Just found your channel. Great work Dave on the restore. Could not agree more, the open top Targa's not only a better build but pure fun to drive with family and friends! Makes for many fond memories
Another well chosen drive, and not just because I have one despite not being a hairdresser. Grin. Some would argue that the prior generation was more direct and "pure" due to lighter weight but the '74s are a bit more planted, so a bit of a trade off.
For the purists, it’s the first 500 light-weight steel bodied 2.7RS tourings that are revered .. of course not as much as a lightweight but they’re very rare.
The thing about the 2.7RS is it’s drivability & feedback near the limit .. & small things count at that point .. overall weight & where it’s carried. Targa’s are generally heavier and where you don’t want it. Mon sunroof coupes n light F models always the popular formula. At the end of the day, it might just be bragging rights as opposed to being meaningful in the real world .. but these are Porsche people were talking about …
What bumper did you put on this? It’s of course not the original because the lower lights are removed but I love it! Looking for a new front bumper for my 1974 Carrera Targa but don’t want to devalue it with aftermarket bumper. Great video! Thanks
In the Australian market the this is the correct bumper and lower valance for a 1974 Carrera. The ducktail cars never had a lower lip spoiler or lights on the front Valance like some of the post 1975 Carreras. - Dave.
@@TheMotoristsTV Interesting. Of course each market is different. Here in US we go jipped on the motor and should have had the 73 RS motor in the 74 carrera, but instead got a 185hp 2.7. In the US market we have the fog lights on the front, like my car has. Love it clean looking. I might change mine because I am never selling it having been in family for coming up to 50 years.

Six little German men with cans of petrol. bloody funny. :)
That was funny!
934/935 wasn’t around in ‘74 .. but it’s true Porsche achieved much GT racing success and recognition with G body variants of the 911.
Great video guys. I have subscribed!

❤️❤️❤️
Great film guys other than reminding me that you could pick a good one of these up for £30k in the U.K. back in the 90’s 😕

Do you know Monty Mufflers? I need a muffler for my car and they are highly regarded out of Australia
