      Yeah. She's really a great woman who i think deserves to be admired for what she has contribute to the industry and not fall to the abyss of modern social justice, pathethic feminist all that bs. I have respect for all she had done with the ryzen and vega to bring back AMD in the competition after so long. At least the consumers now will look back at AMD with excitement for all their much appreciate work and vision.

  • @Imasundaj
    @Imasundaj 6 ปีที่แล้ว +67

    She looks so proud of that CPU. Great work from everyone at AMD. After a bit of a rough start with Zen, then a "fix" with Zen+, and now with Zen2 they really did it. At this moment, Intel has no chance. They have nothing to compete with Zen2 Epyc. I'm a bit worried though about the I/O die. What kind of latency will it introduce?

    • @mikuzoid
      @mikuzoid 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      apparently it's supposed to fix or at least reduce latency we'll probably find out more closer to launch

    • @Imasundaj
      @Imasundaj 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@mikuzoid Yes, I know it is supposed to reduce latency. But we all know that on Zen1 and Zen+ the infinity fabric causes rather big delays when a core needs to access memory through another core. So now every core can access the memory through ever memory channel. Which eliminates the penalty of having to go through another core. But now there's a die between the memory and every core on the package. As you said we will have to wait for launch to get the answer. And I can't wait.

    • @XavierXonora
      @XavierXonora 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Latency shouldn't be an issue, they have a die designed specifically for low latency IO. The only reason it was an issue before is because it had to travel from memory into a cache then across infinity fabric to another CCX. Local CCX access was fine.

    • @XavierXonora
      @XavierXonora 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Imasundaj you're correct, but as I said above the additional die is designed specifically and solely for distributing data

    • @Imasundaj
      @Imasundaj 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@XavierXonora And you are correct as well. It was indeed designed to be an I/O controller, so there shouldn't be much latency. I just can't shake the thought. But we shall see when it is out. I can't wait.

      well at this point is actually a clever move
      first make viable to glue together some cpu dies in a modular way and boom, you dont have a size limit and you can make different products, like one die is the 2700x, 4 is Threadripper and 8 is epyc, 3 mayor products, one die size manufacturer... simply genius for a low budget company like AMD

      @d1oftwins 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well that's the beauty of chiplet design CPUs. The dies are small which makes the waver yield greater, the binning for different CPU types and performances is an affair of playing LEGO. A good yield is almost a given with AMDs architecture, not bad for a "glued together" CPU, don't you think?! ;-)

    • @ILasaroff
      @ILasaroff 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are correct. I agree that it is a step in the right direction. I currently work for the company which produces the lithography machines as an Electro Mechanical Engineer. AMD's success in the 7nm node feels like a "personal accomplishment". Consistent 7 nm "good yield" is a marvellous accomplishment it should not be treated as a given, but rather as a result of very hard work and dedication. Not just from AMD but from ASML as well. I wish them all the best. The industry needs them right now.

    At first I thought that was main CPU die in the middle, along with eight dies of HBM for cache.
    That I/O chip sure is huge since it uses 14nm, maybe to cut the cost since I/O is less performance-demanding than CPU.
    Is it really okay to produce that huge I/O chip? Since more size=less yield. She said 14nm is matured, so, well, it's still profit I guess. Clever way to put older technology to good use.

    It's interesting that AMD created such an advanced product in anticipation of Intel *finally* getting their 10nm process online. Funny thing is, Intel might miss another deadline or two AGAIN. In addition, Intel might have their severe production shortages lasting well into 2019. I would urge AMD to keep their foot on the throttle, kick Intel while they're down and kick them *HARD* . AMD badly needs both market share and mindshare to stave off future difficulties and to keep their R&D labs fueled.

    Meanwhile Intel couldn't deliver 8cores/16t without overheating XD

    • @Koeras16
      @Koeras16 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course they did deliver. At 5 GHz a lot of chips struggles with thermals. But most chips will run just fine at 4.8 GHz. Of course benchmark wise that would make the I9 9900k in most scenarios slightly slower than the I7 8700k IN gaming...
      The issue with Intel is more around price. Paying more does not give that much more in this instance.

    AMD can't afford tripods? Why is the I/O die so large?... It does have 8 channel memory...

    • @infernaldaedra
      @infernaldaedra 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because this CPU has alot of I/O the main reason they did this was to keep the latency of the cpu cores as low as possible. And the large number of memory channels/pcie lanes/infinity fabric just a massive amount of I/O really

      I wonder if it could be that the IO-chip also has level 3 or even level 4 memory cache?

    • @infernaldaedra
      @infernaldaedra 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wonder as well. It could be one of the reasons the die is so large but would be quite a interesting design. Typically Larger cache sizes are central on AMD architecture but with these core chiplets it is quite a strange design.

    Now we need a GAMING SERVER CPU something like that.
    1 HUGE core on 5GHz like the IO die, and then multi 8 core dies around it.
    Cause game servers are still struggling on those slow tiny 1 cores!
