I've been using the 34C since December of last year as my first safety razor. Now, I wanna venture out to a 37C slant bar. Thanks for the 411. Love the videos.
I have watched lots of videos on youtube about shaving and your videos are by far the best I have found. I have watched just about every video you have made, love the details and the extent you go to. This is the next razor I'm getting for sure. Thanks and keep up the good work!
@@nickshaves - I have this Razor and it is great! Going to try going WTG, ATG, and then XTG though. I think I might be pressing a little too hard AGT and I have to use sharp blades for my face!
i have a gold Merkur 37G where were discontinued and echo your sentiments. I like your reviews in a growing crowd of wet shaving videos, you are creating a corner of your own. I love looking at your reviews which are pretty accurate and not so fan boyish like a few others out there !! What stands out to me is the focus on the product and fast forwarding the non-essential stuff which holds attention to the main item in review. Love that about your videos and do keep that up.
I have been using the 37C for years. I use Derby blades and get 7 days out of them. First pass with the grain, second against, this works great for me.
Nice review. I have also got my 37C a week ago and it is really smooth razor. But you must have soft hair, because with just 1 WTG I dont get even close to BBS. I must perform WTG, XTG and ATG, then sometimes also corrections - I have a "metal brush" beard. But its really better for me than the standard close comb razor like R89.
Hey, I'm Rajan Sharma from INDIA, Merkur 37c, has become my daily go to razor since it's purchase, I use Gillette black blades, that gives three shaves and that's fine, razor is not at all aggressive but very smooth and efficient.
I think I might like one of those at some stage - I am loving the Merkur short handles and a slant looks like time machine to me (a time saver) - it'll get you DFS with little effort and probably less irritation over all.
First shave with a slant. I had issues with the Merkur HD and the Feather seeming to slow down and not cut. This was the least irritation shave i've had.
Its amazing! I tried Astra's in my 34c - with bad luck. That being said - the 37c really makes pretty much any blade amazing. I need to give Astras another try
Just shaved with my new Merkur 39c slant and what an amazing shave. Razorock XXX, Captains choice lime AS, and Gillette 7 o'clock super platinum black wrapper blade. Perfect shave, no nicks or issues until the last pass and the slant bit a mole on my lip. Never nicked it DE shaving or straight shaving and this puppy bit me. Definitely more aggressive. Alum block stung a tiny bit on the chin, but otherwise perfect.
I have the Razorock German 37 Slant which is very similar and it is my BEST and only razor I use now. I use a Voskhod blade for a perfect shave every time. I am tempted to get the Merkur version ......because the slant works so great for me ~! Kit
Nice vid thanks again. Can I ask how you clean off your pucks after shaving? Do you rinse them off with water or just wipe them clean and let them air dry?
I get 2 to 3 good shaves out of a persona blade in my 37c. I can only use it when i haven't shaved for a while tho, if i try to use it every day it tares me up.
Totally! I get 2 shaves with mine. I have tried doing 3 shaves, but I can immediately tell that the blade is too dull. This is a great razor that I love having around for a few days of growth
nick shaves ya my every day razor is an Edwin Jager DE89l, I love that thing. but when i take 3 or 4 days off from shaving the 37c gives me such a nice comfortable shave that the next day I will think, man that was so good yesterday I'm gonna try it again and BAM! it rips me apart. my skin is just to sensitive to use it like that. gets me every time.
I own a Edwin Jager DE89l and it was my first DE shave, loved it, no nicks either. I recently bought a Merkur 34c HD and am really happy with it. Feather blades are a bit too sharp for me, but the Derby blades have become my favorite blades. I too have days where I am in a rush, I'm so glad to come across this video and believe the Merkur 37c will be my next razor. Thanks for all the great videos!
nick shaves I use the 37c as my every day razor and it never rips me up. I typically shave every other day, My facial hair is very coarse. I am assuming this is why I can use the 37c more often then you gentlemen?
Thanks for the review. I do have one question: you said that you only use the slant when you are in a hurry-why not use it every day? Kind regards from Amsterdam
Moderately thick beard but fast growing. Using a Dorco 301 blade in the 37C in 2 passes (WTG & ATG) I get BBS. The Dorco 301 lasts me 4 good shaves and 1 acceptable shave. I toss the blade after 4 since they are so cheap. With a Personna lab blue I can get 5 to 6 good shaves but need to be more careful since the Dorco 301 is more forgiving. I do not find that the blade dulls quicker in the 37c. Instead I find the blade more less gracefully dulled, if that makes any sense. In other words, the drop off from a good shave to a dull-bad shave is much more steep in the slant vs a straight bar for me.
Nick how do you like the merkur slant compared to your new ikon 102? I only have a 34c and looking at buying the merkur 39c slant with the barberpole handle? The ikon seems a little too expensive right now for me and I love merkur and the 2 piece design. Thoughts?
Nick, I'm new to DE razors, and my switch from cartridge was mainly to reduce/eliminate a little neck irritation I get from shaving. After 1 week or so, I notice the redness has reduced, but not completely eliminated. Do you have any piece of advice for me? Do you think the 37c would help me on this matter, since I can go for a single pass?
Some people like the 37c and get less irritation with it. I recommend checking the direction of hair growth on your neck and only shave in that direction. And get some alum! That really helped with me
I would recommend to try a different blade, and soap. It made a tremendous difference in my case. If you are new to this, some experimentation (and bleeding) will be necessary until you find what works best for you.
I have both,,, 37c and 1904 open comb. The 37c as he said, is more efficient not more aggressive. The 1904 is just way too mild. I prefer the 37c over the 1940
Hi, Nick. Thanks for the review. I'm curious, if you find the 37c so efficient and like it so much, why did you say you don't use it every day? Just curious, really, since I'm waiting for my 37c to arrive.
I was wondering the same thing nick. Like if I was only going to buy one razor should it be this one? Or is there a good reason not to if I'm only willing to invest in one razor. Thanks

Thanks! I really appreciate the support. The 37c is a sweet razor, its always gives me great shaves

Manish Bhoola, I second that. Detail where it counts and fast forwarding the non-essentials.

@@shyamkant11 Shave quality is just awesome and you can even very easily go against the grain with this razor.
Thanks Rajan Sharma sir 👍👍

37c is my go to razor. The best shaves I've got so far comes from Astra SP's, although I'm lucky to get 2 shaves from them. Give em a try.
Its amazing! I tried Astra's in my 34c - with bad luck. That being said - the 37c really makes pretty much any blade amazing. I need to give Astras another try
I now have the 34c but after seeing how efficient the 37c is; I might just get one after watching your video.
How did this perform on the jaw line? That's my trouble spot.
Nick, I use the 37c as my daily shaver. I mostly use Sharks and Voskhods and get 2-3 shaves out of it.
Nice +1. I also use the Voshkod in the slant. Perfect combo
Just shaved with my new Merkur 39c slant and what an amazing shave. Razorock XXX, Captains choice lime AS, and Gillette 7 o'clock super platinum black wrapper blade. Love my 37c. I use what ever blade I have in hand and they all seem to work well. I do a wtg and xtg and done.
I agree! This razor makes any blade work and in terms of efficiency, its hard to beat. If I am really in a hurry, I can do a single wtg pass
I have the Razorock German 37 Slant which is very similar and it is my BEST and only razor I use now. I use a Voskhod blade for a perfect shave every time. I am tempted to get the Merkur version ......because the slant works so great for me ~! Kit

Great video Nick, I have been on the fence about getting this razor. But after watching your video I'm definitely going to pick one up.

Same here! I can't use it for my every shave - its a bit too intense. But once a week and it is amazing!

My go to razor...I use usually an Astra SP or my favorite, GSB
I have the 39C and love it. I use Voshkod blades and get 3 good shaves from it.
I need to try Voskhod blades! I have been hearing a lot of great things about them but have yet to try them. Thanks for posting!
Great shave ! Can someone compare 37c with Yaqi slant . Thank you
You should try the Maggard slant razor, I haven’t seen too many videos on that one. You can get different handles for it too
One of my favorite razors.👍
I can't wait to get this razor on Friday!!!
Hey can you do a shave video with C. O. Bigelow shave cream in the green tube?
Bc of your video I am trying this blade. Thank you!
what would you say is the most balanced/ even the best slant razor? i use merkur 34c HD and considered buying a slant razor
Moderately thick beard but fast growing. Using a Dorco 301 blade in the 37C in 2 passes (WTG & ATG) I get BBS. The Dorco 301 lasts me 4 good shaves and 1 acceptable shave. Johnathan Chen What the heck does BBS stand for?

Nice Review on the Razor Rock German 37 ....I just got one OMG works sooo great ! I tried with a Wilkinson Sword Classic Blade from Germany. Kit
Hi Nick
Great review the razor looks nice I think I will try the 34 c first.
Roger
Roger - the 34c was my first razor, and continues to be my favorite
Hey nick nice shave buddy
Nick how do you like the merkur slant compared to your new ikon 102? I only have a 34c and looking at buying the merkur 39c slant with the barberpole handle? The ikon seems a little too expensive right now for me and I love merkur and the 2 piece design. Thoughts?
next time i use mine im going to try one of the dollar store DG brand blades in it you get 5 for a dollar. I'll let you know how it does.
I've heard about those! Let me know how it goes
In my Murkur razor I use Voskhods. Or sometimes Astras
When you shave straight down you get all the hairs since it’s slant razor ? 🪒
Hello. I've already have the M. Progress. Do you think is a good complementary razor?
I'm curious what it is about the 37c that keeps you from using it every day. I've enjoyed your videos, keep em coming.
Thanks! I could use this razor for every shave, but I have so many other great razors that I like to rotate. But it could be my everyday razor.
ihow much was that slant bar wanna get me one
is a slant better for shaping beard and mustache ?
Good review! 👍🏻👍🏻
the asta blade i think are better than the fether blades

Cold water shaves help with neck irritation.

How does it compare to merkur futor?
In your opinion which is more efetient the 37c or the 1904/1906??
I have both,,, 37c and 1904 open comb. The 37c as he said, is more efficient not more aggressive. The 1904 is just way too mild. I prefer the 37c over the 1940
I love my 37c. I am going to sell my Gillette Ball Tech because I find those razors are too mild for me.
Hi, Nick. Thanks for the review. I'm curious, if you find the 37c so efficient and like it so much, why did you say you don't use it every day? Just curious, really, since I'm waiting for my 37c to arrive.

Sold me Brother, I'm gonna get one
Is this noob friendly? And can it be used everyday?
Is the Merkur 45c bakelite a slant....?
No.
I have an Ikon...love it.
I have heard amazing things about the Ikon slant. I really want one! But its on the expensive side for me at this point
Can you shave upwards with these
Lol dumbass
Couldn't you just take your standard razor, tilt it at an angle, and viola! Slanted?
but it would be hard to maintain that angle, although it is doable.
It is not just a slanted blade, but it kind of twist the blade a bit
Pretty sure that was the start of the Gillette gimmick slope that got us to where we are now with five blade cartridges.
This will be my next razor..
Are there any razors you DON'T like?
Razors are not the matter, technic is all...
What are your thoughts on this being someones first safety razor? Good for a beginner, or is there something more suitable to start out with?
It can be very aggressive for a first razor. A vintage Gillette or a 34c might be better for a first razor.
I went with the 34c in the end... been using it daily for the last 3 weeks, its great!
don't get a slant until you have a good technique
