Hi Nick. Really enjoyed it. I picked up that razor about six months ago and liked it right away. And like you said the price is right. I always try to make it a point to keep my hands dry with any razor reguardless of the knurling. No real slipping that way. Thanks for the video.👍

This is what I lovingly refer to as the "gateway drug" razor... I picked one up on impulse two months ago and immediately noticed a huge improvement in my shaving results. Now I have at least ten razors, a half dozen brushes, a dozen soaps, tons of splashes, balms, etc. and there appears to be no end in sight. Despite a brand new Rex Ambassador, I with the Wilkinson Sword razor today just for the nostalgia. Or something. :)

Just a reminder: with TTO or butterfly razors, always remember to tighten it before each pass, they can loosen a little and that can give you irritation or unwanted pull or bite.

Wasn't the first Super Speed head in the late '30s Gillette Milord Tech, followed by the Ranger Tech in 1941, and the 40s style Super Speed after WWII? I think the black handle Super Speed started in the 1960s, and continued to the 1980s. It's strange that various manufactureres still copy the Super Speed head, others copy the 1960s Gillette Tech head, while Gillette is now copying Edwin Jagger and Mühle's head. What goes around never ceases to come around. FWIW, I agree that Wilkies are good blades, but decidedly middle of the road. Best wishes.

When Wilkinson came out with the bonded blade, they sold the right to make DE razor blades under the name Wilkinson Sword, to a German company; the blades in this video are Wilkinson Sword in name only (and very mediocre). Gillette bought Wilkinson Sword (the company, not just the name), and are making the DE blades in India. I've shaved with both the German and Indian blades, and the Gillette blades are vastly superior to the German blades.

I really like this razor, my favourite blade out of all the ones I tested in this razor are the Gillette Nacets. They provide a really good shave and I manage to get upto 10 great shaves before the performance drops, my second favourite is probably shark platinum followed Gillette permasharps but both of those only last 4-5 shaves and are on par with cost.
I only have one other razor though, The Lord L6, I find this is better if I've gone a few days without a shave, it cuts through longer hairs where the Wilkinson Sword classic premium struggles. Its a more aggressive razor then the Wilkinson Sword, you can actually feel the blade with the Lord L6. The Wilkinson sword feels super smooth and is also less prone to nicks, the Wilkinson is my daily and the Lord L6 is my goto when I've not shaved for a few days. I'm attempting to use the L6 a bit more to hone my skill a bit but it feels super close and I've still not perfected using it or found the best blade to fit the aggression (my comfort blades tend to pull in this razor).

    • @micheals1992
      @micheals1992 4 ปีที่แล้ว

They're not exactly cheap either. I found the blades included with this razor to be unusable for me, I would have probably given up if I didn't pick up some personna blades (for 1/4 of the price of the WS blades) which I found was extremely smooth in comparison to the Wilkinson's sword blades which seem to pull and nick. The personna blades just glide through the hairs with no drama.

It’s like the Gillette TTO from the 60s, my dad had one. For a beginner it’s a very good price and with a Palmolive soap stick and a €5 Omega boar brush you’re in DE land for less than €25!
I’m selling it again now and I bought a Muhle R94 Rocco and a Fatip slant!

Wilkinson Sword were there right at the beginning of the DE razor development, a traditional British company based in the steel city.....such a shame their razor is made in China, the whole point of these products is the quality, heritage and ceremony.....I'll buy their blades, but not this razor.

Tomorrow I'll be using the Catie's Bubbles Le Piment de La Vie Luxury Cream from the 2015 era. Possibly my favorite shaving soap in my entire collection and I pair it with the high end Creed Royal Oud cologne (actually it's an eau de parfum strength). So glad Nick Shaves came back.

Can you recommend a brush, blades and razor for someone like me who has never used a safety razor? I wet shave with disposables but would like to do it like this but there is *so* much product out there I am confused. Thanks :) ps I'm in England so I may not be able to get anything you suggest

It's really curious to me: how would perform cheap disposable 1-blade Bic Metal to standard safety razor like 34c or this Wilkinson. It's also 1 blade, but what the difference?
BTW, I'm looking to buy a proper safety razor, but now I'm learning from your advices with cheap 1-blade Bic.

Beautiful golden doodle. Thanks for taking a moment to show him off a bit.
Soak a badger or boar brush in a 10% peroxide 90% water, overnight. This isn't strong enough to remove color, but seriously reduces the aroma.
I prefer the TTO razor as well,. I twist open a little when rinsing, as this gets all the stubble and soap out. Tighten back up, keep going.
Thanks for covering this razor. Most TH-camrs show razors I'd never spend that much money on. This one is one most could buy and use. And as a mid aggressive, it could be a daily shaver.
I recommend Feather blades. Yes, they are considered one of the sharpest blades available. You're shaving to cut hair, not tug and pull hair. In a mild to medium razor, with a lite touch, they cannot be beaten for the smooth shave, in less passes, and lack of iteration from grabbing hair instead of cutting it.

Hey Nick, I bought the Pre de Provence No. 63 shaving soap and it is loose in the tin. How do I maintain the soap and keep it from getting gooey and slimy from water getting underneath the soap? Do I lather in the tin? Or out?any idea how to care for soap pucks like this?
It smells amazing btw, you are 100% RIGHT

Just started getting back into safety razor shaving again. Personally I like it a lot. I've got one of the wilkinson sword black 3 piece razors (where the top pops off) it's small, maybe a bit small for my tastes, but works great.

There are two different versions of these blades...Ones that are made in Germany and ones that are made in India...The India blades ones are the good ones...read the amazon reviews. I ordered a 100 pack of the India version and they worked great. Takes like over a month to get them though.

After watching your video I bought this Wilkinson Sword Safety Razor! Thanks for the video, I like the butterfly feature on it. Have you ever tried using the Merkur Super Platinum blades before? Given how expensive they are, I was wondering your opinion on them? Thanks again, and looking forward to the next video!

Hi there, I've enjoyed watching all your videos and thank you for the good insight to shaving. I am switching over from using disposable. please can you tell me right off ! out of all your shaving trails- what razor will give me the best and closest shave ? what razor blade would you rate the closest sharpest shave? also- if I bought the Wilkinson Sword Classic Double Edge Safety razor- would these blades fit into razor ? Feather +
Blade: Gillette 7 oclock> or would i have to buy he actual manufacture of razor to match the blades ?

I don't think I've seen you review the Rex Ambassador adjustable stainless steel razor yet. If you haven't had the opportunity to use one, I can attest that they are on a different level. The Timeless razor with the .95mm gap is also worth a try. It also is on a different level. Excellent video, as always and thanks for the info.

I bought the razor just to try my first twist to open. I used an Astra blade (1st use). I felt a hollow chatter to the blade which wasn't too comfortable, and haven't used it since. I think I will try it with a known sharper blade next time.

I think it is a mistake to test two unknowns together (i.e. the razor and the blade, both new). How do you know the burn was not due to one or the other or both?
