I would definitely pick up the Riposte maneuver, so when you get attacked and it's a hit use Uncanny Dodge and if it's a miss use Riposte to Sneak Attack back as Swashbuckler.

My fav Rogue/Fighter build was a Battle Master / Scout. Maneuvering Attack and Trip Attack were the character's most used maneuvers and these really helped our Sentinel tank position early and get advantage on prone enemies. The PC was also quite the skill monkey with Survivalist and an extra artisan tool proficiency.

You don't lose ASI if you lvl up right. Take 12 levels in rogue and with rogue extra asi in 10th you have the asi increase at 4,8,10,12 levels. Then take 8 levels in fighter you get their asi level at 4,6,8 which is a total of 7 which is the same as straight fighter.

Generally speaking, you'll want a level split of Fighter 11/Rogue 9 or Rogue 13/Fighter 7. With minor variations, you can usually squeeze 6 ASIs out of them depending on what you want out of your character, but you should also be aiming to make your build as SAD as possible, so six ASIs will typically give you plenty of stats as well as a feat or two to add flavor and utility to your builds.
Edit: As a general point of reference, always take 6 levels of Fighter if it's one of the classes you're multiclassing. That extra ASI is incredibly useful and almost always worth missing some other feature.
Situational Edit: For the Arcane Assassin, absolutely sink one ASI into Sharpshooter. Negate partial cover, negate long distance disadvantage, and then pair that with one level of Twilight Domain Cleric to push your Darkvision out to 300 feet. God, that's disgusting. I'm gonna do build it real fast and then never play it. 😂😢

Made her a Wood Half-Elf to get Mask of the Wild and Elven Accuracy, with Charisma to throw in 5 levels of Hexblade for some handy spells and invocations, includong Armor of Shadows and Eldritch Smite for extra damage. Has Sharpshooter and everything.

Personally, one of my favorite Fighter/Rogue multiclasses is a Battlemaster/Scout character (I'll be honest, I have a massive soft spot for the Scout Rogue). It'd primarily double down on the flavor of scouting ahead of the party, using the Battle Master's Tactical Assessment maneuver and Know Your Enemy feature to maybe help get some info on any enemy camps, enemies, etc, while providing expertise in Stealth, Nature, and Survival checks, retains a lot of the Rogue survivability, and is quite capable of providing consistently solid damage output. In fact, when I'm thinking of class builds to achieve that LotR type of Ranger, it's one of my go-to builds.

The extra reach with their long arms really allows for some interesting plans (sentinel is busted here) but also, if you're going for the sniper archetype, the Bugbears extra 2d6 from surprise attack is devastating. I personally think the Samurai part of Ronin can be replaced with Battle Master. Using the Feinting Attack action, you get advantage on your next attack on another creature within 5 feet and you get to add your superiority die to the damage. It's exchanging temp HP for damage, so you'd have to lean a bit more into Con or AC, but it's an excellent way of making your numbers more numbery.

My current build is Assassin + Rune knight. While it’s hard to sell from a flavor perspective, the cloud rune allows advantage on all sleight of hand and deception checks, which is super handy in day to day utility stuff, by tasking five levels in fighter and then the rest in rogue, I can action surge on the first round for four critical hits on a surprised enemy, doubled sneak attack damage, other rune damage if I’ve taken another, as well as the poisons I personally use. I did 166 damage in one round last session at level 11!

I've been wanting to do soulknife psi warrior ever since tashas came out. This week i start a level 6 to 12 game playing a reborn soulknife psi warrior who's whole thing is just being a master thief. Memories from another life plus psi bolstered knack makes it so hard to fail skill checks and the telekinetic movement feature makes stealing so much easier.
I also thought about the potential of being locked in a jail... literally none of your features require you to have any weapons, gear, focuses... so you can telekinetic movement a set of keys to you and use psychic blades to fight your way out.
On top of being the group skill monkey, telekinetic moments can get allies to and from positions super easily and I personally find the protective field to be better than uncanny Dodge since it's more consistent and doesn't have to target yourself.
Between psychic blades, skill boosts, telepathy, telekinesis, awesome damage boosts, and awesome ways to protect allies, I really think this is one of the most overall and all around useful rogue fighter builds in any party. Reborn is just an extra cool touch to it as well since you can watch over the party as they rest and get extra dice to skill checks.
And with thrown weapon fighting style, you get quite an amazing built in psychic kill shot at 60 ft range, not even accounting for psionic strike.

  • @sortehuse

You don't have to do for dexterity as you main stat you can still do sneak attack if you use strength - the weapon just have to be finesse weapon.
I was thinking of making a smugler type fighter/rouge type character with high strength with the sailor background and expertise in Athletics. I would take most of my levels in rouge with the Swashbuckler Archetype and 3-5 levels in fighter with the Battle Master Archetype.
I would take the Brace and the Riposte Maneuvers from the Battle Master and Sentinel feat to get a extra sneak attack as a reaction during my opponents turn.
It's probably not the most powerfull build every - I just think it would be a lot fun.

I have a character named Cassius, primarily a thief but also a psionic assassin. Both outside of combat he’s very useful when needing to get into places, in combat he’s a menace. His build is 9 levels in Soulknife so he can teleport around, 6 levels in Whispers Bard for the extra damage from the Bards Psychic Blades feature being powered by his Bardic Inspiration die, and 5 levels in Psi-Warrior. And since he’s a knife thrower he has Dueling (Since Dueling only states that you need to make an attack with a melee weapon, and not a Melee Attack, and since the Soul Blades are Melee Weapons, they get the +2 to damage, and he also has the Thrown Weapon fighting style, for that additional +2). When his Dex was maxed out he had a +9 to his damage rolls, so with all of his attacks he’d be doing at the very least 30 damage, just from the blades, not counting in the additional 3d6 from the Bard’s feature, or the Psionic Strike. All the while not leaving a single mark on the body. My favorite thing about Cas was that he also had the Actor feat, which when paired with the Bard’s Mantle of Shadow feature, expertise in Deception, and guidance made him excellent at impersonating people as well.
Build was M.A.D as hell but still fun.

Did you consider also dipping paladin? I love the idea of wrecking them with a divine smite, smite spell, sneak attack and psychic blades without leaving a mark. Whispers does allow you to than turn into them and what creature would survive something like that?
The 2 work really nicely together (paladin like duel wielding, get the dueling fighting style, but not the dual wielding fighting style. With soulknife you can duel wield without needing that fighting leaving room for dueling style. If you have a way of getting fog cloud, from Triton or ally etc I do like the blind fighting style) and either fighter or bard is of course always something that you can add to a build with paladin.

  • @Sligg
    @Sligg ปีที่แล้ว +1

I've done a few of these.
The Thief/Battlemaster for a non-magical battlefield healer is pretty good, I used vHuman to get Healer at lv1, then went into Fighter after Rogue 3, taking Crusher at lv4 to make sure I wouldn't have to burn a Pushing Attack to always move enemies into stuff like caltrops with my sling attacks. Thief/battlemaster is also pretty good for a bounty hunter style build, with crossbow expert and sharpshooter you can throw a net at either close or long range without disadvantage, even as a bonus action with Quick Toss. Upon seeing the comment about action surge on this video, that got me thinking of net toss with Quick toss, 2x hand crossbow shots vs a restrained opponent, action surge, ready an attack if they try to escape the net.
Another build that crossed my mind was a Hobgoblin Mastermind 3/Battlemaster X, where you could use the help action as a bonus in general, occasionally peppering in the hobgoblin help buffs, and use one of your attacks to deliver your own sneak attack, and commander's strike to hand off your other attack to an ally, buffed with advantage from your help.

I recommend rogue 1 or 2, gloomstalker ranger 5 , then back to rogue for the rest of the byild. Scout rogue works well, but thief, assassin, and arcane trickster work well too.
At character level 5, you're invisible in darkness and have 2 attacks the first round if combat. After 5 levels of ranger, that's 3 attacks the first round, and 2 every round after that. +1 to both if using crossbow expert with a hand crossbow. Gloomstalker gives a bonus to initiative based on wis so that'll help you go first, so it can be a good assassin build. 5 levels of ranger also gives you Pass Without Trace for +10 to stealth to help get surprise

My favorite multi-class thusfar was a varient human fighter rogue that took the Tavern Brawler feat to be a sort of Gladiator type fighter. I chose Battle Master and Swashbuckler as the subclasses, this allowed me to be quite versitile with positioning and while using only a short sword could let me grapple opponents while stabbing them repeatedly with sneak attacks. Can't say it's the most powerful but combat was always engaging... unless we were fighting something that was too big, not the best then. Still a fun build though, would be great for a campaign where you only fought humanoids.

I went with something similar. My variant human was lost in the fey wild. In spite of the time spent there, he struggled to adopt traditional magic, but was trained in traditional combat anyways. As he grew, the fey wild left him boon as a sign of friendship from faerie dragons and a child of the fey wild, which was a reflavored Aberrant Dragonmark. When the time came, he did develop his own magic powers, but it was a little different. He took up Echo Knight and Soulknife because those are two subclasses that are kind of magic, but don’t use mental ability scores. The appearances of the subclass abilities and the Aberrant Dragonmark were given a gentle glow from various shades of blue, indigo, and violet as a reminder of the faerie dragons that protected him as a child. In short, he played like a slippery little bastard that would warp around the battlefield and refuse to be pin downed and attack with magic blades every once in a while; either from the Soulknife traits or the Sword Burst from the Dragonmark. It wasn’t the most overpowered build, but it was definitely really fun. Speaking of which, Sword Burst is really underrated.

Rogue also gave me expertise in athletics and since I am focusing on strength means that he will very rarely be unable to grapple an opponent. Still don't know what rogue subclass to go yet though as I think most can work so I'm open to suggestions.

One of my favorite fighter/rogue multiclass builds is assassin rogue mixed with echo knight fighter. The reason being is that this allows you to repeated surprise an opponent during combat for massive critical sneak attacks every round simply by attacking from your echo's location then resummoning the echo next round. Such a build can readily be pulled off by 6th level with 3 levels in rogue and fighter. I'd advise picking up the skulker feat, ritual caster feat, shadow touched, and elven accuracy if you can get it. Ritual caster is especially good since it allows you to get regular advantage with the help action from an unseen servant or familiar.

Gerald Worthsome: V. Human ranged 7fighter(samurai)/1rouge with a heavy crossbow, sharpshooter, and crossbow expert. I'll also use a hand crossbow with a shield if I need to tank. Been very lucky on hp dice, so I have strong hp. The rest of the party are spell casters, so they need me on the front line; funny since it's a ranged build. I plan on getting at least 11 levels in fighter and 3 in rouge(assassin) before the campaign ends. Strong ranged damage output paired with lots of hp+ temporary hp from fighting spirit makes for a character that can take hits and dish them out. Should also note that the campaign is a stealthy/rouge-based campaign, so character strength is heavily dependent on what type of campaign you are playing in. I think a ranged samurai assassin can be very strong since it consistently gives you ways to gain advantage.

One important correction to the multiclassing but is that going into Fighter still gives you all martial weapons! They only actually miss out on heavy armor and that’s it!
So honestly going rogue into fighter is the best for Dex builds of all kinds!
The only caveat is if you do any casting builds where con saves are SUPER important for utilizing the eldritch knight and arcane trickster archetypes and their limited spell slots. Though you could easily offset this by going var. Human and taking resilience CON or waiting till either class’ 4th level asi since the magic will be late to turn on anyways. Plus you have to suffice off of racial spells and feats for magic up till levels 3-5 anyways.

Technically the Assassin's class feature that grants you a critical hit, ONLY applies on an enemy that is surprised. Given that surprise rules can be highly DM dependent, and that Initiative is very important when trying to leverage the surprised condition, I doubt players would have as much fun with the Arcane Assassin as with the other builds mentioned.

Couple things to point out that might not be clear to people. Psychic Blades and Extra Attack don't mesh well. You can only manifest one Psychic Blade per attack action, so you need another weapon for 2nd attack. Also unless you do things in right order, it could interfere with the bonus action Psychic Blade.
Also, for Assassin, attacks are only critical hits if they are surprise. Not just if you go before enemy. Most tables I've played at, it is not easy to get surprise on the enemies, and in cases where you can, you're usually alone fighting the rest of the creatures for a round or two waiting for party to catch up.

The one thing I feel you can refine to attract more subs is to try and work on not “reading the script” as much and try a more natural flow to your talking points. Your critique of the Samurai/Swashbuckler was good but you neglected a couple of points regarding using Battle Master instead of Samurai:
    1) Many of the Maneuvers available add their Maneuver die to the damage of the attack, including Feinting Attack. So, that's Advantage for the Sneak Attack, plus the weapon damage, plus Dex bonus, plus Sneak Attack dice, PLUS the Maneuver die.
    2) Out of the gate, the Battle Master gets 4 Superiority dice per short rest while the Samurai gets Fighting Spirit three times per long rest. The big decision of which to take is based on whether you're going to take more Fighter or Rogue levels since Maneuvers only count for the current attack while Fighting Spirit counts for ALL attacks that turn.
I love your channel. Your martini-dry sense of humor is a nice change from the typical 'I'm so zany!' style of youtuber.

I then went Assassin and CR-Gunslinger. Then went to level 4 Fighter and 10 levels in Rogue the party is level 14. Sharpshooter, Skilled, and then ASI to Dex. from Rogue. Then Gunner feat from Fighter. Was thinking about caping my Fighter levels at 5 for the extra attack a round. But will be continuing Rogue levels from then on.

So I have a build question. I have a level 2 rouge, which I plan to take the Assassin archetype as it fits his backstory. However, now that I’ve seen this video, I’d like to multi class as a fighter. My character is a bit more of a melee fighter, though, which clashes with the much more ranged build presented in the video, and I don’t entirely plan on switching to a ranged fighting style. So my question is this: what is the most optimal build for a rouge with the assassin archetype, multiclassing as a fighter, and still keeping that melee fighting style?

There are so many options on my turn between manuvers and cunning action. Feinting attack almost always gurantees sneak attack in niche situations where Rakish Audacity doesn't work, and I can punish enemies when they miss against my 19 AC with a sneak attack Riposte. I would also argue it's more effecttive than the Swashbuckler/Samurai combo since superiority die are more plentiful abd come back on a short rest vs fighting spirit on a long rest.

A Harengon fighter rogue who dashes in, attacks, and jumps back out of combat using a two-handed sword. I might also dip into monk to increase the jump speed but don't know if it can be done well yet. This probably won't be a very stealthy build, just using rogue to increase dueling capacity. Vigilant Blessing gives you advantage on Initiative. Hare-Trigger lets you add your PB to Initiative, and Rakish Audacity lets you add your CHA modifier to it, totaling out to +16 to your initiative *and* advantage on it. May be up to the DM if they'd allow your Echo to do more than just "move there and attack when I do". Like if your Echo could also give the 30ft Help action from Master of Tactics, or make use of any of your skills and be a semi-risk free scout (especially with Echo Avatar at Fighter 7, 8 for ASI) and trap remover. Could summon them to help you flank enemies though (if DM using Flanking rules), and with Misdirect, keep your Echo near you to be your "shield" as it were. Could also use your Echo as a sort of distraction both in and out of combat

      1. You can use sneak attack any number of times you want in a turn
      2. Same with reckless attack
      3. Rage doesn't require a Bonus action to enter , You can just choose to enter rage
      4. Action surge is applied for every single turn , So You get 2 actions starting from level 2 , Every turn , Without even a short or long rest
      5. Extra Attack stacks , So , 1 Barbarian extra attack and 1 Fighter extra attack equals 2 extra attacks in total
      6. Unarmored defence still works when wearing light armor (He is still thinking about this one though , He might remove it)
