Great video! I'm in the process of buying an older foreclosure home. I'm 22 years old and I'm really excited. The ceilings have popcorn texture, so I wanted to remove it, and re-texture it and the walls with knockdown. Thanks for taking the time to make and upload this video. I do computer stuff, so videos like this gives me confidence I can do this job without paying someone. Thanks again!
Very complete! Thanks so much for the detailed explanation! We scrapped off the acoustic/popcorn ceiling, and we now need to re-texture the ceiling. We have knock-down on our walls, and we're now ready to apply it on the ceiling thanks to your video :).
Thank you for taking the time to explain what is done and WHY it is done...ie.. a WET rag wipedown for a smooth gliding trowel. Alot of other videos have no explanations so I saw some wipedowns and although I could figure out why, they did not appear to be wet rags or have explanations. Also, I liked how you gave a nozzle size recommendation. Totally learned alot from your video.
Great instructional video! The step by step details really do give you a sense of confidence to start this work for the first time. You have the best video I have seen on this, thank you very much!
Very good video. Ignore those who claim they need moving pictures. Excellent detail with supporting visuals. I don't need to watch you turn something on since you described everything so well. Thank you!
Good video. Thanks for posting it. I was going to paint my walls first then remove asbestos popcorn ceiling and retexture. Now I'll do the ceiling first then the walls.
+Bob Purt funny story, I'm literally 5 minutes into this half bath makeover extravaganza and the wife and I are at odds about taking on a project right now which I thought we were in agreement on. Apparently she was only talking about the flooring but I don't half do anything! Nothing has been done yet... to be continued though
Hey Flannel Channel, you did a great job on this. Thanks! Love the clear illustration. Personally I prefer the step by step over a video as your instructions were clear and I didn't have to listen through an air compressor or other noise. The only "Noise" we have here are the haters. Ignore 'em! + Murray Russel Do you prefer the videos because you don't know how to read? What do you mean 'get a book'? Better make sure it has lots of pictures. hahha
what an excellent excellent video. i am ready to go to home depot to rent the hopper since i do not need to buy it because i will only use it on this project and the bathroom. i will let you know how it turned out. thanks again
Adam, thanks for the detailed video. At 5:56 you say to "screw on the half inch nozzle that came with the spray gun". I presume you're talking about the diameter of the threaded hole, not the diameter of the spray opening which appears much smaller. My gun came with several sizes from about 1/8 up to 5/16. Which should I use?
Use the biggest one if you want a more coarse looking texture. The smaller ones for a more subtle look. That is personal preference and also take into consideration the condition of the existing wall. If it is in bad shape use the biggest nozzle.
Just wondered if for small patch jobs I could get the same knockdown texture look using a pre-mixed joint compound instead of a large dry mix bag of stucco? Thank you!
Hi, Adam! Thanks for this video. We have appreciated the knowledge you share and how you walked us through this process. Wondering if you would or would not recommend mixing some primer with mud? Why or why not? Thank you!
can we apply the texture to raw drywall, im using the purple sided drywall for a bathroom, but i don't know if i should prime it first or can the plaster bond to the purple side good enough. It will be for ceiling.
Wondering on a ceiling that already has very old popcorn texture, do I need to scrape it off to begin the project or can I just go over it with a heavy application? If I need to scrape it off do I need to prime it first? then spray the texture?
What is the difference between the texture mixture that you mix up yourself and the pre-mixed joint compound? Can the texture mix be used to do a swirl pattern and applied with a heavy nap roller?
+Flannel Channel Actually I mixed joint compound, white ceiling paint and water, put it on with a heavy nap roller and swirled it using a wallpaper brush. The white paint seems to give it what it needs to get that play with reflected light. I used those plastic double headed tacks on each side of the ceiling to hold a string to keep the swirls in alignment.
I plan to do celing first then walls. Problem I have is a double bull nosed archway. The rest of the house is already knockdown. How can I do that without leaving a ridge from the knife and round wipe off knife? Or do I just leave this spot orange peel?
+Kris Kersch I always overlap then when pretty well dry use a Brush, sponge and Feather it into each other and blend the texture as best as you can. Use a sample first and try 2-3 ways before you begin your actual project. Then you will know what you are going to end up with. I use a $35 gun as it does the same as a more expensive one unless you want to spend more for very little more... Mud is cheap and you can do about 2 bedrooms wit a couple of $3.97 per carton (But you need 2-5 gallon bucket, 1 to mix in and the other with clean water...) ... Try using Kitty Litter as a Texture as I have had to do to match up an existing section of texture... If you spray it and don't like where they match up you can Very easily clean it off and touch up. You can use paper, tape and plastic to shield or if you have help they can hold a piece of cardboard to help shield as I would suggest having an extra pair of hands there anyways. I have done Remodels and New Construction for over 30 years... Good Luck...
you miss the point.......IF doing a bathroom remodel, or near by, there very well would be a bath tub available to supply clean water.......Think, assimilate, THEN talk....
I would not clean your tools in the house as it could plug the drains, if you do use PLENTY of water and let the water run several minutes after you are done
I would have expected a TH-camVIDEO to show an actual video of the implementation of the process, not just photos and audio. I could have obtained as much information from a book. Please consider this on your future posts.
"pipe down clown", that's your response? What are you, 12? It's good to see how well you handle negative comments and suggestions. Remember, you posted on uTube where people search for instructional videos... My feedback was justified.
Judging from the comments here, you're the only one who seems to have an issue. The author clearly took time and effort to make this instructional VIDEO. Too bad that effort was wasted on you. Seems there is always one ingrate that something is never good enough for. Didn't your momma ever teach you that if you don't have something nice to say, then don't say anything at all?
+Robert JOhansen what did you expect from a person that could not even read the name of the person replied to him to see it was not the same as the Author of the video? I did not need to watch him do a whole room to understand. This video is amazing!!!!
@@remonmawad it is I'm an older woman and i understood perfectly I'm going to do this one project it's a rental i already have a lg compressor so halfway there lol
Okay please don't apply this 'texture' to walls or ceilings. It will be someone else's nightmare when they want them gone. S M O O T H is what walls should be. Skip the 25 steps. Stop teaching people this technique --- horrible job to remove. Stick with paint or wallpaper. We thank you.
Smooth is what YOU want. Textured walls are part of the decoration of a house or the style of the build. WALLPAPER!? seriously? Wallpaper removal damages the drywall and you end up repairing gouges and scrapes for hours.

Excellent explanation I’ve watched so far! Your pointers are so helpful I’mma fix our ceiling now lol

It was a job well done.

Is there an advantage to applying a light orange peel first before the heavier final coat with 1/2" nozzle?

Michele Andrus you'll need to remove the popcorn, get it wet, it will help the removal, if the ceiling doesn't have a bunch of paint coats ;)
Im planning to apply knock down texture in my home 2500sf . Which compressor would you recommend me to buy to do it my self .

I was not able to find this "unagrigated wall texture" instead I found westpac green line wall texture, what do u think?

Where should i start on celing when knocking down?
Would a 1/4 hose be sufficient or 3/8?
Great video but you forgot to suggest the recomme for how far away to spray away from the wall...8 inches...18 inches???
Thanks for the info!
Ye kese banaya ha Aap bta sakte ho kya
Can i use Hamilton Red line mud?
awesome thanks
"Raigs"?? LOL! Great video though. Thanks!!
can you apply a texture on an existing painted wall?
ya I'm gonna sit here and watch a 25 step process hahahaha see ya!!
Please include video in your video.
Duly noted!
Knock down texture is a misnomer. It sounds like you put the texture on then hack it off when it is dried. It should be called squish down texture.
Lmao keep a bath tub near by
you miss the point.......IF doing a bathroom remodel, or near by, there very well would be a bath tub available to supply clean water.......Think, assimilate, THEN talk....

You don't remove texture, you skim coat. Maybe that's why you're having such a problem?
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah, no video? what a waste of my time
