We decluttered the kitchen KonMari style. I donated so many dishes, pots, pans and more. I chose to do our kitchen next because we spent so much time there as a family. For everything to have a place in the kitchen saves us so much time and money because I know where everything is. Hopefully this will give you a little cleaning motivation. Have you ever taken the time to set up your kitchen to run smoothly?

I hired a professional organizer after watching your videos about your kids' bedrooms. I felt like you 'gave me permission', in a way. I'm very grateful to have had the help. We got new flooring in December and I couldn't figure out how all my *stuff* should get put away. I worked with her for 3 hours, then finished it up for the next 2 hours, so a total of 8 work hours all in one chunk to completely sort and organize all the things in my living room. I never would have accomplished that alone. I just have too much decision fatigue. I got a lot of push back from friends and family about spending money in this way, so I'm grateful for the support I found here.
My 5 year old is reading over my shoulder and she wants me to add that, although she doesn't know when your birthday is, she'd like to wish you a happy birthday today.

Corelle is what I have (the plain white ones) and they still look good 13 years later. My mom had the blue flower ones and my grandma had the green flower ones. I inherited my favorite Correlle mixing bowls from my grandma - they are teal with farm people on it. I love working with people helping them declutter and organize. It’s one of my passions so I love videos like yours. Everyone I have ever helped were so appreciative and felt so good afterwards.

I love Corelle as well! You can buy just plates and bowls and not just in sets, if you don't need the tea cups and saucers.

I was going to say Corelle as well. I've had mine for 25 years. And I love that it fits so well into any dishwasher. Larger, ceramic, heavier dishes are bulky and take up too much space in the DW. And Corelle is so durable. My mom bought 2 sets for my daughter for Christmas. She's a young adult, just starting out in her own space, and she loves them too.

I am sure she already bought new dishes but I wanted to also agree that Corelle is great! My Mom still has her since before I was born…I turn 40 this year…they are lightweight but they are awesome.

I have plain white Corelli. I like that it goes with however I decorate. I’ve had them for 25 yrs and only broke 1 and replaced it easily.

Last year I replaced all our plates, bowls, etc with Corelle Classic dishes in white. I think they were called Winter Frost or something like that. I love that they are lightweight and stack so nicely without taking a ton of room. They are also super durable.

For our dry skin we added a whole house (brand: April Air) humidifier to our furnace/air conditioning system. It adds humidity in the winter and dehumidifies in the summer, so the house and our skin are always very comfortable.
It was a few hundred dollars very well spent.

I store all of my Tupperware/Pyrex dishes with the lids on them too. It has made life easier. I also realized I didn’t need as many of those items as I thought I did. I kept buying more bc I could never find lids, but now they are visible and easy to keep up with.

We love the tiny bowls for snacks/parties/etc: Bds Signature Housewares Stoneware Printed Small Dessert Bowls- Cereal Bowls - Snack Bowls - Serving Bowls - Pack of 10 (copy and paste info on Amazon search to view them).
Costco also carried them...Our dishes are also all white, and having the little bowls of patterns makes a table look beautiful! They're perfect for Ice Cream, salsa, candy... no design is the same on the inside of the bowl. It's a little happiness I never thought I'd associate with tiny bowls!

I am sure you have already bought dishes by now, but what was a lifesaver for our family of 6 was Fiesta dishes - each person had their own color. As my kids grew up and ate on their own, there would always be dishes left out. “Whose plate is this?” Was always answered by not mine. But NOW I could tell. A green plate meant daughter 3 left it out. Red bowl was daughter number 2. We got special colors for guests and my life has been so much easier!

I don't know where you live but in my metro area we have many co-ops that allow one to bring in any container and refill them with spices, teas, coffees, baking goods, pasta, rice, beans, soaps, oils, etc. First, weigh the empty container note that, then fill with whatever you are buying and whatever amount you require. note the name/code and weight then when going through the cashier they will remove the weight of the empty container before charging you for your contents.
This is very economical. Usually you are getting fresher goods. And there is little waste involved and that is more recyclable and reusable as it is usually a much larger container/bag which the co-op deals with, not you.
You may have gone to a co-op and been asked if you are a member. members are part owners and get to elect the board that makes decisions on running the co-op. usually there are quarterly coupons or such but no discount to members. so don't let not being a member keep you from entering their doors. Co-ops are there for the people. so will often order things special for you at request and can make special diets easier to adhere to.

We have been in our house for almost 4 years. It took me 3 yrs to get the flow and layout of my cabinets perfect! One thing that really frustrates me about our house is not having a mud room. I don’t understand if this is a new concept or what. But living in NY and having all 4 seasons we have so much outside gear. I had to do the same thing and put a small closet system in the garage. I just found your channel and I’m loving it!

I live in a house with no closets. We finally built a pantry so I'm able to put my broom somewhere. 😭
We built a 'mud room' as well by putting curtains up.
We dont have a garage either.
But our house enters into a hallway with washer dryer by the front door. And so I just like cut the hallway in half dividing it with curtains and put a bench and runner and it works okay. 😐

    • @kariannkirk
      @kariannkirk ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@DeathShiniGama House Layouts can be aggravating! Our broom used to hang up by our washer and dryer until our 2 yr old wouldn’t leave it alone. Now it’s locked in the bathroom! Lol our house only has two closets altogether so we turned what could be a coat closet into a pantry. It’s kinda out of the way but we garden and can things so we just needed to make do with the little closet space.

I have a seldom used cupboard, where all the items we do use, but not often, live. I just try to keep the items which are used more often nearer to the front. That way everything I use daily is easy to grab to use and just as easy to put away. Sometimes it's worth stepping back and really taking notice of how you move around the kitchen. My spices are in a drawer to the right of the cooker where I need them, and my mugs and tea are in a drawer directly below the kettle, which is right near the sink where it gets filled.

I bought the pretty jars. Used them for a year. Got rid of the pretty jars (kicked myself for spending the money them!) I do too much cooking to have to refill the jars every week! Maybe it's because I worked as a chef in a professional kitchen (BIG JARS lol!) I need my favorite utensils next to my stovetop too (no fumbling around in drawers! In a professional kitchen, all of the tools hang from "S" hooks out in the open).
So if you don't see yourself maintaining pretty jars - I would use the deep drawer and leave everything in its original packaging

One thing I've found with decluttering is that you look at everything differently. If I don't need it or use it, why am I letting it take up space in my home? And, like peeling the layers of an onion, I go back to the same spots and say...'Well, I haven't used this, this and that since the first big declutter. So into the donation box you go.'

My thoughts on the spice drawer... if you want the pretty option, buy spice bottles that are 8 oz (twice the size of the "normal" spice jar size) so when you have to refill a spice that you use all the time you can decant an entire new container into the 8 oz one withplenty of room even if there was a bit leftover... , and you don't have the store bottles stored somewhere else until there's room like you would if they were 4 oz jars.

We have a big spice drawer right next to the stove and it is the best! I don’t think you would like them in the drawer standing up unless you have labels on the top. You’ll love searching every spice trying to find what you’re looking for. Having them laying down you can see exactly what everything is.

I'm getting closer to being done and once it is it's gonna be nice. 🙂 Then got bookshelves to buy but then my books will have a home. 🥰 Bought a garage cabinet to hold all our shoes at the back entrance to the house. So worth it. Just do the things. 🤣🎉

For dishes - ‘Maze by Gordon Ramsay’ from Royal Doulton is lovely and quite durable. Simple but not boring. Multiple colour options. It’s a box set with 4x dinner plates, lunch plates, bowls, and mugs. I’ve had mine for 6 years without anything chipping.

I am so happy for you. Corelle plain white as another person commented are the best. Chefs will state serve food on plain white dishes. White is the canvas and your food looks so much better without distractions.

We use Corelle Winter White for every day dishes. I went to the closest Corelle/Corning outlet store as they carried pretty much everything. We even use them outside in the summer. They look nice, but they’re not precious so I don’t worry about them.

Corelle Winterfrost. They are strong and durable. They stack very nice and compact. They are white so you can dress them up for holidays with napkins and placemats.

I got rid of all my dishes and replaced them white corelle ware. A stack of 20 plates, I needed so many for an intimate gathering, stacks up about 2 inches. Thats it! They carry it at Target, Walmart or on the Corelle website. Lasts longer, chip resistant. It’s great.

Keeping the tops on the storage containers was a game changer for me. I kept buying new and nesting them. It was a pain to get one out. Then put them back?? 🤔 plus, I had some that I didn’t like to use. If they’re all in use that means there is rotting food in the fridge. Dana K. White was very helpful to me for decluttering.

Kudos to you for asking for help and maintaining the project. As women we tend to put ourselves last and organizing is so life changing. The frustration is gone, the worry of missing something and it turns into a 4 alarm fire is gone and now its a pleasure to our part as family managers in running the home. I have personally found organization saves my time so I have free time to do the things I value with the people I love.

For my daughter the only thing we found that worked for her was coconut oil. We just buy the organic kind at Aldi. It always clears it up and heals it. Especially in the summertime and spring and fall allergies when it flairs up more. A mom suggested it and it always works. Like her skin would break and bleed from scratching. So if I see the rash or dots appearing we start use a couple times a day and just rub a little on and it soaks right in. It heals it so good. Like in a week it completely clears up if it was bad. We have done preventive use too.

Costco has a set of white basic but still pretty and functional dishes for around $27 the name is “ Over and Back” Saint Germain , I’m sure that you will love them. They meet all the expectations that you said that you wanted in an everyday set.

I see I'm not the only one who came down here to recommend Corelle dishes. Up until last year, I was using the set I inherited from my parents that was bought in the late '70s. Still going strong and tucked away safely for now. I "upgraded" to plain white ones simply for the aesthetic.

Corelle plates and bowls are fantastic and super durable. Their white 20 oz bowls are great for cereal, salads, entrees, and easily fit in dishwasher. I am very happy with their Italian-inspired Portofino collection. God bless you

a wide flat drawer is good for a utility drawer: it means having spare pens, pencils, tape, markers, tape measure, ruler, screw drivers and paper for children/adults to use. a deep drawer is great for spices (I had one in my previous rental and it held all the spices I thought I needed --- 50 or so --- and I miss it. I had to buy a Raskog cart for my current place since it has so few drawers and mostly too small at that).

I also started storing my Tupperware with the lids on them and I can only keep what fits in my cabinet! If I need a bowl, and don’t need the lid, I place the lid on my drying rack and as soon as the bowl is clean and dry, I replace the lid and return it to its home in my cabinet.

I loved two statements you made in this video. One was pat yourself self on the back if you get up and overcome whatever obstacles and do all the things you do. My son passed unexpectedly dec 2021 so 2022 was hard living our normal lives and coping with grief. My husband also has fibromyalgia(going through the disability process)and has been unable to work so i am the major income source. I am not debt free, quite the opposite with doctor bills but i have been trying to shed things not serving us purpose in our lives. For example, vehicles, household items, unnecessary bills and trying to lower bills, making my house simpler to keep up, everything i can control right now. The debt i am still perfecting a plan on how i can feasibly start making a dent but one day i will take care of it all i know. I have tattoos on my feet that say "let go, let God", if i focus on what i can do and leave the rest to God i know we'll be okay. I also loved was 2023, 2020-me. I have been reading, meditating, practicing yoga, having a summer garden to nurture and trying to analyze/come to grips with my headspace for the last year. Enjoyed the video and commentary.
