhere in my attic.
Thanks so much for reigniting my interest in coin collecting, dormant since childhood. I have a large collection of old British coins, kept safely in a wooden case with a brass lock, made so beautifully by my dear dad, each coin in a plastic pouch. Going to enjoy these dark winter months going through each coin section, relating each time to your very interesting video series - a veritable bible for eager novices like myself. Cheers! 👍

Interesting video about the 1920 penny, obverse 2&3. Collected loads of coins when I was young and have been looking through them recently. I know I have a few 1920 pennies so will have to have a look, I know one of them has an 'x' stamped in it
This is a great video, you are thorough in explaning the exact error. Very good. There are some videos that let us figure out the error. If it even has one.

I've got several notes that I found interesting but my most unusual is one that has a distinct manufacture flaw.
I have an obverse 3 1920. I was looking through my old coins and was checking the values on Google and after seeing this video and comparing it to a different 1920 penny I realized it was an obverse 3. Thanks

I didn't know about value, I always thought " it was only one penny with value 1933."
From now on I will look at penny's in a different way .
I'm sure, I came across a collection of old pennies glued to a piece of plywood from 1860 till 1967 of course there was a hole in the 1933 one,
I thought complete collection like that they will be very common and probably worth a £1 for the entire collection ,

Hi, thanks for making such nice and informative videos. I don't collect specifically these coins but I have few of them from batches of mixed coins. Among them there is a penny from 1862, Queen Victoria, with interesting error on the reverse. The flag of the ship is running all the way until the beads of the border. I suppose that it is a die crack error. Have you seen or know about this error variety?

Colon points to tooth after imp for 1920 rarity 19 !, never found one to date checked 1000,s as well but have a 1903 open penny, check 'streaky' 1920 pennies the lower 2 is sometimes different also. 'the bronze coinage of Great britain' is the best book available for Farthings, half pennies and pennies. use jewellers glasses as well they are exellent.

when I was growing up in the 50s and 60s I was always on the lookout for a 1933 penny. I was told it was very rare and worth a lot of money. Never found one.

@@CoinPatrol I went to a market recently and picked up a 1919 penny for 10p. I thought it was the common one, but when I got it home and I put it under a magnifying glass, I saw the letters KN.........

For many who trade in pennies only look for key dates then sell them again
there's a very clear difference on the patterns of the teeth on the wheel also

My comprhension probably isnt very good, because I still dont know what coin is meant to be rare and how to identify it because you cover rather a wide spectrum of descriptions as you go along from one to another. Please can you tell me would the potential valuable coin is. Does it have 1920 on it and if so what else does it show to identify that its the rare one. ? Im really not sure. thank you

I didn't hear you mention the flaw on the '2' that is sometimes seen on the 1920 coin or the off-centre reverse on 1920 (and 1921) pennies - your coin does show a bit of the woodgrain effect though, possibly? Not sure how common the other attributes are found on the coins, tbh! 👍🤓
Hi CoinPig, Yes, so many variants and errors on the pre-decimal pennies. I don't ever think I'll run out of video ideas. As for the woodgrain affect, I think Kings Norton Metal Works were responsible for that. Still researching it though.

Hi David. Obverse 2 is the common type used on pennies from 1913 till 1920.

My husband had a Big Jar of Coins ..Pennies .. halfpennies .silver coins going back 1890" - 1970s ..he kept them.in the shed ..a few years ago i had a good clean in the shed ..i dumped the Jar with the coins in the garbage bin ..

Looking at an old 2005 Coin Yearbook the mintage figures are just over 35 mill for 1920 and 28 mill for 1921.

Ok, what I see isn't a greater distance, it's that the 3s have slightly thinner lettering.
