Hey! Just a little tip for something i like to do is to put the halter on while they are in the pen, then feed them outside the pen. So lead them to where they eat! Its kinda like a reward for putting the halter on! I do this with my calves too! Then once they are used to that i start walking them to different places! Great vid btw!!!😊
Found this again to help my cousin's grandkid! Good job! I've trained horses and goats. I will add: when haltering, work from the SIDE not in front of (mistake I've seen with ponies and goats) when leading helps to have a tappy stick in your hand to "touch the butt", or someone walking behind to do so... you can use a rope looped over the butt (works on foals) too clicker training is also wonderful: click=treat (repeat)...then mark the precise behavior with a click... you can use a tongue click rather than carrying a clicker
when training with a halter I recommend using a halter that doesnt tighten on their nose, when the halter tightens on their nose it causes them to freak out and can cut of the ability for them to breath trough their nose. i have found that a halter that buckles works best.
I agree. I had two goats one year and decided to test the theory of rope halters vs buckle halters. I found that the goat trained in the buckled halter responded better and was a more responsive walker overall. But then again there is the issue of finding the right sized buckle halter.

Quick tip you're going to love. No effort needed just a handful of sprouts any kind will do or if they were bottle fed bri g the bottle with water in it and they will walk really well and they learn super quick so its a win win for both. Thanks for the great tips!🐐
This video was great for my 6 year old open class girl!! This is our first time showing, the county fair is 3 weeks away and we just started halter breaking today!
A lot of kids in the FFA is dragging their goats we are just being patient and waiting on him. We do carry it sometimes but mostly we slowly just walk with him jumping around lol. We aren't sure if we're suppose to be dragging him like everyone else? Any tips?
I just stared getting into 4H and I’m doing a Pygmy goat and I have no idea how to show😫 show time doesn’t start until August but if you could respond or someone could link me to another video that could help.... thanks!
I have four Pygmy goats I recommend getting a older doe that has been showring and is very tame. Don't get a weather for you first Show goat that was my mistake he was very big and tried to boss me around a lot I also don't recommend getting a baby goat because I'll be hard for you to show .you probably need a black collar and a short black lead or you can have one of those chain collars and a short black lead and check out the channel called dark horse she has a video on how to get a goat ready for a show
Hello! My Goat pulls, jumps and tries to back out of my halter when I try to walk it and I have been working on halter training for a month. What do I do???
Keep it up but make sure to also give her some love so she is not scared of you give it a drag and dont forget to make sure it is comfortable with you good luck
hi I know this video was posted awhile ago. if I have nigerian dwarf goats what would be the helpful side of teaching them on a halter as of now I normally just walk on a show chain or use their collars.
Hey put a halter on a larger goat and tie it to the other goat. in a field with no tree's or posts . And let the let them go for a hour or two.after a few day's they will lead after a while.
@@Oshkdl she literally says "maybe for a couple of days tie your goat to the fence" She does not mean anything else. This is a unhealty advise of here and no one should follow that. It's even animal crualty. The knot is so short the goat is unable to eat, drink or move.
@@paulinebrus7580 no tie it for like a half hour everyday Oml I live on a farm I raise goats and chickens ducks a rooster sheep I think I know what I’m doing

But halters that buckle don't fit on younger kids..... plus when they come off the pressure the halter releases

I agree but its extremely difficult to find a halter for a young goat, especially if your like me, who has dwarf goats.
Where do you buy halters fir goats??

Thank you for this will help me because I'm training my goat rn.
I am in 4-H and show goats my tip is if you want them to be collar trained i would not halter brake them first. I start my goats at 2 week old.
Is there any hope in teaching older goats who have never been haltered?
Awesome advice, great walk through!

super newby here. What's the point of halter training? And why not just use a collar and lease?
You do this for 4-H goats a lot but we call them leads and a halter is kind of like a collar but with no leash
My goats are too big to carry... but a handful of nommy goat food helps! Good video, carry on!

do NOT tie on the fence for a few days!! That is so unhealty for the goat. Do not listen to these girls please!!!
