    Three years of service for $5 with one part replaced for at least another 3, that's a good design for sure!

    Go to a machine shop and have a custom bracket milled out of aluminum. It will never break again.

    • @AfterimageFlight
      @AfterimageFlight  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good idea; making the whole extension and bracket together would probably be something they could do. I might have to look into cost and compare to printing or buying the extension.

      Yeah . To be real 3D printing is probably just as good and cheaper too...but boy there is nothing like a shiny freshly milled/turned aluminum part.
      P.s. Your setup is super cool 😎

    RIP kludge angle mount. $5 for... 5 years of service, I think?

    What would you recommend to get for war thunder, and ocasional planetside 2 joystick gameplay?
    Which joystick, and maybe some additional keys? I did play joystick and I liked it, but it was shitty one.

      It really comes down to budget and how much effort you want to go through for setup. For Planetside 2, you don't need very many buttons at all. You do want 5 analog axis, for Pitch, Roll, Yaw, Heave and Thrust (Surge) though. So that is at least a dual stick configuration with twists.
      I'm not at all familiar with War Thunder, I've only played it a few times many years ago so I would have to look into it.
      The last stuff I've used was a X52, X55, Warthog, Double WarBRD (Alpha and Delta), and now the CM3 base.
      I would avoid the Warthog stick at any rate, for sure the ball gimbal on it and the way the stick works is just not suitable for Planetside.
      X52 will work as a single device so setting it up to work for Planetside would be easy, I have used it before in Planetside way back when it came out.
      X55 had some QC issues.
      If you can afford the bases, go for WarBRDs at the minimum, they're worth the money over the other options I've tried. The CM3 base will let you double up a left stick as a Throttle so that could cover both War Thunder and Planetside, and potentially anything else you want to play. Thats the more expensive route though.

      @@AfterimageFlight I just want 1 decent stick for now - would be great if i can mount the base to my desk as well.

    • @AfterimageFlight

      @@def6420 Based on what I've used, I would say the WarBRD Base and either a WarBRD grip or an Alpha grip. It's more expensive than plastic options, but it has a really good gimbal, and I've used a WarBRD base exclusively with all the videos I have on Planetside, so you should be able to see what's possible with it. :)
      WarBRD grip can be configured to have twist, which if you only have the one device, is a must. More than enough buttons on it, but if you want something with more buttons, Alpha also has twist.
      Other than that, you could try something from VKB, I hear they are good but I have no first hand experience with them.
      Thrustmaster T16000 is a good starting stick, but they wear down over time.

    Hey man! been a little while since i last spoke to you, but this video reminded me that i haven't uploaded my virpil omnithrottle design to printables yet.
    If you still have your 3d Printer, the design is really easy to print, PLA should be fine also, you just need a few heatset inserts. If you don't i should be able to arrange for a friend to print the parts and send them to you.
    The omnithrottle has a fixed angle at the moment, but i can adjust that very easily. if you would like me to send some pics, i can pop some in a google drive
    As a little side project also, something you may be interested in, depending on your use of the flip down triggers, but i went about creating a very simple mod that converts the flip-down triggers into a rapid fire forward backward trigger, similar to the ones on the gladiator GNXT.
    ive got a couple other little projects in the works also, warbrd dampening for example, but the two things above are finished, working well in my setup, and could really use a Beta tester that i know actually uses their sticks in a way that would highlight any flaws.
    if you are interested, just let me know, happy to help you get your printer on its legs if it isnt already, and i still have your TS info i believe!

      That looks nice and clean. I have never used a 3d printer at all, I don't own one. Most of the stuff I have done is made of MDF, plywood, sheet styrene plastics, etc.
      I use the flip trigger on the Alpha to control the behaviour of head tracking.
      The WarBrd dampening sounds very interesting - one of the reasons I am upgrading to a CM-3 base is to have the dry clutch to hold the Y-Axis in place for probably what's going to be the best option for space sims (plus using it as a throttle in other games).

    • @AfterimageFlight
      @AfterimageFlight  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I actually prefer that compared to VirPil's design.

    • @leddhedd
      @leddhedd ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AfterimageFlight haha, the Virpil one came out a few days after i finished my first version of the design you see there, and i was a little dissapointed, i wanted less stick out on the left hand side of the stick, and the virpil one doesnt do that at all, and its all to gain a little adjustability in the tilt angle, which you will likely set once and not change again to get the stick balance correct. my design lets you choose an angle block, and that is screwed into the top.
      i finished the first working prototype of the dampeners today, they are working on both sticks currently, but im not 100% happy, the damping force isnt as adjustable as it needs to be, but im limited by the internal space pretty hard, but there are a couple more avenues to explore. this design requires no more than you would need to do with a cam change, but to get a propper damping action as it is on the CM3 gimbal may require relocating the hall effect boards, but then perhaps not, a little more experimentation is required!
      Regarding the 3d printer, i can arrange for a friend local to you to print the parts out and posted, ill arrange that at some point. do you still have the TS server? if you PM me here we can exchange some info and i can fill you in on the details, perhaps get some feedback

      @@AfterimageFlight I dont know if you have ordered a CM3 base yet, but if you are aiming to get it predominantly for the dead stick and damping, you might want to hold off. i dont want to oversell what ive been working on, but it is currently damping all oscillation completely, operates very similarly to the CM3 with an adjustable tension arm, and its working to dead stick with a very nice feel. i don't think it will hold the weight of a collective on an extension like the CM-3 would, but thats fine. if you need that functionality, you should buy the CM-3
      (i MAY have also figured out how to toggle the spring on and off, so you can toggle, per axis, between just dampener and dampener with springs+cam
      could be nice to be in dead stick on the left side for leisurely stuff, but toggle back into standard stick mode for space combat, have to wait and see on that one though)

      That is something I could look into once I get the CM3 base, so I won't have to worry about installing a throttle.
