They can see this is a rehab. What do they want? Tools, building materials, new appliances, etc. I learned to bolt my property down tight before I was living in the house. That guy is most likely your neighbor...and he will be back. The idiot is teaching his kids that this type of behavior is OK and sadly, one day one of those kids is gonna get his head blown off. Shouldn't be allowed to be a parent.

Yep, and if you get the solar ones with the motion detectors you can turn on/off with a remote even better as it does not cost you anything on your power bill, and they are still really bright, last for years, and most of them use 18650 batteries which are cheap, and easy to replace after several years of use. I still have one at the back of my house that's been going for over 7 years straight.

I have been worried about this happening to you since you started this build. I have friends with lake properties and several now (some this year) have had break-ins. I am glad you have setup security cams and such. Hard to 'televise' all the stuff you have inside without tempting someone into wanting your stuff more than you do. I can't move into a new apartment without some sort of secrecy of what I am taking inside. Neighbors see a 70 inch big screen going in, suddenly they are on 'watch' for when you aren't home.

@@alexandrecouture2462 he put a small pad down for the water heater. A similar pad is all that would be required for a washer/dryer and there is easy access to water, electric, and venting. He could even add a small table and cabinet for laundry folding and cleaning supplies respectively and if the cabinet locks he wouldn't have to worry about renters using his supplies and he wouldn't need to store such things in the apartment. It really is the perfect solution and while I agree an unfinished basement isn't ideal as someone who grew up poor I can tell you there are far worse compromises that sometimes have to be made when you need something like laundry and have limited space.

Having dealt with my Rockford IL house in the 1990's crackheads broke in and stole all the copper convectors. Then tore the copper out of the service (was converting back from apartments but was going to leave the meter setup alone). Had to sell to the city because replacing or retrofitting to forced hot air would have been $10k the new service would have been another $5k. Houses in that neighborhood were going for $20-$30k.
A couple of years ago my future retirement home that backed up to the police department in another town was broken into, tools stolen, damage done, antiques that came with the house and the stained glass window anniversary present to my wife were all stolen as well. I secured with a security screen door and WiFi cameras.

I was going to suggest that GE all in one. I got mine from Home Depot about a month and a half ago when they were on sale for under $2000. It is awesome compared to the old all in ones. The other brands have no way to deal with the lint, which used to clog up my unit. The GE figured that problem out. I also installed a Rheem heat pump water heater. Between the two it is a game changer.

Why didn’t the bathroom get a small window? Always better to have a window there (for smells etc) than not in my opinion 😄

Glad they didn’t get in. Wow love the deck! Composite decks are so nice. I have a doorbell camera. I have cameras all around my property. Caught someone trying to steal my boat. I let my chow chows out. Boy did they run. I took the hitch off the trailer after that.

Try one of the flexible plates, those should withstand drilling better than the hard ones.

I suggest putting the washer dryer cupboard under the deck, it won't take up leisure space and the hookups will be just as easy.

It’s crazy people do. I bought an old general store and it’s now my home I couldn’t stop nosy people from looking in put up nest cameras didn’t stop people. Finally I bought signs on Amazon that I put up in several places that said “smile you’re on camera” and it completely stopped.

I hope that guy was just curious and had no ill intent. Now that you have eliminated the fireplace, don't forget to cap the chimney, in some of the footage I could see that the flue tile was open.

Would that GE all in one washer/dryer fit in the utility room? Maybe on the wall under the manifold? Would be nice to not have to worry about winterizing it and not lose any deck space.

Should extend the deck to the area where the trailer is or add a staircase. Gives you a second exit from the house.

I saw those washer and dryer setups. It's cool! But what about putting it below the deck or under the house? Would not take up valuable deck space then. Would have to figure out how to drain. I don't know how high you can have those drains. But the videos are great!

I've got a heat pump dryer, they definitely take a bit longer but not needing a vent solves a bunch of issues, and here in the UK, it only costs me about 15 cents of electricity to dry a load of clothes

Could have been people who have long known of the abandoned wreck of a place and were merely curious about what has been going on. I find it hard to believe somebody with small kids was planning any evil activity. But there clearly is always a risk when a remote property is left unoccupied for much of the time.

I'm amazed by all the comments about how they think this bloke was just a 'nosey neighbour' or 'possibly knew the old owners', etc. You could see he was up to no good from the start! Shining his phone's torch at the camera to block his face. He knew what he was there for, and it wasnt just to have a look at the progress!
But i agree, massive lowlife for taking his (i assume) kids with him.

The G4 Pro Doorbells came back in stock last week and I scored one for myself and my parents - night and day over any other doorbell camera (Nest, Ring or Wemo). The package camera is way cool and as you said, the notifications are fast and rock solid.
With your new construction I think I would have tried to get the POE version - the POE kits were in stock briefly last month and I almost bought it since the other has been out of stock forever, although I would have had to cut into sheetrock to pull ethernet for it. Either way you can't go wrong. The AI 360 is also awesome - if they ever come in stock again.

    • @generallyhelpfulsoftware646
      @generallyhelpfulsoftware646 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I snagged a POE version myself to replace a broken G4. Luckily, it wasn’t all that hard getting an Ethernet cable to it, even given insulation. Love the reliability of a wired connection.
I’d certainly have run Ethernet to the front door if I were JR.
