i like how jay never edits out the real world stuff, like the clutch mistake around 19:50 and in another vid they show one of the gopros falling off the car and getting run over. most channels would edit that stuff out and have special location shots and carefully chosen wardrobe, etc. this is just cars, no bullshit, in jay's garage. great channel.
Why are all these kids in the comments looking for every reason to pick these videos apart? These cars are dope, the guy is kinda dry, but clearly loves what he does. Jay is always the same so I don't know why it surprises people. This was a cool video and I'm glad these cars are out there getting driven.
I really like Marlon's design ethos on these cars. Very functional and simple without over-wrought detail - it seems he lets the cars be what they are at a basic level.
The best part of this video is at 19:54 when Jay grinds the gears, and apologizes, they didn't edit it out. Also, the sound of that blue car when he gets on the freeway is beautiful.
Nice video. I had a '74 Carrera, and of course regret ever selling it. We saw Jay perform recently at an outdoor summer concert at the Biltmore here in Asheville. He started right on time and did 90 minutes of non-stop funny. I laughed the whole time. We are so lucky to have Jay and his love of cars. Bravo, Jay!
Rarely am I motivated to write about anything, but just a quick note to say thank you for all the programs you post. A talented host, presenter and comedian without question, but first and for most a real no nonsence car guy. The Resto Mod's are a particular favourite, not something that happens in the UK much, absolute sticklers for originality. I have a small collection, race cars mainly including Graham Hill's 1973 Embassy Shadow DN1 Grand Prix Car currently having a ground up rebuild after a little off I had a Zandvoort. Once again many thanks and if you're ever in the UK you're more than welcome to visit.
One of my all-time favorite cars. Never owned one, but got to drive a '74 and it was the nicest handling car I ever drove. The balance was so spot on it made driving effortless. These days I drive a poor man's Porsche - a '65 Chevy Corvair. Vairy fun!
I actually love the 74 bumper. As I was growing up, my dad owned one of only 195 or so of the 2.7 Duck tail, Carrera Targa’s in the US that year. It was his daily driver for years and I have tons of fond memories in that car. From him driving me around my paper rout on cold, snowy Sunday mornings, to him “burning exhaust build up” while speeding to Grandma’s house on the open road....the top packed neatly away in the frunk so my little sister and I could fully experience wind in our faces at 130 mph. (No worries though, we were safely lap-buckled into our jump seats.) Good times! Unfortunately, the car met a said demise as thieves stole it from a parking lot in Phoenix in 1990. It was eventually found dismantled and parted out. Dummies!!
i owned a 911 once. I really enjoyed the mechanical feel it had. I may never own another but I can watch a well presented video such as this and drive vicariously. I enjoy the videos Jay does. Wonderful. And, quite a few are on Porsche, my favorite automobile.
Dear Mr. Leno, I really love your videos and the things I have learned from them, witch is a huge amount, more then any other source. But I am so sorry for the horrible comments that people leave. I agree! I remember seeing it in a couple restoration blogs. Would love to hear the story on that. I believe he said it was a doctors and he bought it from the widow. Also I wonder if Jay has a Singer Porsche?
I read some of the comments, lots of assholes dissing a really good person. Get a grip. There is not one of you that have not missed a shift. I do not care who you are.
Lol, actually I can't ever remember having done "lathe work" in a car, however if we expand the pool to include tractors with non synchro boxes yes I have, many times. Anyway, my only comment to people when they do it is "shouldn't be doing metal lathe work without safety goggles". The only way to keep something without wear or damage is to never use it, which is stupid.
I think this is one of most gorgeous 911 models ever. I like the one with the small rear-lights even more, but this looks seriously beautiful. The Miami blue is in my opinion the best color for any 911. New or old.
There truly is nothing more wonderful in life than driving a air cooled 911 Porsche, l owned a 1988 SC , I just love the feel the sound the relationship the driver gets with these wonderful automobiles ,it's now in the hands of my good friend Jay Lloyds in Ontario, a Porsche restoration air cooled master mechanic, if you are ever in the Toronto Mississauga area very close to the Toronto Pearson airport drop in and see him he truly is a wonderful book of knowledge and awesome human being . I have always wanted to own a 911, even since I was a young man and I just turned 67. I've had 3 Pontiac GTO's in the past, so I'm familiar with high performance American muscle cars. I had to get rid of the '68 since I owned it in the early '70's and the oil embargo sent gasoline prices sky high, so on a student's budget I just couldn't afford to drive the gas hungry car,and it drank LEADED PREMIUM! But I've always wanted a 911. There was just something about the prestige and mystique of it that had captivated me. Hats off to the owner(s) of them. I'll bet they're a blast to drive!
mark KAO Did you look at traffic elsewhere on the road? It's LA drivers.. all close quarters at speed.. it was nutso as the norm when I worked down there...
mark KAO: I think it's Jay trying not to get separated from the filming vehicle. You occasionally see a glimpse of a white SUV with the passenger side back window out and a camera sticking out it. About a dozen vids ago or so.

Really? The guy is a car geek to the nth degree! Answering with complete knowledge that is much deeper than 99% of Porsche owners. Wow. I've seen multiple instances of dangerous driving in the background of this footage. Is it customary on US highways to perform lane changes while not maintaining any sort of a safe distance to the car in front or behind you?
Very good video the guy really knew his stuff any question Jay asked he knew, you could tell Jay was very impressed, probably have all his Porches now serviced there and probably buy one of these rebuilds..
Jay is LA’s super star. We all love to see him out driving his amazing cars. I’ve had my Black 83 911sc Targa turbo tail since 85. Great cross country, deserts and mountains. Has never broke down. On 2nd clutch pack. I’ll take it to the Philippines upon retirement ❤❤ unless someone throws crazy money to have it 😅😂
Great cars! Jay was easy on this customer car. The guy does great work at probably 1/3 price of a Singer. There are actually many great Porsche shops in SoCal. This guy is true to the heritage.
Jay, I was the opposite of you with me growing up in Long Beach. I loved the Lotus cars with the little 4 bangers, the British sports cars, tiny Fiat Abarths, Alphas, etc.. My favorite Corvette was/is the 1957, single headlights and EFI and a little less so the '53-'56. The big V8s didn't do so much for me. I also liked the 356s, 914s and 912s (the 912s had a rep as the most reliable of the Porches of the day. I bought a Morgan 4/4 in 1969 when I got out of the Army. It was $2,500 for a like new 1967--I traded in my '62 Peugeot 404 for it and got $600 for the 404. Just this week, I found the receipt for the Morgan--no one can convince me that I'm a hoarder!. I think I'm going to have it framed.

Carmicha3l I hope you realise ferdinand porsche was a nazi engineer and hitler assisted in the creation of volkswagen, hitler laid the first block of the vw factory, if you dont know yet, i sugest you look it up, very intdresting
Cool! Thanks, Jay. I love that blue one too.
Wow. I've seen multiple instances of dangerous driving in the background of this footage. Is it customary on US highways to perform lane changes while not maintaining any sort of a safe distance to the car in front or behind you?
That's just Southern California driving. There is a reason why they shoot at each other.
welcome to L.A.
Lack of courtesy and common sense and skill is rampant.
VioletGiraffe 🤣🤣🤣
Look at the Hyundai at 19:18. He obviously hit somebody, so his hood is damaged, bumper scratched and his license plate lost.
Very good video the guy really knew his stuff any question Jay asked he knew, you could tell Jay was very impressed, probably have all his Porches now serviced there and probably buy one of these rebuilds..
Looks like Jay doesn't sometimes like being confined by lines when he's driving.
Jay is LA’s super star. We all love to see him out driving his amazing cars.
I’ve had my Black 83 911sc Targa turbo tail since 85.
Great cross country, deserts and mountains. Has never broke down. On 2nd clutch pack. I’ll take it to the Philippines upon retirement ❤❤ unless someone throws crazy money to have it 😅😂
The face of the owner when heard the gearbox! 😂 Don't worry if Jay breaks it he canfix it.
Awesome they're breathing new glory into these legendary cars
Leno, cutting people off lol.. Old man driving :P Love it Leno, Love it.
OK Junior!
@@ScorpionF1RE_USA he so would say that haha
The look on Jays face @ 17:47 when that car passes him is priceless. Then he looks over at Marlon like "let me go get him. lol
19:39 Right after he asks about the gearbox he grinds it. "Sorry", hipster Porsche rebuild company guy
I was looking for this comment hah
@Fail Zero 19There is an actual culture around these cars on what is acceptable and cool-sort of like you and your iPhone/Android
Great cars! Jay was easy on this customer car. The guy does great work at probably 1/3 price of a Singer. There are actually many great Porsche shops in SoCal. This guy is true to the heritage.
I'll take a quarter pound of that finely chipped gear Jay!!! Since you're grinding!!
amazing how Jay drives so well with his eyes closed
20:25 Good example of Cali driving. Watch the pickup truck cut somebody off from two lanes over.
@22:14 Not even a tenth of what it can do but still can't stay between the lines.
NoBrakes23 the lines are painted on the roads as "suggestions" should you wish to choose a lane. Entirely optional.
I see the racing lines. why dont you?
I was born in 1974 and I love the accordion Porsche. :)
"Harley and Porsche the most aftermarket friendly" Yo you gotta add JEEP to that list.
Ever pick up a copy of Hot VW's? Huge aftermarket for aircooled bug, bus, Ghia.
Gregory Timmons they are much... CoOLeR than a Jeep
Foxbody Mustangs too.
Jay is the ultimate gear head, at 19:50 some may confuse his flatulence for a gear grind. He even apologizes for it. What a gent.
Very nice car but was hoping to see the other one driven.
Drivetribe did a great driving review of it with Jethro at the wheel.
I always like Jay and how he views cars, he can always find at least one thing he likes, but usually more
I wish a company did this for older BMWs. I would almost kill for an E28 5 series, E32 7 series or an E24 six that had be remade and improved. ,
That 1974 is sooooooooo much fun in the mountains of California!!! Nothing like a track car on regular roads............
