I am 65 and have listened and loved Mikes music since 1973. (Work it out 😜) My favourite album. Superb listening. Everyone involved can feel really proud. I’m absolutely astounded !!!! Lots of love to you all ❤️
Brilliant, saw Mike Oldfield platinum tour 1980 on the 7th of May pierre moerlen on drums and Maggie prior, the high point was ommadawn that evening which I still regard as the greatest piece of music ever delivered to our lucky listeners, this was a great rendition you took me back to that amazing concert nearly 40 years ago, thank you all 👍
Spot on Stephen Ommadawn is the best bar none. This is a superb rendition. I too remember the platinum tour (Stafford) blew me away!!! Hooked ever since 👍
@@bobchurunkle9921 Hi Bob. Maddy Prior of Steeleye Span sang with Mike on the studio album of Incantations and on the subsequent 1979 tour. On the Platinum tour of 1980 it was Maggie Reilly, who then stayed with Mike for a few more years. But on your main point, yes, Ommadawn is supremely wonderful.
I am a bit of an Oldfield fan and I know every note of Ommadawn, I play a lot of it on my guitar. You have mastered the sound perfectly and you all played it great, I loved it.
It's one of Mike's very best compositions! It introduced me to African rhythms when I was a very young kid. It opened a huge number of doors for me! I was STILL reeling from "Tubular Bells" and "Hergest Ridge" when this album came out. I would lock myself in my bedroom and listen to this many nights in the dark.
It's so great to finally start seeing some Oldfield music on TH-cam and realizing that people from different parts of the world come together to play some of these masterpieces. Congratulations, your performance is amazing.
Brilliant. A production of love and appreciation of something wonderful from our past. What do I have to listen to at our leisure centre. Rap or hiphop with maybe two ideas and processed by computer program.Nihilistic sentiments in ine pitch..
Speechless. Amazing and faithful rendition - note perfect and captured the emotional content of the music beautifully. Stunned that you could make this sound so wonderful live. What a talented gathering of musicians - thank you!
Hmm being a perfect rendition isn't always appealing. They have basically copied the knebworth 1980 live version, the drum solo at the end giving that away
@hotpotato4027 I prefer a live of a live reproduced live, but not live version of a studio live. When you say I'm a strange one, you simply will not believe how strange I am. Anyone into Mike is a weirdo. Me included.
Superb performance they were wonderful, glad they got a standing ovation as it was well deserved. Good this was recorded, however I wish I had been there too.
Your rendition of this wonderful, yet complex and difficult modern classic, is brilliant. I can only guess how hard that was to put together - but you did it - live too. Thanks for posting.
Fantastic. Really catching the sound and timing of the original quite well! Incredible! It would be great if you were coming to the Netherlands. I'm sure Mike would be proud of this achievement.
It's half past midnight BST and I've come back to this to chill before turning in. In reality, it'll be playing in my head and keeping me awake for a while yet. Brilliantly faithful to the original recording. Also interesting to see the 2 styles of the lead guitarists (one finger picking, the other with a plectrum) sharing the solo at 10:07. Hugely enjoyable!
Astonished by this. Like many comments below, I reckon to know every note and nuance of this - one of my favourite pieces of music in any genre. I also heard it played live by Mike & Band in 1980 -I think this is just as marvellous. An outstanding effort.
So many kind of different Musics I was listening in my life and still I do. Mike Oldfields Ommadawn and Tubular Bells was a really important piece of work for me. It went very deep into my soul. All that freaky times and crazy Moments at that time coming up again. Hergest Ridge was also an important Piece. But something happened and makes me scared to listen to it: Always when I listen to that music in the resent years, something bad and strange happened to me. And now - sadly - I don´t dare to hear that Music anymore. So sad. And ist such a wonderfull Music.
Asktelevision Martin Gremmelspacher I have almost the same problem with Hergest ridge. When I bought the album I listened it every day.One of those days my pet died, and still now almost 40 years later I remember that sadness when listening Hergest Ridge.Music is powerfull reminder.
I'm sorry for the reasons of the feelings you guys have for the album Hergest Ridge. But in my opinion this is undoubtedly Mike Oldfield's most perfect and well-developed album. Unlike Tubular Bells that is a true collage of different musical pieces very well connected, Hergest Ridge is a composition perfectly integrated in itself with a theme so beautiful and versatile that allowed him unfold it repeatedly with different arrangements underlined by unexpected harmonies, so brilliantly solved that it doesn't let us realize that we are almost always listening to the same theme. Hersgest Ridge has sound phrases hidden in its guitar lines that are pieces extracted from its original theme, so well inserted that I continue to discover throughout these 43 years. It is a stunning work that has given me so many positive and refreshing emotions that I would never reject for any trauma or sadness... and I confess that I have had many in my life and I have always relied on music to relieve myself of them. Sadness is only one point of view... and trauma is the continued acceptance of this point of view ;)
Give it a try! I reconsidered myself after so many years! Hergest Ridge I bought second hand 76 and was my second lp bought ever. Transformation to CD and very lately streaming put this very much to the backyard and very lately I found again a very close connection to Hergest Ridge and Ommadawn! Tonight Ommadawn was the lullaby for our son with 8 years!
That was superb. Have listened to this album and TB since I was a kid. Never got to hear it live before..but that was really great was with you all the way, your interpretation of the album is really exciting and fresh too!
Espectacular.
For a multi-track recording work to completely recreate it LIVE is simply a real hard job, maybe, next to quitting smoking. haha... In fact, even MO themselves could never have done it well on stage. So you guys no doubt made a great achievement that you can all be proud of!!
Wow, this was all played very well and the instruments choice was quiet perfect (except for the soundbanks the synthman has used imho) making everything sound like streamed direct from the album itself (or was it just playback)! Especially the grand finale from 16:55 is EPIC!!!! Another bonus is the excellent female choir of course (sending flowers to the tall beauty in the middle ;) PS: Mike just dropped me an Email and he said he is proud of you guys ;o) !!!
Okay, we got just a LIIIIIIIIIIIITTLE bit lost at that last bit, but it's live, stuff happens, and aside from that small hiccup, it was damn near a flawless rendition. Bravo! They need to get mad props for having attempted it at ALL! Oldfield even had problems replicating his own pieces LIVE!
so glad ommadawn is performed as a 'piece'. thank you. sounds amazing, wish i was there to hear it live. You nailed the female backing vocals on the final climax so perfectly ( 18:13 - 18:45 ) Mike made that sick, spine chilling vocal arrangement probably while having apocalypctic visions of gods and demons fighting in prehistoric africa :D genius.

I agree Ommadawn was Mike's masterpiece.. Seen him that Yr in Macroom on the same bill as Van Morrison
You mean Maggie Reilly though
I meant maddy prior of steeley span but you could be right 👍

got any tabs for the guitar

this is absolute perfection. please come to ireland
Very moving to hear such a lovingly reproduced rendition of my all time favourite piece of music. I really cant believe what these guys have achieved!

Stunning! Wonderful! And much more difficult to play live when you can't wind the tape back and record a track again!!

Chills, goosebumps, tears of ecstasy...
You've made it your own while managing to remain so very close to the original.
Thank you.
Just now stumbled upon this. What a gorgeous rendition! Thanks to all the performers and to the person who posted.
Superb interpertation of one of my favorite albums ever, and my favorite from mr Oldfield!
wonderful performance too
Una maravilla.
Me quito el sombrero con vosotros.
Masterful. Congratulations.

Nicely done rendition...makes me wish we had more Oldfield recitals here in the U.S.!
Sadly Olfield's music has never been a succes in the USA, only through the movie "the exorcist" that W. Friedkin took from his Tubular Bells...
