    I remember finding a VHS copy of hype at a flea market around twenty years ago and I remember being blown away when I watched it, still today even after watching it probably a hundred times at least it still remains my favorite documentary and all the music that came out of Seattle during the late eighties and early nineties still remains my favorite music to listen to, I feel so much nostalgia when I listen to the music it's hard to put into words, I feel blessed to have experienced the music as it came out and it doe's make me sad that the nineties in my opinion was the last great decade for music😢🎵😢🎵😢

    • @omfug7148
      @omfug7148 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      same here, I was older in the 90's--in my 30's but I was living in Seattle loved the music and used to see people around town, I listen to music from the 90's more than most music from the decade, the '70's, when I was a teenager.

      @Von_Nightmare_ Luciferian She only withheld Chris's guitars because he wasn't paying the child support they agreed on. Susan Silver worked hard and Never screwed CC out of money. You are thinking about Vicky Karayiannis. Get your facts straight before commenting. Susan Silver is still respected by mostly everyone, ( including Chris Cornell's biological family to date) Too bad Chris left the woman who truly loved him.

      It might help to look a bit more into some of what happened that was pretty awful towards the end of their relationship and how he had to take her to court in order to get HIS numerous guitars back along with other stuff - you never mess with a man's guitars.. Lovely Lily was a blessing. Chris did great things because Chris was a true authentic talent, totally true to himself musically and uniquely gifted. She was also quoted as saying that Chris got back with Soundgarden because he 'had nowhere else to go' and that his solo career was going nowhere - as someone who saw Higher Truth tour I would have to disagree. He did a lot of amazing things with Soundgarden and separate to. There was no classy reason to say those things.

      We're due for a new rock scene to RISE!!!! To me there are bands around that have a grunge mentality rooted in their music. With a sludgey, stoner, doomy style sound. Some are kinda commercial.. but awesome rock/metal acts get snubbed for stuff thats not even as advertised or labeled!!!! Music is faceless & has been without an identity for a while now..... SAD

      Most of the reason is that people who play rock music are uncreative and/or want to just do what the classics already did. What I mean is that they're not creating anything new, they're just trying to relive/recreate the past. None of the younger generation that plays rock music even seem capable of making something creative and memorable. Mainstream rap and pop aren't totally to blame for the supposed "death" of rock.

    The scene didn't die the bands just got old and like every scene you are lucky as a band to keep your crowds through your 3rd album let alone 5 to 10 albums later. Fans move on to new bands and new sounds. The Divorce and Deathcab for Cutie became the new scene in Seattle, essentially Emo/Rock is what the scene became and we still had great bands come out of Seattle and burst on to the national scene. Just not at the Nirvana level.

Listen to this songs for understand: Soundgarden - Beyond the wheel, AIC - Love hate love, Soundgarden Power trip, AIC-Confusion, Soundgarden-Circle of power, Nirvana-School, Nirvana Negative creep, Nirvana Blew . I've heard a number of people talk badly about her. Of course I can't speak to whether she's a nice person or not - I don't know her. But I still think that she's a badass for managing two huge and heavy bands for so long. Gotta admire her for that, as I'm pretty sure women were way underrepresented in that capacity in the music industry at that point.

    I love this update, but I’m deeply disappointed they didn’t cover Layne Statley of Alice In Chains. He was the frontman of me of the Big Four of Grunge. I wish the moviemakers could make an expanded documentary that includes Layne and Chris. Rest In Peace to the both of them.

    • @SlavomirG
      @SlavomirG 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vinyl is horrible too and makes no sense at all nowadays. A good tape is able to sound as good or even better than vinyl but we already have superior digital formats like FLAC. The rest is just nostalgia bullshit

    • @PYC334
      @PYC334 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      after some research it rather turns out that cassettes are superior to vinyl, actually. no one really bought the actual good tapes, made out of metal and with high quality tape materials because they cost too much money, and you know how analog stuff is..it's only as good as what you listen it on.
      but vinyl is good for one thing..it doesn't work with overly compressed modern production, so in order to do a vinyl release you gotta produce things better. it's probably part of the reason everyone thinks it's so good. also a reason why not everyone releases vinyl records nowadays.
      and no matter how much i'd hate to admit, digital is superior to analog, it really is. but we love to hold on to the tactile feeling of analog things and the flaws it has.

      My friend was an accountant for SubPop after she split with Chris Cornell and they dated for a while starting in late '02 and well into '03. He said she is the very definition of a "lady in the streets and a freak in the streets." I know guys can exaggerate but he's always been a straight shooter. He said her thing was "anything goes" so long as there was no cheating. She called herself a "try-sexual"; water sports, ATM, exhibitionism, rimming, toys, watching porn together. They broke up but stayed friends and she helped him score a job as a staff accountant at Gold Mountain.

    The one cool thing about grunge was as a kid I was always wondering what other bands sounded like. I went from listening to Pearl Jam to diving into the Wipers, Joy Division, Hazel, Dinosaur Jr. I mean there were bands out there that were just as great if not better that I could have been listening to. And that was grunge for me.

    I understand why Alice in Chains wasn't mentioned at all. To my ears they were definitely Sabbath influenced heavy/doom metal. Early Soundgarden and the Melvins are metal as well but with punk elements too. But they associated with Sub Pop. AiC never associated with Sub Pop and neither Jerry Cantrell nor Layne, Sean for that matter didn't like the term 'grunge'. I don't like it either. I mean it just seemed to me as a marketing catchphrase to pigeonhole the Seattle scene. Nothing else.
