    What a find! Interested to see how you transform this one. There’s nothing like a guitar that requires willpower to put down. The back of the neck looks slick as hell

      The finish on these is wierd! They shot them so thin, the don't have defined wear borders. It just fades to satin/natural. But the shape is dynamite.

    i have one of these, it's a 66 slabboard olympic white turned yellow. such an awesome and fun guitar to play with loads of character and unique tones... also i think the previous owner of yours may have strung it up wrong (i wrap the strings underneath the tremolo piece) still it's a pretty guitar i think you should leave it with that colour :P

      Love the white. Had a 66 musicmaster with the basic bridge in white. Never should have sold it.
      The issue with this finish vs the finish on the EBo episode is the prep.
      This finish was not prepped properly. The surface was sanded too aggressively, the grain never "closed" with a cleaning pass. The surface will be soft permanently and has already started to flake away.
      So we have no moisture mediation or impact resistance.
      It becomes a question of replacing an already flawed refinish, or allowing the acceleration of the degradation of the body itself. #theseus . :(

    Cool find B… you’re a lucky man! Still nothing on the missing guitar?

      Omg Mark, was talking to Ramiro on here bout that. Took a year off my life but after a full scale investigation an origin scan started in NJ (wtf) and 30 mns later another origin scan like 350 miles away.
      I've come to the conclusion that someone inbetween here and there was trying to get the guitar "lost."
      However after another 3 days of no sleep, it arrived at the buyers address.
      Seriously, what a complete mindf***.

    I have a couple of Squier Mustangs and I've woodworked the headstocks down to a smaller more Tele-like shape that looks nicer to me with the small size and nice body shape of the guitars. All done with hand tools and sandpaper, refinishing the new edges with wiping poly. Looks factory or better. This also removed 3-4 ounces of dead weight that some people think make these guitars neck-divers. I haven't really noticed that problem, just did it for appearance. These short-scale Mustangs are definitely fun to play, right?

      Like go karts at high speed! Especially after swinging weight around and then coming back to this compact little killer!

    Awesome vid! How can you tell it's a 64'? I have one too, but the plate stamp dating suggests 65', but headstock laminate suggests 64'. 🙃
    Much love!

      That happened alot back then with pocket stamps and neck plates giving gaps on dates! This one had a neck stamp assembly date of 64. :)
      Thanks for tuning in!

    Hey Brother! Hope you’re doing well. I have a Mustang question: I got a nitro refin with comp stripes and the color on the stripes is off. Can I sand the clear coat off, tape off the stripes and paint over just the stripes? The base paint is good it’s just the stripes are bugging me. Thoughts?

    • @breilly66
      @breilly66  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Bry! Let's ask this question first. Are the stripes raised as you lightly drag your nail over the visible edge?
      Or is the color nearly level with the body hue?

    • @brywestwhit
      @brywestwhit 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@breilly66 it’s pretty level. When I drag my fingernail across I can feel no transition.

    • @breilly66
      @breilly66  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hmm... okay. So the color is likely just a dusting but def under the clear. And the nitro could be pretty thin.
      The simplest way, would be to spray over the existing. Since the level is even without a step, an overspray can be laid on without the step ghosting upward into reflectivity.
      To cut into it without knowing the depth, would be like opening a package with a knife. Could break through a level not intended. :/

      @brywestwhit 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@breilly66 yeah, seems iffy. The nitro is very thin. Glad I asked. I definitely don’t want to open a can of worms.
