Matthias Jabs is criminally underrated as a guitarist.. He has always been one of my favorites.. The man is a machine on the guitar!!!! Love the Scorpions!!!
Many people think that’s Mathias’ weak spot as a player - he is very machine-like, which is why Rudolf usually plays lead on the ballads because Mathias doesn’t play with a whole lot of emotion. Don’t get me wrong, he rips on the heavier songs, but is more of a technician than a “feel” player. Rudolf is just the opposite, so they make a great pair!
What's amazing is that this song (and album) 'Blackout' in 1982 was recorded after a 1 year delay because Scorpions' lead singer Klaus Meine was diagnosed w/ vocal polyps in 1981 and needed surgery... the doctor actually told him he may not be able to sing again. Klaus had the surgery and couldn't speak for months... he told the band to get a new singer, but Rudolf Schenker (guitar) and the rest of the band were loyal and said they would wait... After months of vocal therapy, Klaus finally regained his voice and returned to the studio to complete vocals for the album... it proved worth the effort, outselling the previous album and made the Scorpions a global success 🤘🤘🔥 FYI - everyone assumed the guy on the cover was guitarist Rudolf Schenker... but it wasn't. The German artist Gottfried Helnwein did a self portrait for the album cover - but it resembled Rudolf Schenker so much when the album came out 😂
One of my favorite albums back in the day, the song "No One Like You" on this album is one of their best, you could literally pick anyone of these songs! Also, another great Scorpion song is "The Zoo" that is a must listen too!!!
My boys! This was a song about the time when Rudolf got so flat out blinding drunk, he was breaking things in the hotel bar and then completely forgot everything the next morning. smh They are ridiculous LIVE, you need to scope their US Festival, Moscow Peace Festival and for sure Rockpop 1983. Glad you enjoyed Matthias Jabs' solo. Miss these guys so much!!

I am glad you are doing Blackout. We need to dispel this notion that the Scorps are a ballad-only band. They are true hard rockers and the 80's albums are the pinnacle of their career. Lovedrive, Animal Magnetism, Blackout, and Love at First sting are albums that you need to check out. "Rock you like a hurricane" should be next.

If you listen very close you can hear the riffs and licks of Michael Schenker one who was always helping the Scorpions with writing some of their songs. Michael who was a founder of the Scorpions with brother Rudolph and Klaus was with UFO and later formed his own band MSG. between the years 1972 through 1982 were the best years of the Scorpions, Michel left the Scorpions in 1974 and was replaced with Uli Jon Roth who left in 1978 and in 1979 Michael came back to help with the Lovedrive album and toured with them that year till Mattias Jabs joined. it is a beautiful story in the rock history of the Scorpions. in fact, that entire album is classic and a masterpiece. He thinks he made Scorpions what they are, but all their hits were written by Rudolf Schenker, Klaus Meine and Herman Rarebell in some configuration. As great as he is, Michael never had a hit of the magnitude of Rock You Like A Hurricane, Still Loving You, No One Like You, Wind of Change or even Rhythm of Love or Send Me An Angel. Rudolf helped Michael out financially for many years when Michael struggled with alcoholism and drug addiction. It’s typical for addicts to blame the people closest to them, who often help them most, for their own poor life choices. Michael has been his own worst enemy for decades and Rudolf has become his scapegoat. It’s petty jealousy, IMO. What a shame.

This is the Scorpions we old fans remember and love . . . long before "Wind Of Change" made them the soundtrack for the fall of Communism. They'll be eating lunch on that happy accident of history for the rest of their lives, but everyone who remembers the pre-commercial Scorps cringes every time they hear it. Hope to see you doing more of their earlier work.

Another great reaction. This is my dads favorite band, I’ve seen them live and I love their music. I would suggest to give their song Holiday a listen.it’s slower kind of like wind of change, but it shows their range and depth, and is such an amazing showcase of their guitars. If you think they sounded great on the album you would've been blown away seeing them live! Especially back in the 80's where they really peaked. I was fortunate to see them many, many times including the 1986 tour in San Diego, CA where they filmed part of "World Wide Live". Phenomenal band and a bit of history for you. Their guitarist, Rudy Schenker, is none other than the brother of famed guitarist and former member, Michael Schenker, who played with UFO and later formed MSG (The Michael Schenker Group). Two more awesome bands for you young ladies to check out and I hope you do. Rock on!
Michael didn’t form UFO. They had two studio albums and a live one before he joined in ‘73. The Michael Schenker line-up with Paul Raymond on keys and second guitar is the definitive version of the band, though.

I skipped my high school graduation to go and picked up my diploma at the office a couple days later! 🤘🏼😆 Also that year, I saw Maiden open for Priest and that was also one of the best shows I’ve ever seen! Back in the 80's and 90's I saw the Scorps in concert at least 6 times. I have never heard guitars harmonize better than at a Scorpions concert, it genuinely gave me chills each time I saw them, (and I have been to literally hundreds of what is now considered "Classic Rock" concerts). At each concert Klaus Meine (the lead singer) would open the show with the following speech, which was always the same words: Ve're chust five good Cherman boys und ve're gonna rock you babeee!!! (Just trying to give you the flavor of Klaus' German Accent.) . They have many hits and great tunes that didn't become hits, receiving limited airplay. This entire album is amazing and I would love to see you girls react to the rest of the tracks, especially China White. Other songs from them worth checking out are many, but some of my favorites include: Make it Real, Don't Make No Promises, the Zoo, Animal Magnetism, Lovedrive, Hey You, Rock You Like a Hurricane, Coming Home, Big City Nights, Still Loving You, Rhythm of Love, Tease Me-Please Me, Don't Believe Her, Hit Between the Eyes, Alien Nation, and No Pain-No Gain. Please give us more Scorps reactions, you girls are so much fun!

@Starman62 - The guy on the cover of Blackout is not Rudolf Schenker, it’s a self-portrait of the artist, Gottfried Helnwein. Rudolf realized he resembled Helnwein and depicted him in the video for No One Like You and at times on stage during concerts. I saw the Scorpions at the US Festival in 83. It was a 4 day festival to launch the MacIntosh. Steve Wozniak was there in some tents behind the audience. I stood right next to him but couldn’t figure out why they were selling computers at a rock festival because NO ONE had a computer in those days. The lineup on Metal day was; Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Triumph, the Scorpions and Van Halen. Unfortunately, David Lee Roth was too drunk to finish a song and we left half way through Van Halen. Scorps took the show! The next year, I saw them on the Love at First Sting tour and Bon Jovi opened and got booed because it was before Slippery When Wet. I’m sure your dad was there.

Not really heard a lot of Scorpions stuff, but that was a pretty solid track, and as you say the balance of instruments and voice was really excellent with them blending together very well. Another great video to check out is the Scorpions performing “Sails Of Charon” in 1978 on the German rock tv show “Musikladen”. The lead guitarist, Uli Jon Roth, is one of the greatest ever. The Scorpions have put out excellent albums since their first in 1972. If you’re looking for hard rock with a great singer any Scorpions album will blow you away.

Their guitarist, Rudy Schenker, is none other than the brother of famed guitarist and former member, Michael Schenker, who played with UFO and later formed MSG (The Michael Schenker Group). Michael didn’t form UFO. They had two studio albums and a live one before he joined in ‘73. The Michael Schenker line-up with Paul Raymond on keys and second guitar is the definitive version of the band, though.

@@playbassken - That’s insane, man! I saw Scorps with Rainbow in a double-headliner in ‘82 with Riot opening. That was pretty wicked! I skipped my high school graduation to go and picked up my diploma at the office a couple days later! 🤘🏼😆 Also that year, I saw Maiden open for Priest and that was also one of the best shows I’ve ever seen! Those were the days, eh?

Saw the Love At First Sting concert, excellent!. They are from Hannover, 🇩🇪
Back in the 80's and 90's I saw the Scorps in concert at least 6 times. I have never heard guitars harmonize better than at a Scorpions concert, it genuinely gave me chills each time I saw them, (and I have been to literally hundreds of what is now considered "Classic Rock" concerts). At each concert Klaus Meine (the lead singer) would open the show with the following speech, which was always the same words: Ve're chust five good Cherman boys und ve're gonna rock you babeee!!! (Just trying to give you the flavor of Klaus' German Accent.)
. They have many hits and great tunes that didn't become hits, receiving limited airplay. This entire album is amazing and I would love to see you girls react to the rest of the tracks, especially China White.
Other songs from them worth checking out are many, but some of my favorites include: Make it Real, Don't Make No Promises, the Zoo, Animal Magnetism, Lovedrive, Hey You, Rock You Like a Hurricane, Coming Home, Big City Nights, Still Loving You, Rhythm of Love, Tease Me-Please Me, Don't Believe Her, Hit Between the Eyes, Alien Nation, and No Pain-No Gain.

@Starman62 - The guy on the cover of Blackout is not Rudolf Schenker, it’s a self-portrait of the artist, Gottfried Helnwein. Rudolf realized he resembled Helnwein and depicted him in the video for No One Like You and at times on stage during concerts. I remember listening to this Scorpions album when I was 11 years old, back in '82, yes I'm old LOL 😆😆😆 I have a suggestion for you guys for International Monday, that band is UFO. Lights Out, Doctor Doctor, or Love to Love are great songs, you can't go wrong with either of them. I saw the Scorpions at the US Festival in 83. It was a 4 day festival to launch the MacIntosh. Steve Wozniak was there in some tents behind the audience. I stood right next to him but couldn’t figure out why they were selling computers at a rock festival because NO ONE had a computer in those days. The lineup on Metal day was; Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Triumph, the Scorpions and Van Halen. Unfortunately, David Lee Roth was too drunk to finish a song and we left half way through Van Halen. Scorps took the show! The next year, I saw them on the Love at First Sting tour and Bon Jovi opened and got booed because it was before Slippery When Wet. I’m sure your dad was there.

Not really heard a lot of Scorpions stuff, but that was a pretty solid track, and as you say the balance of instruments and voice was really excellent with them blending together very well.
By the way, Mia, I could see through bits of you ... your shirt had some green lighting zig-zags I am guessing! :)
Another great video to check out is the Scorpions performing “Sails Of Charon” in 1978 on the German rock tv show “Musikladen”. The lead guitarist, Uli Jon Roth, is one of the greatest ever.
The Scorpions have put out excellent albums since their first in 1972. If you’re looking for hard rock with a great singer any Scorpions album will blow you away.
