Great info...I LOVE my 50mm 1.8D on my Nikon D750, with great autofocus and super sharpness!

I have a tremendous amount of respect for the 50mm lenses. They are versatile and dependable for photographing my grandchildren who cannot sit still.

Your points are valid, but I question your resolution nod to the G lens over the D lens for f1.8 50mm lenses. DXOMARK gave a one perceptual megapixel advantage to the D over the G on both the D800 and the D850. Personally, I don't think a human would really perceive that very small distance, but I doubt the G is sharper. Maybe the G has better micro-contrast and that is what you were seeing. Now for sports and wildlife, the G clearly focuses faster. G advantages: Faster focus, quiet, works on commodity cameras like the 520x series that don't have screw drive motors, and some other minor points. I consider the resolution about equal. All that having been said, I don't use either one for this focal range. For use on a tripod, I use the Sigma 50mm f1.4 Art lens and hand held I use the Tamron 45mm f1.8, which is stabilized. (The 55mm Carl Zeiss Distagon T* Otus f1.4 is better than the Sigma, but I can't justify the cost and it's manual focus which can sometimes be a small disadvantage). Why are we using the 50mm lens? Most often portraits, weddings or street photography. Maybe fashion or events. The Nikon 60mm f2.8 D micro lens is something else to think about in this focal range. It's not very fast for a fixed prime, but boy is it sharp, and also incredibly inexpensive. For weddings, useful for the crossed hands wearing rings traditional shot. I'm not really disagreeing with what you said, and the new lens might really seem a bit sharper due to contrast (I can't really see much difference, but I haven't tried test charts). For f mount shooters who are Nikon kind of guys, the Nikon AF-S 58mm f1.4G is also worthy of consideration in this general focal range.
I also recognize that the way an image compares to another is something of a personal choice. What I like may not jibe with what other people like. And what is important in a lens will also vary from person to person.

honestly, the 50D has the front element so deep inside it does not require a hood, at least not for shading. I use a Hoya filter in mine for protection

I have both the D and G. The G to me has a little less Chromatic aberrations than the D. Additionally I found the G transfers maybe a 1/3 stop more light than the D does. It is noticeable but not a deal breaker since that can be fixed in post if using the D version. I got my D version when I was on a budget. All my camera bodies have drive motors build in so it worked just fine. I picked up the G version later after seeing the slight increase in results over the D. I still use the D version and will not get rid of it. It is worth more to me as a lens than the sub $100 I would get for it. Thanks for the video.

Brother I have bought Nikon 50mm 1.8 AfD prime lense while focusing clock wise it's smooth but while turning focus ring anticlockwise it makes ticking sound is it normal... The sound is noticeable only when you hold the lense near to your ear

That was informative... however I am planning to go even further... up to say 1.4 D and 1.2 D... because these are bokehlicious..
the 1.2 is gonna be at tad bit more shallow.... but I guess the 1.4 is the best option.... what do you have to say to that?

sumit chaudhuri is there a f/1.2 that’s not manual focus?

@@LilioCamere Thank you for your reply (er...question 😀😂)
I got my answer in your question..😂.. 50mm 1.2 does not have autofocus... And due to the extreme shallow depth of field... manual focusing is very hard to get.....
So, I think, I should settle for 1.4D.... Can I control the aperture ring of the lens through the command dial of the camera (Nikon D7200), in addition to the auto focusing? Another question...Will the light meter.. histogram etc work with the D7200 + 50mm 1.4D combination? Please suggest...

sumit chaudhuri yes, the 7000 series should have autofocus drive screw to make the bad series lenses work

The 1.8g is much better as flaring is almost none existant. 1.8 d very week in flaring. I use 1.8g without lens hood as I dont want it to look big.
