    Nickelodeon wanted to make SpongeBob a school student because they thought kids would like that more. However, Stephen Hillenburg's vision was that SpongeBob was an adult working at a restaurant. In the end, they compromised. They made SpongeBob attend Driving School, but had it play out more like a grade school than a real life Driving School.
    Another great school episode I recommend is Artist Unknown, which involves the self righteous Squidward teaching SpongeBob an art class.

      That makes total sense. It seems like the “boating school” is way more similar to a traditional public school. I imagine students would relate to that more. However, I know they branded it more as an adult education program, because SpongeBob is a “fry cook” and working adult, like you mentioned.
      I will take a look at the episode you recommended, thank you so much! 😎👍

      @@SchoolPrincipalReacts It's a funny episode. A good foil to this one where you see a good teacher, this other one shows the kind of teacher who is...less than idle and how badly that can affect students.

    The sticky stuff is called mounting putty. I wanna say that the original product name was mighty putty.
    My detention was pretty much the typical sitting around. Students could do whatever so long it was quiet, in the room, and not on an electronic device. And fun fact: I was only in detention cause my music teacher heard my brother talking and thought it was me.

      @@SchoolPrincipalReacts What's it like being a principal, what kind of work do you do, I always see them just standing around like a shepherd, or doing some sort of paperwork that I know nothing about, what do they even do?

    • @SchoolPrincipalReacts
      @SchoolPrincipalReacts  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It’s challenging and rewarding at the same time. It’s true that we do try and stand in the hallways while students are changing classes. Principals are responsible for everything that happens in a school, good or bad. They observe classes, evaluate teacher and other staff, making hiring decisions, oversee student discipline, manage budgets, and many other things. There’s a lot to it!
      Thanks for the question, and thanks for watching! 😎👍

      @@SchoolPrincipalReacts Hi. You mentioned overseeing discipline. I’ve wondered, if a student gets expelled from public school, would you ultimately make that decision or is there a process you have to follow in your role to get to a point where the decision to expel a pupil is reached? There was apparently one kid in my high school when I was a senior (and from the rumor mill, no, I do not believe they were in my class) who supposedly turned in a paper and was found to have plagiarized the whole thing. The teacher, I guess after recognizing the writing style was not that of the student who submitted the assignment, typed in the first sentence or two into Google and found what the student had given them. I never got a copy of the student handbook in a format I could actually read so was not fully aware of what would happen after such a serious and stupid thing anyone can do in that setting. That would be grounds for expulsion, correct? Never did find out what actually happened or who the person was.

    • @SchoolPrincipalReacts
      @SchoolPrincipalReacts  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, I would agree - the scraping sounds of chalk would be unnerving to most people now because they’re not used to it. In my case, chalkboards were common in elementary and middle school, but faded away after that. Most modern classrooms simply don’t have them and have moved to dry erase boards, smart boards, and interactive panels.

    Wonderful episode! I remember some teachers that would give out little pieces of candy for rewards. I would be just as excited for star stickers but the candy seemed to work with a lot more students. When you thought the little scraper for the stars was going to be used to whack SpongeBob, it made me think of that King of the Hill episode where Peggy uses that paddle on her students! I always wondered if schools actually used to do that. When I was in a private school, there wasn’t any physical punishment but a lot of times I would be made to stand in front of the class for the whole duration if I forgot my book. I never liked that style of punishment. Why make me stand when another student would have let me share her book? 😭 When I switched to public school that’s when I discovered detention is just sitting in a room with nothing to do and you can’t talk to anyone 😂

    • @SchoolPrincipalReacts
      @SchoolPrincipalReacts  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Some schools do still employ paddling/corporal punishment and some don’t. You tend to see it used in more rural areas. It is still legal on many places, but some schools just decide not to do it.

    Going to back to the detention part. At the high school I went to there was a pretty serious punishment called ISS (In Student Suspension). When you got that punishment you would have to come to the school on Saturday and sit at a desk for 8 hours and just sit there not doing anything. You would not be able to do homework, sleep, talk to other kids, or play with your electronic device. I would like to know your opinion about that.

    • @SchoolPrincipalReacts
      @SchoolPrincipalReacts  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi there!
      I think ISS is pretty common at high schools. There was a different high school I worked at as an administrator that had Saturday School. In real life, all of these are efforts by the school to correct behavior - we should never “punish” students, but correct bad behavior. Every consequence should just be an effort to do this. The reality is that how to do this effectively may vary from school to school, because each school is going to have different students with different needs.
      There are schools where having Saturday School could be effective at curtailing bad behavior, and some schools where it wouldn’t be effective at all. I will say that what you are describing is exactly how I’ve seen it done in the past! 😂
      Thanks so much for watching! 😎👍

    We had tons of fights in my 6-10th grades. Fights in the halls where some kids would gather around and chant and some would just push past annoyed to get to class. If it was girls fighting, blood and torn scalp would have to be cleaned up. Everyone would know when there would be a group fight after school, and a hundred or so kids would show up in the parking lot. They were treated kinda like violent flash mosh pits by plenty. It wasn’t a bad part of town, but upper-lower/lower-middle class. My schools also had cops physically chase kids down for drug busts, a few bomb threats, and metal detectors for the last couple weeks each year. (This was Plano, TX, a bit outside Dallas)

    It something I always think when I watching shows on tv or TH-cam. It might be unrealistic and not real but it can be somewhat related to real life that does make sense. Like things u not suppose to do in class or school and what you can do to do it right. Some shows can show meaning of friendship, romance, drama and fight how to deal with it. Sometimes you can learn from shows too. And something I always think when I watching cartoon is they always try to show us something to learn that we can learn for real life. Like how to handle yourself in school. How life can sometimes be tough but not impossible.

    I’ve never seen a detention room without a monitor in real life. Whenever a detention monitor leaves the room in movies, the detention students always cause a ruckus somehow. And the detention rooms I am used to forbade students to put any supplies on their desks (including papers), so they had no opportunity to do their homework or anything while in detention. Sleeping in detention could also cost them, even though their motives were clearly easy to decipher.
    I’ve also seen the detention rooms where students would be forced to write sentences on chalkboards over and over again in books, but I have a feeling those are highly uncommon nowadays.

    Well I’m from Mexico and over here we don’t have that kind of detention, the thing we had that was something similar was to stay in a classroon at recess, and that’s it.
    We had something we called “seguimiento” that literally would be translated to “following” but it was more like a “strike”, if you misbehaved you would receive a strike and if you got THREE STRIKES you would be suspended I think it was for a week, if you got suspended three times you were finally expelled. In the 13 years I studied in the same school I only got two strikes XD but got several notes for failing at exams and forgetting some homeworks.
    And I have to mention but here in Mexico is extremely rare that lockers and trophies shelves are located at the hallways, lockers are mostly inside classrooms and trophies sometimes are put at the principal’s office or in the library, and also is extremely rare that schools in Mexico have hallways.

      Hey!
      Thanks! I have had teacher friends from Mexico. The education systems from different countries are so different.
      I actually speak Spanish also. Some people want me to do my Dragon Ball Z reaction in Spanish. I know it is super popular there. What do you think?

      @@SchoolPrincipalReacts thanks professor for answering my comment.
      Yes our education systems are very different but I have to confess that I envy yours for I have friends from the USA and friends from Mexico that had studied in the USA and from what they told me it looks like your public education sustems is pretty good, well from my point of view, because in Mexico the public education is deficient, the books sometimes are not enough for each student, some professors are not prepared to teach a subject, some schools do not have labs, english is taught by professors who can barely pronounce pencil and sometimes students live so far from their schools that they miss it and parents work all day that they don’t even have time to go pick them up for we don’t have bus service from school and is damn dangerous for kids nowadays to walk by themselves.
      OH IT’S GREAT YOU CAN SPEAK SPANISH TOO!
      Esta muy chido, I’m gonna write in spanish now: SI! Deberias hacer una video reaccion del doblaje de Dragon Ball Z en latino, es una serie muy popular en Latinoamerica y que para muchos de mi generacion formo parte de niestra infancia y sus actores de doblaje son como estrellas para nosotros, te puedo recomendar que si decides hacer el video, inicies con la escena de Goku transformandose en SSJ por primera vez o cuando Gohan estalla en ira y se convierte en SSJ2 pero en este ultimo te recomiendo que veas la version SIN LA CANCION, que originalmente se transmition en latinoamerica así en los 90s.
      Ah y un dato sobre el doblaje si haz visto la serie en Inglés, notarás a veces que en Latino los gritos no son tan potentes, esto porque en México usaron de base el guión en japonés y la serie también en japonés como base para el doblaje y trataron de apegarse lo más posible al idioma original.
      Have a nice day Professor! :)

    Crowds of students may not chant “Fight! Fight! Fight!” over and over again out of nowhere when an argument happens, but they can kind of exacerbate a situation if memory serves. I remember one girl in my class ended up having a baby during her school term and another girl was giving her grief over it. I couldn’t say for sure whether or not it would have escalated into a fight on it’s own, but the crowd jeering after every insult probably didn’t do anything to simmer things down.

    I think school removed chalk board for a very good reason XD Noone loves a screetch from a chalk board also its always a irritating sound by calks but also when the rubber gets too much dust someone has to dust them off and that dust can be seriously toxic or bad for the lungs. idk if teacher did dust them by clapping two against each others but yeah. Also the rubber didnt clean the chalkboard really good u have to use water for it.

      I agree - it made a mess and made unpleasant sounds. These days most people use a dry erase board or smartboard.
