Hi, I just put a hot microwaved paper plate with a slice of very hot pizza on it on my nice end table. It left that fog stain. I thought for sure that I had damaged the surface and would have to sand it and refinish it. I went to TH-cam and typed in "heat stain on wood" and the first video was yours. Worked! Amazing! Cotton Cloth, High Heat, No Steam, Kept the iron moving. I did a dozen or so sets of reheating the iron. For the first four or five sets you think it's not working then suddenly you start to see the change. Much gratitude to you!
I would like to add that this also worked on my hardwood floor. I left the steam mop on my hardwood floor to long and it left a white mark. After searching the internet i stumbled upon this video, and much to my surprise this worked!

Unbelievable! It worked!! My stain was two white misted circles on a dark wood surface. I did very short bursts of hot iron on an unfolded tea towel on each segment and bit by bit it disappeared! Thank you!!
I am yet another person for whom it worked!! We bought a nice solid wood table secondhand from an individual. The stains were mostly faint but years old. At first I used just heat on a cotton (hot) setting. When after 8 minutes or so it didn't seem to be doing anything, I sprayed some water on my tea towel. After checking and spraying twice, the stain was gone!! Same method on the other stains - I got the wood hot with just heat, then sprayed the towel. Keep the iron moving, and move the towel maybe every other time you check. Now we have no more heat stains!! I am so grateful for this video and all the comments, that gave me confidence to try it!
This actually worked!! Now my parents won’t be mad at me xD. What I did was I pressed a hot iron on the spot for 10 seconds or so, left the heat to absorb the stain for another 30 seconds or so, and it just vanished!! Thank you so much!

For those who did the same as I did and skipped through the video to watch the parts I wanted the iron was set to 5 and no steam. After watching the video I was in the same situation. This was my last effort to do something to my counter height table from Ashley furniture that looked pretty similar to the one in the video and was willing to get rid of it if this didn't work. I used a red shop towel and it also worked. What I will say is that move the iron and the towel around frequently. It took me around 10-15 minutes so you will need to be patient. Leaving the iron in one spot did the same as in the video where it started to leave the towel mark. I wish I could upload the pictures to show the difference. Since this table is several years old I added Murphy's oil at the end just to give it some extra shine. You really have to get down at the table level to be able to tell that there was anything there before but this helped so much. Thanks for sharing!
I can't believe how well this worked. I had two nasty stains on our kitchen table from my kids taking things directly from the microwave. One of them was over 6 months old and it was gone in less then 10 minutes. Thank you so much. I was afraid I would have to strip the entire surface. I just did this today. We had a wood dining table which had more than 40 white glass stain all over it, I was covering it and was thinking give it away and today with 30 minutes Ironing it is again as new as a new table. I am so happy about it. 🎉❤
Worked like magic. Thanks so much. I was asked to sell my mothers' oak table and it had 7 white heat spots on it substantially reducing the value. I used a linen tea towel 1 thickness and an iron set to wool (medium hot) no steam. Circle the iron over the spot briskly for 8 seconds. All the spots were cured in under a minute. Best repair hack I've ever found on the net.

We tried the no steam method on the highest setting and after reading through the comments and him saying that he’s done-for, he tried the steam method on a white heat stain shaped like their ironing board! Ironically, the heat mark left behind by the steam from an iron was removed by the steam method with a kitchen hand towel! It works! Thank you!! Now I want to try it on the rings from coffee mugs! Setting the iron to its highest heat is what worked for me... cotton setting was too low and didnt do much. At its highest setting, it took 5 seconds and it was gone. Thank you!!!!
This works great I tried with an hair dryer at first that didn't work very well, did it with the iron and in seconds the cup marks were gone my furniture looks better now thanks for sharing.

Omg I just sat down and decided to do this after my hubby set a pizza box on our beautiful table about a month ago. At first I thought it wouldn’t work because I didn’t see any progress after about 30 minutes of working on it. I laid the iron on it and went to check on something and I came back 3-4 minutes later and it was mostly gone! I’ve been putting off trying this for a loooong time cuz I just knew with my luck it was going to cause bigger problems and look terrible, but I’m in same boat as you now, no ties to it and getting ready to sell, so I figured what the heck. I just did it and WOW, YIPPEE, YAHOO!!! I started at a low iron setting, absolutely not going to work, so put it up to my “cotton” setting(almost highest setting)and worked through multiple spots on my table. It does take time, be patient, totally worth it, it definitely works, wish I had done it when I first saw this. Oh, I tried steam and it made it worse, but went back with regular iron and worked it out with no problem. Here’s a thought, why not make a DINING table with something that can handle heat since, well, we use it to eat HOT food. 🤣😆😬. Thank you for sharing!
Good suggestion about table top material being able to handle heat. My mind went right to a granite top on a dinning table. It would be heavy and expensive. BUT could look amazing and you could place hot plates and pots directly on the table.
LEGEND! worked a treat after i left a hot pizza box on our solid wood table - thought id wrecked it! No steam for me. Just took my time slowly upping the iron heat and using fewer layers of a dish cloth until it started disappearing! Brilliant!

Found this video 8 years later. Thank you. It works. Except I replaced the iron with a hairdryer. I used a hot hair blow dryer and a thin microfiber cloth.
Thank you so much! Worked perfectly!Left some stains on the table and pissed off my stepdad, glad I was able to fix it. To the people making it worse I'm assuming you used steam. My hypothesis is these white spots are caused by heat opening the pores in the wood and condensation getting into the Poor's so the heat evaporates them out. Also use a thin towel

I tried this, sceptical at first, the thing that caused the stains can fix them, I was going to throw it out and get a new table, so i had nothing to lose ... but surprisingly it worked.

My wooden rv table looked pretty bad. I used your technique and it worked. It took about twenty minutes, i ended up using the highest setting and kept the iron moving. If you really look you can see a ghost of one cup ring, but nothing like before and other large spots are gone. I didn’t want to push my luck. I am happy with the results. Thanks! !
I removed a cup water stain from my varnished coffee table in 2 minutes. I watched it disappear with no effort at all. I tried the equal parts vinegar and olive oil but this method did not work on my table. Deepest gratitude to maker of this video.
Big tip :) - don't have water in the water chamber of your iron - you are only adding more water damage to the table top. DRY IRON ONLY. Even with steam turned off - steam will lightly come out.
My current iron won't even turn on if there's no water in it. I hate this one anyway, but I don't iron often enough to justify the cost of replacing it. I guess I have a new excuse now. 🤣
It worked! I was super careful, put the iron on a middle temp, went section by section. I kind of took breaks because I didn't want the finish to get too hot. I did a slow 8 count and moved the towel after that count so it wouldn't get stuck on and ruin the finish. Fantastic. I thought my table was ruined. Thank you!

Works best with a very thin towel. A few spritzes of water from the iron and apply steam from iron in a circular motion. With a thicker towel, it takes longer because the heat isn't getting through. With a very thin towel you can see a difference immediately.
It seems counterintuitive to use heat to remove a stain that was caused by heat in wood. Years ago I left a hot pizza box on my dining room table and got a cloudy mark just like yours. I hope this works on mine too! Thanks for your video!
Came to say just saved a disaster after Thanksgiving. Ours was a larger and whiter mark. I had to take the heat up to max though which helped. No steam used. I however left a little damage behind since at the end my hands were tired and I left an imprint of the towel on the table. Guess I should stress moving the rag frequently.

I tried the iron technique from an article and didn't get anywhere with it. I moved on to other strategies from the article that also didn't work. I'm so glad I found your video because the trick is a little higher heat than I was previously using and staying with it longer. The owners will never be the wiser. Your "before" heat mark was much more pronounced than mine, so it was quite convincing to see the improvement. Whew, you saved me!
Actually worked!! I had a HUGE stain on the table, probably from a hot to-go box. It took almost 30 minutes, but it was so worth it! Patience is key lol
Some of your viewers might want to try a hair dryer. The idea is the same...releasing the moisture trapped under the finish. Start with a low setting for the dryer and gradually move to hotter settings if necessary. Keep the hair dryer several inches from the table as you constantly keep the dryer moving. The potential advantage of this method is you can observe what's happening to the finish in real-time.
It worked great! Use a 100% cotton cloth, something similar to a nice table napkin. Moving the iron and the cloth around the area slowly and stopping randomly for 10-15 seconds did the trick for me, the whole area was clear in about 15-20 minutes. Another "pizza box" incident. :|

I didn't have an iron, so I used a saucepan with boiled water and reheated it a few times using the same method over a tea towel and wrapping the saucepan, it worked!

Very strange. I was here looking for a solution, because I put a Terry cloth dish towel on my dining room table, and ironed a shirt on it. Now I have a big white stain very similar to the one you're showing. Update: I don't have a tea towel; in fact, I had never even heard that term before watching this video. I used a t-shirt. The white stain I had was quite large - about the size of a dinner plate. I set my iron halfway like you did, and after a full minute, maybe a little more, the white stain started to disappear a little. As I often do, I got a little impatient and decided to try it with the steam. As soon as I turned the steam on, the stain really started to disappear. The whole thing was gone within 30 seconds.
Awesome Dave! Thanks for sharing your results. A tea towel is just a cotton hand towel or dish drying towel. As you realized any fabric that can with stand the heat from the iron will work, t-shirt, pillow case, etc.

That's how I got the marks. i was ironing a patch on a shirt with a towel folded in half under it over my dining room table but I can try. Does it have to be a tea towel? What is a tea towel?

I don't know if it matters if they have the terry material on the other side or they are the same material both sides like you would see in a cloth dinner napkin.

This was a SUPER way to get the table back to normal. Did a shrimp boil, poured hot shrimp, potatoes, corn and sausage on paper sacks and it made a big ragged white mark on the table. Used this, and within 30 minutes it was done!! Awesome!!

You should never use a steam mop on a hardwood floor.
Worked for us! No steam, set the iron to "cotton" mode. Only took 8-10 scrubs. This literally saved our marriage.

THANK YOU!! Mum wont end me now. I used a small face towel, low setting (like 1/3), no steam. Took maybe 20 seconds. Lifted the towel every now and then coz I didnt want it to stick to the table.

Came back to say THANK YOU! Totally worked! We got a table cheap, but unseen. Had huge white marks. This video saved the table. We were able to sell it for several hundred dollars without any work other than removing the white fog marks! Great video!

Omg I just sat down and decided to do this after my hubby set a pizza box on our beautiful table about a month ago. At first I thought it wouldn’t work because I didn’t see any progress after about 30 minutes of working on it. I laid the iron on it and went to check on something and I came back 3-4 minutes later and it was mostly gone! I have now restored our gorgeous table due to removing the heat mark that was the size of a saucer. I’m so so happy and thankful.

I’ve been putting off trying this for a loooong time cuz I just knew with my luck it was going to cause bigger problems and look terrible, but I’m in same boat as you now, no ties to it and getting ready to sell, so I figured what the heck. I just did it and WOW, YIPPEE, YAHOO!!! I started at a low iron setting, absolutely not going to work, so put it up to my “cotton” setting(almost highest setting)and worked through multiple spots on my table. It does take time, be patient, totally worth it, it definitely works, wish I had done it when I first saw this. Oh, I tried steam and it made it worse, but went back with regular iron and worked it out with no problem. Here’s a thought, why not make a DINING table with something that can handle heat since, well, we use it to eat HOT food. 🤣😆😬. Thank you for sharing!
Good suggestion about table top material being able to handle heat. My mind went right to a granite top on a dinning table. It would be heavy and expensive. BUT could look amazing and you could place hot plates and pots directly on the table.
LEGEND! worked a treat after i left a hot pizza box on our solid wood table - thought id wrecked it! No steam for me. Just took my time slowly upping the iron heat and using fewer layers of a dish cloth until it started disappearing! Brilliant!

Found this video 8 years later. Thank you. It works. Except I replaced the iron with a hairdryer. I used a hot hair blow dryer and a thin microfiber cloth.

My hypothesis is these white spots are caused by heat opening the pores in the wood and condensation getting into the Poor's so the heat evaporates them out. Also use a thin towel

I tried this, sceptical at first, the thing that caused the stains can fix them, I was going to throw it out and get a new table, so i had nothing to lose ... but surprisingly it worked.

My wooden rv table looked pretty bad. I used your technique and it worked. It took about twenty minutes, i ended up using the highest setting and kept the iron moving. If you really look you can see a ghost of one cup ring, but nothing like before and other large spots are gone. I didn’t want to push my luck. I am happy with the results. Thanks! !

I removed a cup water stain from my varnished coffee table in 2 minutes. I watched it disappear with no effort at all. I tried the equal parts vinegar and olive oil but this method did not work on my table. Deepest gratitude to maker of this video.

Big tip :) - don't have water in the water chamber of your iron - you are only adding more water damage to the table top. DRY IRON ONLY. Even with steam turned off - steam will lightly come out.

It worked! I was super careful, put the iron on a middle temp, went section by section. I kind of took breaks because I didn't want the finish to get too hot. I did a slow 8 count and moved the towel after that count so it wouldn't get stuck on and ruin the finish. Fantastic. I thought my table was ruined. Thank you!

Works best with a very thin towel. A few spritzes of water from the iron and apply steam from iron in a circular motion. With a thicker towel, it takes longer because the heat isn't getting through. With a very thin towel you can see a difference immediately.

It seems counterintuitive to use heat to remove a stain that was caused by heat in wood. Years ago I left a hot pizza box on my dining room table and got a cloudy mark just like yours. I hope this works on mine too! Thanks for your video!

I can tell you exactly why this works . The heat is raising the wood stain enough to make it malleable which after a buff recovers the colour .
Came to say just saved a disaster after Thanksgiving. Ours was a larger and whiter mark. I had to take the heat up to max though which helped. No steam used. I however left a little damage behind since at the end my hands were tired and I left an imprint of the towel on the table. Guess I should stress moving the rag frequently.

Thanks so much for this! I'm at an Airbnb and I inadvertently made a heat mark on the coffee table with a bowl of cooked lentils. I tried the iron technique from an article and didn't get anywhere with it. I moved on to other strategies from the article that also didn't work. I'm so glad I found your video because the trick is a little higher heat than I was previously using and staying with it longer. The owners will never be the wiser. Your "before" heat mark was much more pronounced than mine, so it was quite convincing to see the improvement. Whew, you saved me!

Some of your viewers might want to try a hair dryer. The idea is the same...releasing the moisture trapped under the finish. Start with a low setting for the dryer and gradually move to hotter settings if necessary. Keep the hair dryer several inches from the table as you constantly keep the dryer moving. The potential advantage of this method is you can observe what's happening to the finish in real-time.

It worked great! Use a 100% cotton cloth, something similar to a nice table napkin. Moving the iron and the cloth around the area slowly and stopping randomly for 10-15 seconds did the trick for me, the whole area was clear in about 15-20 minutes. Another "pizza box" incident. :|

I didn't have an iron, so I used a saucepan with boiled water and reheated it a few times using the same method over a tea towel and wrapping the saucepan, it worked!

I was here looking for a solution, because I put a Terry cloth dish towel on my dining room table, and ironed a shirt on it.
Now I have a big white stain very similar to the one you're showing.
Update: I don't have a tea towel; in fact, I had never even heard that term before watching this video.
I used a t-shirt. The white stain I had was quite large - about the size of a dinner plate. I set my iron halfway like you did, and after a full minute, maybe a little more, the white stain started to disappear a little. As I often do, I got a little impatient and decided to try it with the steam. As soon as I turned the steam on, the stain really started to disappear. The whole thing was gone within 30 seconds.
Awesome Dave! Thanks for sharing your results. A tea towel is just a cotton hand towel or dish drying towel. As you realized any fabric that can with stand the heat from the iron will work, t-shirt, pillow case, etc.

That's how I got the marks. i was ironing a patch on a shirt with a towel folded in half under it over my dining room table but I can try. Does it have to be a tea towel? What is a tea towel?

I don't know if it matters if they have the terry material on the other side or they are the same material both sides like you would see in a cloth dinner napkin.

This was a SUPER way to get the table back to normal. Did a shrimp boil, poured hot shrimp, potatoes, corn and sausage on paper sacks and it made a big ragged white mark on the table. Used this, and within 30 minutes it was done!! Awesome!!
