    Do you use either of these microphones for your podcast. Share the link to your show, we'd love to have a listen:

      @@partha95123 indeed it can. And either mic will sound great. Especially I when you ad a few effects in post production.

    SM7B is definitely a better sounding mic for me. But the SM58 is also a good choice! 💯 Love the content.

    The Irony about the SM58's "muffled" sound is, that it would be equally clear to the SM7B, just by using it at the same distance between the actual microphone capsule and your mouth. Just give the SM58 5 cm / 2 inches more distance to your mouth, than the SM7B and you will have a lot harder time, telling those two microphones apart. At least, until you start to use the dip switches on the SM7B's back. Why is that? Just take a look at the microphones. The SM7B by design forces you to keep that distance to the microphone capsule. It has a metal cage on the SM7B, which keeps you from getting as close as you can get to the capsule of the SM58.

      Proximity effect makes such a big difference.
      You can EQ all day long and at the end 2cm more or less make a bigger difference than any EQ.

    I beg to differ it is definitely not worth the $400 price tag especially when you consider that you have to spend another $150 on a cloud lifter to get it to work correctly. The sm7b is indeed a legend in the broadcast and studio world but it's become a pop icon and people buy it because it's a status symbol

    • @podsoundschool
      @podsoundschool  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear that. It’s gotta be because it looks so cool. About the cloud lifter though. I actually think those aren’t really necessary in most situations. I do just fine cranking the preamp up. What are your favorite microphones??

    • @JimHancock
      @JimHancock 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      considering the SM-58 uses the same capsule, there isn't enough difference to matter, a good foam windscreen, a shockmount, you would have a hard time telling the difference... ...... you are only paying for status with the sm7b but that is something, just not $450 difference considering the SM58 doesn't need a cloud lifter..

    • @larryhinze9314
      @larryhinze9314 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also have a Miktek PM9 and PR 30 that I do podcasting with...and use a 50 dollar (or less) Klark Technic CM1. It is very clean and you don't need to buy the more expensive Cloud Lifter. But, the SM7B needs the cloud lift more than the other mics. I can say working at radio stations that the SM7B is a favorite with all the audio processing.

    Sir I am very confused. Which audio interface and mic should I get? I want to do professional poetry recording. In which my words will go high and also come down emotionally. My room is not sound proof. And I have a budget. $300 to $400 in which my entire setup is made.

    • @podsoundschool
      @podsoundschool  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think your best bet would be the Shure MV7. And a pack of acoustic tiles. It’s not important that your room is sound proof, but it’s important that it’s not “echoey” or “reverberated” The MV7 is a mic and an interface in one

    • @podsoundschool
      @podsoundschool  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally get it. And with using a standard microphone, you also need to buy an audio interface, which will run you another 150 minimum. I think to start with a USB microphone would be your best bet. We really like the Samson Q2U.

    Upgraded from a Blue Yeti to the SM58 (with Focusrite Scarlet Solo). I'm happy with the results.
    The SM58 rejects way more of ambient sound and fits my living room environment better than the Blue Yeti.

      I decided for the SM58 against the SM57 because of the metal grill. I can take of the grill if I want to but I think it is quite nice with the grill for voice over.
      I can talk a lot more relaxed if I don't have to think about plosive sounds that much. I even got me an additional pop filter (a flat fabric one in front of the mic) but it is not even needed.

    I have found the Audix F-50 is half the price and has a less muddy sound than the 58. I just got one used for 20 bucks like new...be ready to buy a nice preamp for the SM7B and/or a cloud lift to get it to sound great. Then the SM7B will sound the best by far. Don't forget your pop filter!

    I’d like to see some blind tests of podcasting mics. BTW, while you can hear a subtle difference with high quality headphones it’d be very hard to differentiate under average listening conditions. Also BTW, I once tested the cheapest Behringer dynamic against an SM58 and there wasn’t much difference.

    • @podsoundschool
      @podsoundschool  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I should do some mic showdowns. I know what you mean. I like to test mics with the effects that I plan on using, specifically compression. Then you rally hear the exaggeration of the qualities and noise level.

    Which mic would you say it's more "nasal" sounding? Sm57 or Sm58? (or in comparisson to other mics) And btw great video!!!

    • @podsoundschool
      @podsoundschool  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      🤔 I think the nasal sound you’re talking about is also kind of the “muffled” sound??? Different mics will react different to diff voices. What sounds nasal on you might not on me. But the SM58 does have a little more muffle to it than the 7B. You can offset that effect sometimes though, by adding compression later on.

    Have you guys tried the Maono tech AU PM 22 ? I’m considering this mic

    • @podsoundschool
      @podsoundschool  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We haven’t, but Moano does make decent microphones. This mic is a condenser mic, which means it will pick up more of your room sound and background noises. So you would want to make sure that you don’t have too many bare walls. Maybe add some curtains or acoustic foam to a wall or two I. Your podcast studio.
