a very minor point, but I have a M1 Air. I live in a colder area and there are times when I go type, the moment my palms touch the metal surface, it feels like ice cubes. Another minor issue is the reflectivity. I have the silver color and lighting at certain angles are reflected directly in my eyes. Otherwise I love my MacBook.

I have the XPS and I hate the keyboard. Keys are nice, but the fact that you can't use ctrl and shift in combination with the HOME / INSERT buttons at the same time as the higher numbered F keys kills my productivity in programs like VSCode and Visual Studio. I bought the XPS 15 (2022) because I like having a window laptop and to be able to play a few games of work. The biggest drawback for me is how long time it takes windows (even with windows hallo) to open and get ready. And windows sleep mode is so unreliable that I never know if there is power the next morning when i close the lid on a fully charged laptop in the evening. I use my iPad for everyday quick tasks and the Dell for heavy work sessions.

It shouldn't be taking your laptop more than a few seconds to boot into windows. I'd also like to say that sleep mode is trash - should use hibernate, which is just superior in every way. You can even set it to your default action when the computer lid is closed, just like sleep.

Thank you. I think it comes down to your use case. My wife, Macbook is perfect. She forgets to charge. She uses consumer level apps. For me, overtime I prefer the XPS 17 9720 over my MBP16 M2. I think the keyboards, trackpads and screens are all amazing on both. The value add for the XPS is upgradability/serviceability and Dell’s TB Dock selection (8TB Raid 0, 64 BG DDR5 Memory, battery swap if needed, super clean desk with one cable from TB4 dock that is hardwired in router). And when I am away from my desk, the XPS 17 screen is large and easy for me to view v. 16 screen with a 1/2 inch notch. 7-8 hours of battery is plenty for me. Rarely am I in a place with out a plug. And I am a heavy excel and adobe premier user.

The heating issue, mediocre web camera (720p), and costs makes it undesirable. The 17-inch Dell XPS is better at heat management, but that goes for any 16inch+ laptop.
An alternate option is the Lenovo ThinkPad T16, but the high-end performance will never be at Dell XPS 17 level. However, you will get good performance and better build quality.

Even my almost 6-year-old intel mbp last me a full school day of programming and other demanding tasks and it still runs astonishingly well, I bet 0 similarly priced windows laptops at the time I bought the mbp could have lasted as long or as well.

Hi, looking for feedback. Hope you can answer this in a timely manner. Best Buy has the Dell I-7 with the Intel ARC A370M Graphics Card for a ridiculous $999. I was going to up it to 32GB ram and I have in the house an extra Samsung 980 PRO 1TB drive and would push the included 512GB into the extra slot for storage. All this being said, I'm most concerned about this Intel ARC A370M Graphics Card. I've heard so many bad reviews about it. I'm not a serious gamer, but, I do edit video with Adobe Elements 5-10 minute videos, sort of, like a You Tube video or something in scope. Am I going to hate myself with that graphics card? Should I just pass on this deal as too good to be true because maybe Dell is just dumping these so cheap because nobody wants that graphics card? I know your model has the NVIDA card, but, any thoughts?

It's amazing how these companies have developed Laptop products over the years. It is undeniable that Apple Laptops are satisfying when we talk about "aesthetics" and "form factor". Dell especially the XPS lineup today, has its own unique character though, making it stand out on its own, again' speaking about aesthetics, and form factor.
But, in the case of Architecture Software needs, Windows has always been in demand, and perhaps the most preferred operating system to be used. So some professionals especially Architects who do not want to bring bulky, too-gaming-looking, rainbow-lit keyboards during a Client's meeting, a MacBook would be perfect, just not on the performance and software side, and that is coming from experience which in the end made me buy another Laptop running Windows.

Solid video and advice. I'm still on a XPS 15 9560. I'd love a new laptop but this one is fine and can't justify it yet. I can definitely say Dell build quality has gone downhill though. We primarily order Dells at my employer and they've been pretty terrible.

after 3 orders of xps, all of them being sent back from 2017-2020... battery, trackpad, hinge issues.... and alongside terrible and long dell support: i've switched fully to an ipad, iphone, macbook, ecosystem. I hate dells quality control, embarassing fan noise when i am in the class room or library, and their tech support takes over an hour to reply and their customer support is terrible and rude. I'd rather pay a thousand more dollars to a company that cares about their quality like apple. Plus the resale value and longevity is so good.

While the M2 is a beautiful machine, I will always opt for the XPS. Maybe it is because I can't be bothered to adapt to the change in OS. Regardless, XPS is a thing of beauty and quite frankly not as ubiquitous as a Mac. A lot of times people will ask what laptop is that, perhaps it is because its extremely expensive, especially for a windows laptop

One thing that reviewers don't talk about is how Mac OS uses system memory if you are driving an external display while the computer is docked. Given how expensive both machines are, it does not seem unreasonable to think that many users are going to outfit their setups with external displays for working in the office or at home when they don't need the portability. A dedicated graphics card makes the XPS waaaaay more versatile than the Mac in that regard. Because the Mac does not have a discrete graphics card with it's own pool of RAM, external displays and VRAM intensive applications will eat into your system memory. If you plan to use the Mac for real work, upgrade to 32GB of RAM to mitigate this issue.
Once you've upgraded the RAM in the Mac to make it truly equivalent to the XPS, the cost rises to $2399. When comparing to a mobile workstation with a dedicated graphics card, that is the lowest tier version of the Mac I would consider a true competitor.

How is battery life a windows problem ( 6:47 ) ? Battery life is a hardware problem of Intel and AMD x86 CPUs not be as efficient as ARM. Negative points about the DELL seem to be very nit picking. As if the reviewers dont want any competition to Apple. For instance no one mentions how annoying and gimmicky Apple's camera notch is but if DELL had done that I bet they would be going on and on about it in every review. it is fashionable to be very critical of PCs.
