I remember listening to the Big Finish Highlander audio episodes in my car when I was driving to work but I only listened to the first two or so. I must get back into them!

I bought audio CD 2, 3, and 4. I enjoyed kurgan rising the most. It explored something I would always interested in. What would happen if it mortals fought on holy ground. They once brought up the eruption of pompei in tv series. I think it would have made a great reunion movie for after endgame and instead of the source.

I think the appeal of Highlander may have also been an issue. Big Finish produces full-cast audio dramas and standard audiobooks. Sometimes these audiobooks feature one actor or two. Naturally the expected return on investment will dictate the route that the company takes. These readings sound well produced to me, but properties like Doctor Who, Dark Shadows, and Blake's 7 lend themselves well to audio storytelling and the fans/purchasers are accustomed to this. I think Highlander fans may have expected a bit to much from the format and for the niche audience that it would sell to.

    I mostly disagree.
I think the concept of the Quickening being something that can be manipulated was really good. Through 'fattening up' an immortal (as Joe called it) or by experimental procedures in 'Love and Hate' (which doesn't entirely rule out the need of the white diamonds for the process to work, imo) and up to using holy ground combined with specific architecture in 'Kurgan rising'. The secret of the sword is just a filler, not special and not really interesting to hear about some superstitious mortal who once held a sword.
The performance of the actor however is beyond poor and THAT is what makes the first season of the audio-books jarring.
The second season keeps this theme of the manipulation of the Quickening and takes it to the horsemen to run with. Especially the stories of Silas and Caspian are very nice in that regard but Kronos and Methos open and close this arc nicely. The second season is a good step above the first one in terms of story and acting.
Like all entries in the Highlander Universe, this exploration took a premise and added something unique to it.
I wish people would shine their light more on the good aspects instead of constantly criticizing and nitpicking about everything.

I bought one of these stories from Big Finish. They have since lost the rights. The download has been lost to a computer crash. Does anyone have a way I can listen to "Love and Hate?"
