hi
💙🎼👍🥢
Prester? I hardly knew her.
Pretty weak that Avey Tare didn't play Montreal and tickets haven't been refunded.
imagine being a band for like 20 years and still being close to your bandmates. i think that says a lot about the characters of animal collective
Or the chemistry.
This song is about the band growing farther away and the inevitable demise.
Prestor John is breaking down.
Prestor John = anco

GEO ON HURDY GURDY?!
This is heaven.
Geo on blip bleep boops
I knew that was a hurdy gurdy!! I need to get my headphones. I've only heard this through my phone speaker at work, and I'm being robbed of the full experience.

If there is somewhere that is the representation of somewhere even better than heaven, then this song and the reasons you said exactly are the true force of it's creation..
I'm glad the animals decided to collect again
This is one of the most straightforward AC tracks in a while and it's very refreshing.
Best thing they’ve released since MPP, save for Meeting of the Waters. For the first time in a long time I am actually excited for the upcoming AnCo album.
@@huntercopeland9371 I agree but for me, I thought Bridge to Quiet was the best they had released in a long time.
you guys are nerds they’ve stayed consistently good. ‘Today’s Supernatural’ and ‘Recycling’ are both certified slappers.
I've got a hypothesis that Deakin has a big part in the albums he's in, such a different feel whenever he's involved
@@d_e_z_1 cap he’s not on their two best albums (mpp and sung tongs)
I’m happy to see Panda behind the drums again. He’s one of my favorite percussionists of all time
Yeah that’s what I’m the happiest about
You mean behind drum
This is honestly the most straightforward his drumming has been. In this he sounds like an actual drummer. He said his biggest inspiration for drumming was Stewart Copeland. In AC's older music it's really hard to hear that influence and his drumming is more of a very tribal and rhythmic percussion. But now I can definitely hear an influence. I'm a drummer myself, probably still more of a beginner because I've only been drumming for really a year, but I really do think Panda Bear's drumming is impressive. He has the ability to show off but he usually chooses what's right for the song. His drumming is very humble in that way. I'd probably say Panda Bear is my biggest inspiration as a drummer and all around artist right now.
I love that live video of them playing applesauce pandas drumming is great
His drumming on Spirit They're Gone is just straight up wacky. It's like some actual Venetian Snares/Aphex Twin IDM stuff. I think that's the album that features his drumming most prominently, but I'm surprised he isn't recognized for it more. I was totally blown away when I finally listened to that album.
My grandfather died after a long fight with heart disease on the day this song came out. This was the perfect track to give me a language to mourn and celebrate my grandfather.
I always listen to Anco in difficult times, very therapeutic. Glad it helped you.
R.I.P.
In peace may he rest
This just made every AC fan very happy: a noticeable, balance with all of the members
The lyrics, to me, sound like they are describing the end of an era, and imploring us to shift our focus to what really matters in our lives. With what is ahead, it is the only thing that can save us.
I like this
I think that's great and seems accurate. I also gathered a feeling of staying in touch with our 'spirit' inside, not getting lost and out of touch with ourselves or growing cold, and not being entirely distracted by all the overabundance of things and digital world forming around us. :)
@@JuliusEchoForever "screens" is kinda about this too
I feel like they’re hinting this will be their last album. The visuals that accompany the lyrics definitely reinforce this for me. I hope I’m wrong

I’ve been listening to AC for 15 years and I feel like this is one of their best songs ever.
same -- have listed to just about everything, even back to Automine -- and imo this is up there with some of their best work

Please have deakin sing more I've been waiting for him to express himself vocally ever since his solo project! I don't care if this album take 5 years this is gonna be great
Check out the Deakin remix of Avalanches - Extra Kings
Good House is one of his best performances IMO, I’m also glad they’re handing him the mic again after Centipede Hz!

Deakin's power stance while playing the keyboard is awesome.
One of the most influential groups of our lifetime hands down.
AnCo are STILL unparalleled in sound design. That bass is so sexy. The jingly echoing wind chime thing just massages by brain in al the right places. Hyped for the album.
I was so surprised to see a tune named Prester John, that I had to check the band.
I can get used to this... I like it!
When you feel like your favorite band finally found its most refined sound, pure bliss my friends!
Absolutely. It’s like they’ve taken all of their influences and distilled them into just being a live fucking band again. Don’t get me wrong, I love there more electronic compositions, but the live feel of people playing psychedelic music in a room is what initially drew me to them in the first place. If you haven’t you should go check out a video entitled “blast skiffs,“ basically the new album compiled from broadcasts of recorded rehearsal performances from this summer before the fall tour and maybe some from the summer of 2019 when they were rehearsing for tour than as well. So glad the songs finally got recorded, and they have enough material for a second album which they will be recording live in person soon as they felt certain songs didn’t work recording remotely. UGH, sorry. I’m so stoked for all of this new music that I can’t shut up.
Animal Collective is exactly what we all need right now
DEAKIN has freakin’ returned!
makes me happy to see Deakin is back and looks like he's having so much fun in this video!
they look like they're having an absolute ball!
Deakin is a great guy, his solo works are beautiful.
They've reached classic rock gods status
its not hard to
Most classic rock bands didn't find material this good this late in the day. All the kudos in the world to them for finding that magic again. This is such an incredible piece of art.
@@Dr.JeremyDunks they never lost the magic. pretty much all of their 2010s output was fantastic, especially Painting with and Centipede Hz
@Jefferson Keane for many of us Painting With is the current reigning masterpiece
I've loved a lot of their recent projects but this really feels like a return to form, I'm so happy
this is Animal Collective's masterpiece.
that hurdy gurdy solo at the end is too hard
I never knew that's the sound of a hurdy gurdy before today, the mystery of Piggy Knows has been solved for me
Avey's catchy bassline is giving me LIFE!!!

this is the first AC track since Feels that feels like it has BREATHING ROOM in it
Check out bridge to quite and meeting of the waters as well as the film sound track they did recently Crestone. All have plenty of breathing room.
100% -- such a relief to not be hit with a blast of frantic energy right out the box.
Well that's simply not true. Do songs need breathing room necessarily?
Personally I liked being suffocated by painting with, but that's not the energy we need these days
No breathing room on no more runnin? No breathing room on what would I want sky? Meeting of the waters?
THIS is what I was missing about these lads! Of course I admire all of their work, but this brings me back to why I first fell in love with AC in the first place, it’s magical and reminds us of why these guys are such great visual artists
Can never miss a beat w these guys
Man, they transcend .. and we're just lucky to be apart of it
Yes geo we love the hurdy gurdy
And just like that Animal Collective solved all my problems again
Had a bit of a break from AC for a while, just never got around to listening to the last maybe 3 albums. Anyway just saw this in recommended and thought ah why not... oh my god 🥲 literally so happy to see my friends again
this is some of their most gorgeous stuff
That outro melted my brain. It's amazing to hear the boys back at it again
I remember first discovering this musical magic back in 2007! Sophomore year of high school. Always great to hear and see new stuff from you guys.
same here!
Me too! Except it was 2015 and I was a sophmore
they were one of my best friends favorite bands, we went to go see them our senior year also 2007 but the show sold out before we got there. totally gutted because they played My girls way before merriweather post pavilion came out. never have managed to see them live unfortunately, one of these days!
What was the first song you heard, if you recall? For me it was “Safer” ages ago....and without getting into it, I’ll just say it was truly *life-changing*
i forgot how much i love this band until now.
Bro this is about to be their best album since Merriweather I can just feel it IM SO FUCKING HYPED RN AUUUUGGJHHHHH
Don't jinx it!
Everything since Merriweather has been disappointing for me. That album was a masterpiece and one of the greatest albums ever. Dropped some classics before Merriweather too, hope they have a good comeback.
Agreed, should be promising
@@23lFrench maybe their studio albums were a little lackluster, but their concerts have never been less than brilliant. Hearing the live version of painting with is soooo good...it was never meant to be heard with small speakers or headphones. Their sound was meant to thrust your body.
(don't forget they've got two albums coming out soon)
This is phenomenal. I had stopped listening to them for a while but my interest is renewed and this is such a refreshing sound from them.
Really reminds me of what a stripped down ODDSAC would sound like.
A ray of pure light after many years of darkness, is what this FEELS like.
The Deak has yet to peak.
obsessed with this already. love them.
It gets better every time I watch 🥺
Treating every day as an image of a moment that's passed. That line hits too hard.
While I liked Centipede Hz and Painting With, there's a big difference between AC when they try to push and explore new music styles vs when they just settle in and focus on the soul of the music. This track has that soul again and I'm super excited.
Glad I’m not the only one who feels exactly how you described
Both those albums are trash tbh. Only two I didn't like.
I thought centipede was a masterpiece. Honestly got into it quicker than MPP if you can believe it. I just think I was expecting something slightly different from what we got after listening to so many live bootlegs of the MPP era and also being at the very first show where they played that material live I think the less evolved versions of the songs took on a really major significance for me. Painting with took me a very long time to get into, but I dig it now, but this, this is going to be the best album since feels. I can feels it.
PB on drums always strums my heart strings.. Oooooofff
After seeing em play this stuff live, Avey on bass is my new favorite thing in the whole wide universe. Except for my doggy baby. They are tied though 😜
Impressed by the first 3 minutes of this. Also this is the origin song of the Deak's vampire in Oddsac (he used to be Prester John before he broke down.)
This week I rediscovered my love for their music. Sleeping to their records every night and reimagining myself after a tough breakup. This was completely unexpected but feels utterly meant to be and I’m just glad I can share it with all you guys
You're not alone. 😊
i feel the same way!!
3:23 GREAT Geddy Lee/Chris Squire bass tone. LOVE IT.
I love you🎉
It is been a long time. So glad to hear this new song.
Since Painting With they have released one album/visual album, one score, one live album, one single, and three EPS (two of them over 30 minutes), they never left!

dude it grew on me so fucking much, like I felt it was okay at first glance but omg after a few more listens, the synth melodies are so good in this one, the bassline is killer, the vocal armonies too.
@@mikeexits full disclosure, I had been up for 2hrs at that point, I just meant that it was the first music I'd heard that day. But it may just be the state of my fandom because I haven't really vibed anything after CHz and thought Painting With needed a brand new production job. This is so beautiful. This is the first time I've seen them all four of
them making music together with their faces visible, they're such precious human beings. It's especially
impactful as I think this is their first release since the pandemic hit.
Animal Collective addresses themes of genuine emotional expression, pure joyful love, the act of awareness,
the raw carnal experience of being an animal, the confusion that comes
with being born, the absurdity of existing, the desperate helplessness of loss, and just the
overwhelming simple ecstasy of being alive in a way that I've never heard
from any other musical experience. They know what it's like to be me,
and I know what it's like to be them because we are all going through
the human experience together. We wake up under the same sky and we sit
on the same warm rock together. I would love to talk to them and trade
poems.
I love all of you. You are all members of my community. I feel an
indescribable camaraderie with every living thing on this planet, like
we owe everything we have to each other. No matter what happens to you
in your future, I hope you enjoy sharing this planet and this life.

Beautifully said, and right back at you. Although if I can be an Animal Collective nerd here for a second and just say that they have actually had two releases since the pandemic started. The bridge to quiet EP in July of 2020 and the Chrestone sound track which came out earlier this year that includes only Deakin and Geologist but is really good if you like desert ambient.
