You have a different way of trellising your grapevines. How cool is that that you build side walls for your grapevines while the root part is at the other side. Amazing tips and ideas. I water my grapevines growing in the pots 2x a day. You are right it can give others a source of food too.

Hello Mr. Tony! I had a Muscadine Grape that I inherited with my home purchase. It made tasty jelly and probably good wine but not a good eating grape. I did plant a seedless red grape by the front fence but it died. Now I know why. Very very high clay content. I would love to try again but too many irons in the fire right now to give it attention. Thank you as always for the videos. They are extremely helpful.

Hi Tony; good presentation, thank you.
I already have a grape vine that I'd planted about 35-years ago, which produces dark red / black seeded grapes for wine making & I make about 5 - 6 gallons of wine most years from it.
Could you recommend some varieties of Desert Seedless grapes suitable for the UK climate though please. I've recently erected a medium sized greenhouse & wish to purchase some cuttings or rooted vines to grow sweet edible seedless grapes in there.
    Thanks, regards, JohnnyK.

Hey Tony, I got a grape vine from a nursery to start this year. It has one trunk about the thickness of two pencils but about a couple inches above that it splits into two trunks the thickness of a pencil. They both were trained straight upwards and both end about a foot an a half up. I know I am supposed to have one trunk so I am wondering if I should just not do any trimming or pruning of one of the two trunks or other shoots growing until it’s grown a while and I can choose the best one. Is that right? Should I just let it grow and not touch it until the end of this growing season or should I prune it up before then? Any help would be great. Love your videos, keep them coming!

    • @simplifygardening

One is only about 12” long, with growth coming only from one spot about 7” up. Two are about two feet tall, with lots of leaves. One has two main branches, 12-15” tall. One has one branch about 18” y’all. Another cutting grew extensive roots but nothing at all is on it currently. I’m not seeing any sign of life. The cutting is woody and about 18” tall.

have you ever consideret that by using plastic containers, that are filled with chemical polution that it will have an affect on the organic vegestables. Very important to check that they have the symbol that shows that it can be used for food growing. Just a good adwice :-)

All my containers are food grade. but also I think people who worry about that also need to consider where they buy compost and seed starts from as all this comes in plastic bags too. I have some tests done and found no leeching on anything

I have a vine growing in a crack on the ground in front of my house...which I didn't plant. Left on my doorstep by a bird! I thought I'd take a cutting this coming fall and plant it elsewhere.

Haha dont spare the viewers feeling regarding his grape vine and pot combo Tony, pot shame his vine abusing ass 🤣🤣 excellent video and info as always I may well give this ago to train along my fence/shed/trellis. I've been conditioning a plot for some blueberries so i may extend it to give it the space seeing as I've got the compost, grit and conditioner already.

Thanks for the tips! I find your videos to be extremely informative and helpful. I got an allotment 3 weeks ago now that has a grape vine, raspberries, strawberries, and an apple tree. Is there anyway to know what type of grapes are growing prior to it fruiting by chance?

Not really i suspect they will be a desert grape but time will tell when u taste them. Wine grapes will be quite bitter

In many european countries, where grapes are commercially grown, it is illegal to plant out cuttings from vines, they must be grafted on a Phylloxera resistant rootstock, in germany where i live, the fine can go into the thousands, until 1968 you could even go to jail for it, if you caused an Phylloxera outbreak for example, i belive, similar laws are in place in france, the swiss and most likely many mediterranean countries.
