    This is not a criticism, but all through this video the emphasis has been about the ohms reading of the pickup coil, a 200 ohm or 400 whatever ohm pickup will work, but everybody seems to have completely overlooked what the extra 2 wires do, the black and white wires. These stators have 18 poles, only 17 poles are used for the charging (the 3 yellows, 1st phase 6 poles, 2nd phase 6 poles, 3rd phase 5 poles), the 18th pole is is independent and that is connected to the white and black wires in the plug connector. The purpose of this is a safety feature, the ECU detects a signal from that one 18th pole Coil, when the engine is turning, if there is no signal or an incorrect signal then you will not get a spark. It detects that the engine is rotating in the correct direction, it prevents "kickback" from the engine when starting which can shatter the starter motor train gear, quite a few 4 stroke quad bikes have this safety feature built in. As I said the ohms reading of the pickup will make jack difference, it's the 18th coil that is the problem, it's either been wound incorrectly or back to front. I have only known of a few of these Chinese replacement stators for these bikes actually work straight out the box. I have sold a few that I have had to rework that 18th coil, and they all then worked using a 200 odd ohm Pickup coil. This is one of many stators I rewind for a living.

    I have had issues with RM stator as well. Where a regulator/rectifier was not preventing over voltage at high rpm. They did eventually accept as a return.

    I have a factory DRz 400 Stator you can have.
    It stoped charging but the bike still had spark.
    I just tested the Pulser coil and I get 483 ohms.

    Have you tested resistance of the oe stators including the one that was previously replaced prior to the kimpex one? What reading do you get? Is it possible to wire in the "pulser" from the original into the kimpex part? Barring that, I would recommend you just go buy a replacement from Suzuki.

      No the Owner binned the old stators before I could get my hands on them. My first idea was to scab the Pulser/pickup coil from the old stator if it was good. He now knows to hold on to the old part till the new one is installed and running and sometimes even then! ;) I have tested the Stator Pulser/pickup coil and Signal coil in My DRZ400 as a benchmark and it is within Suzuki specs. That’s part one of this DRZ project and should be up on the Garage channel this weekend.

    I noticed when you checked the resistance, your fingers were touching the leads, that could be a contributing factor in a false reading?

    I watched a video from Bennets Bike Social on here, about chinese copies of uk specialist motorcycle parts. It was a real eye opener as to how the cheap aliexpress etc parts look identical, but can be incredibly underperforming and or out of spec and or ill fitting/finished.
    As you said in the vid, no problem on expendable parts like mirrors etc. . but I'd be hesitant now to put anything that 'matters' on my bikes.
    And as for gopro, they are utter junk. Every new model seems less useful and has more issues than their earlier ones. Victims of their own success?
    Thought provoking and interesting video lads, cheers.

    Wow. So disappointing. I have a drz 400 2001 and I love it! But I’m going thru the same thing. Why can’t we find a generator that fits our bike? Why is this so hard? The mechanic that currently has my bike said my bike needs a cdi and a generator and hasn’t been able to find either and will give up in 10 days if they can’t find these items. Crazy I know. I’m thinking of just buying a used drz 400 all over again. Seems easier than finding parts for it.

      @@RaggedRoadsMoto appreciate it. I already took the winding off my pickup coil to the stator. My pickup coil is part of the stator, so I'm going to have to get wire and wind it and epoxy it myself and hopefully get 170 ohms. The oem stator is a hard to find part for my 1996 ktm 250 sx. I had no continuity to the pickup coil, so i think its still sparking, but not timing right with the bad pickup.

      You would have to find the specification for your specific bike, but 200ish ohms seems to be common.

    I am running into the same issue with my 03 DRZ400S. My previous (original) stator was not charging my battery properly. (less than 12.5 volts), I swapped my stator for an RM stator and now I have no spark also. I also tried swapping the blue/green wires and still nothing. I also tried swapping the black and white wires, also nothing. I am having the same confusion as you regarding the pickup coil. My manual states 390-600 ohms is acceptable but the RM Stators pickup coil measures 214 ohms?? Just wondering if you ever got anywhere with this? To make things more confusing I actually reinstalled my original stator and now still have no spark? Could I have damaged the CDI in the process of swapping wires? Thanks for any info.

    • @jasonjanzen7189
      @jasonjanzen7189 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @snakevale198444 so I actually found the problem wasn't the stator at all but rather the idiot installing the stator (myself of course). The pickup that gets installed on the cover can actually be installed backwards, meaning that the pickup can get installed so that the pickup no longer lines up with the magnet, and your stator doesn't actually think your motor is turning over. I had to take it apart 3 times after noticing thus really dumb mistake. I reinstalled the pickup correctly and boom there was spark.

    I'm having a hard time with mine. It stutters at full throttle and is very hard to start sometimes. I have no clue what could be the issue but my mechanic thinks it's the stator. When you changed the Stator did you change the pulser coil. Have you tested the ignition coil? What makes you so sure it’s electrical?

    • @evandavidson1651
      @evandavidson1651 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RaggedRoadsMoto yessir I used the one that came on the stator. I used a 100$ kit from mad hornets. But what points me to being electrical is my mechanic went over valves (they were spot on) timing (spot on) and cleaned and rejetted my carb because it was off a little bit. None of this started happening until my old stator and/or regulartor went out leaving me stranded. Thats when the stuttering started and hasn't went away even tho I fixed pretty much everything that could cause a problem like that. Unless it could be the coil under the tank? I've read forums, watched videos, made post and I can't get pointed in the right direction. Even my mechanic is stumped but he's pretty sure it's the pulser coil as well
